as well as what other people have mentioned it's good to see the stalin, shonen knife, jun togawa & YMO in the list, although YMO is obvious, and that happy end album is dull as ditchwater.

I've never heard of The Stalin but a name like that deserves a look.

No Boris?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I could be wrong, but I've always been under the impression that Cornelius is a huge star in Japan, so that wouldn't make it odd at all. Especially not as it's Rolling Stone who compiled it.

One Shonen Knife album on there and it's NOT "Pretty Little Baka Guy/Live in Japan". No, I don't approve.

Everyneurotic 05.05.2008 07:55 PM

i actually find it very fascinating that shonen knife are even in the list, the more i think about it; considering they used to hide their names so no one knew who they were in order to keep their jobs.

atsonicpark 05.06.2008 12:43 AM

Meh. THere's some good bands on there.

Dir En Grey :(

You're not wrong at all, I was thinking about that myself and remembered that Cornelius IS a big star in Japan. Boredoms are popular enough to merit a higher ranking, though. I have to say that every single Japanese person I have known in my life loathes Boredoms. I'm kind of puzzled and pleased at how The Jacks have been ranked.

Yep, that's another odd choice.

Not suprised at the Guitar Wolf entry, but suprised at the one for Friction. Wasn't Reck (ex-Teenage Jesus) in them at one point? Shame that High Rise weren't in there, but whaddya gonna do?

atsonicpark 05.06.2008 06:58 AM

I have a Japanese friend who likes boredoms :)

Toxa 05.06.2008 07:46 AM

10. Cornelius『ファンタズマ』(Fantasma) / 1997 (#9)

that's my number 1.

No acid mothers temple, no boris, no les rallizes denudes, no mono....hmmmm

one of the people in friction had some involvement in the no wave scene, but i don't know his name.

Everyneurotic 05.06.2008 11:07 AM

the cornelius stuff i've heard so far is very awful.

pokkeherrie 05.06.2008 11:45 AM

Again, the Shonen Knife choice seems less odd to me if you consider that it was their major label debut (let's say it was their "Goo") and the one that maybe lifted them to a somewhat larger audience.... it's Rolling Stone Japan.

But of course Jenn is right in her choice.

@ no. 4

putting any one merzbow album a best records ever list seems a bit arbitrary

Everyneurotic 05.06.2008 03:02 PM

correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't hijokaidan very notorious/infamous in japan? i mean, i have this idea that they are like gg allin for the japanese.
