yeah but you can't really compare the two decades since all the members of those bands got older and started non straight foward punk bands. but yeah you got a point. i just think of it as a new era for dischord because it's impossible to compare any of the great early harDCore bands with some of the great 90's bands (the only 4 for me that can compare with the hardcore bands are fugazi, nou, the make-up and slant 6). i also hate how people compare fugazi (and the evens) with the members past bands. not everyone wants to make straight foward hardcore for their whole lives. i bet if fugazi sounded like rites of spring or minor threat part two it would be horrible. also, can you imagine ian mackaye fronting minor threat at 46? |
i love fugazi. im with you there.
|
i don't get the same feeling, but to put you an example; when i listen to the bad seeds i feel like something terribly big is lacking and makes me want to listen to the birthday party really bad. same with iggy, it just makes me want to listen to the stooges.
it's not a way to compare, it's because of the quality of the material mostly. fugazi don't really make me run and reach for complete discography or end on end, but i don't really like listening to them a lot, whether i could listen to rites and minor threat for hours on end. i do agree that it would suck if fugazi was half the songs like second rate minor threat and the other half like second rate rites, that they shouldn't play straight hardcore for the rest of their lives and that minor threat shouldn't have stayed together. i shudder at the thought of a minor threat reunion, they could have pull it off well about ten years ago but not now, i'm afraid. |
NoU, Make-Up, One Last Wish, Black Eyes, Rites of Spring, El Guapo, Happy Go Licky, Q and Not U, Bluetip...

yeah i don't think they would ever have a reunion. ian doesn't seem much into reunions. even though i can see fugazi maybe playing a show together again. but i guess that's why they said they didn't officially break up so they can do that without it being a reunion. |

i'm gonna respectfully disagree with you about Hoover, they are up there with Nation of Ulysses, Fugazi and Rites of Spring for me. I absolutely love them, although I didn't know they were on Dischord...pretty cool. |
yeh. I shamefully forgot to add Hoover to my list.

Then you probably shouldn't have included Nation of Ulysses either! |

yeah i didn't know they were that popular here. |
Yes, the Ulysses appreciation seems sudden. Seems like everyone kept quite about them on here until a year ago, now they're one of Sonic Gossips most mentioned bands.
|
The Make-Up are the only band listed I could listen to.
|
nation of ulysses, more style than substance.
to use a word i hate, they are overrated. |

true, the only one i think comes close is circus lupus for me.
jawbox too, although i do have to say there's some deal of myself in trying to like it. still enjoyable to me. |
Jawbox is one of the only Dischord bands I could say I have absolutely no time for.
|
most dischord bands are just boring. Ulysses is overrated as hell. Good lyrics though...
Like I said, Faraquet is easily the best band on that poll... they're probably the only one that gets my balls excited anymore. |
uh-oh. the tides are changing. A wave of Dischord hate is on its way.
|
i bet the next five posts will be how much dishcord sucks.
|
lots of things are boring and uninteresting -- that doesn't mean they SUCK.
For examples, the Mars Volta? They SUCK. Autoclave and Bluetip? Good bands, just you know.. nothing I'd ever want to listen to. |
i was hoping somone would vote for autoclave.
