Long live rock. |
No seriously, there are a ton of music gods but rock & roll is dead. That and music has diversified to the point of complete super-stardom becoming almost impossible. Thom Yorke is the new Mick Jagger. Sorry, world.
I'm sure my grandfather was upset when Mick Jagger was the new Benny Goodman. |
Kurt Cobain killed the Rock God concept, Killed hair metal, changed the direction of what a "Rock Star" is, then killed himself. God bless him.
I hate rock gods |
I don't think about this too much so I can't make a serious contribution.
But I did idolize Keith Richards from 1971 to 1978. Obsessively. |
Meet the new Keith Richards.

He doesn't have any hair. He can't be the new Keef.
|
Dammit acoustic... I already said that on page 1. Stop biting my style.

Oh shit, you're right.

He was good at that. He qualifies, but he's not modern. His irony makes it so. I think even Billy Corgan qualifies. |
Billy Corgan qualified 10 years ago.

What I meant by that, is that in my opinion Kurt was the last Rock God. Bollocks on Billy Corgan though, he gets under my skin sometimes.
although 1979 is a great song. |
I kissed them all, and they ran away and cried.
No, that's a lie. I TRIED to kiss them, and they've all put out restraining orders on me. |
Not much has changed really. The same people that once wrote 'Clapton is God' on a wall now have children that start threads in celebration of Lee Ranaldo. Which personally I don't see a problem with.

Would Ned Hayden count as a rock god?
Rock Gods du jour - Eyehategod (for the win). |
