No idea where you'd find a download link, but I heartily recommend you pick this up, if you're looking for Die Like a Dog stuff. For what it is, it's OK value, and the music is amazing. |

The only album of hers that I've heard is 'Ptah, the el daoud'.

Yeah, "Journey in Satchidananda" is THE one, among what I've heard. Sanders kills on it. Cecil McBee is unbelievably sweet. Just an amazing album. Closest thing would in many ways be Sanders' "Karma", but it's pretty unique.

I fixed the link on 'Little Birds have fast Hearts'.

You should have something by Other Dimensions in Music or if you want to rock hard get some Test.
just a few contemporary NYC players you really should know David S Ware Matthew Shipp Jameel Moondoc Ras MOshe Steve Swell Roy Campbell Sabir Mateen and the great William Parker no doubt in 20 years when I'm really old i'll brag about seeing Text of Light, Black Flag, Van Halen in 81 and gigs with William Parker. |
William Parker is truly a god. I saw him play a solo set in a room of like 40 people crowded around him, sitting baout 10 feet away, and it was one of the most truly stunning musical moments of my life. Pretty much the most affecting musical performance I've attended. Changed my whole view of what one person could do with an instrument and the attention of a willing audience. I still get chills thinking about it, 2 years later.

Speaking of which, anyone who is into free jazz and doesn't have Parker's "Through Acceptance of the Mystery Peace" needs to get it now.
In fact, I may upload that tonight. I think I only have it as shitty WMA files though, and seem to remember a scratch messsing things up on my CD. Will have to check... Oh and for more Parker goodness, I suggest that recent reissue of "The Multiplication Table" by the Matthew Shipp Trio. It's a monster. |
Well, due to a series of technical difficulties, this took me an absurdly long time to get off the CD in a lossless form and upload it, but her e we are:
Kaoru Abe - Winter 1972 (PSF 158) ![]() Early solo album. Now, I know a whole album of very out solo free-jazz alto-sax might sound pretty tough, but this is actually a stunningly beautiful work, and you need to listen to it. Now. There are these sections where he's audibly playing off the echoes of the room that get me every time. Being PSF, it's just a direct rip of the original vinyl issue, as with some of the Fushitsusha releases ETC, but that lends it an interesting quality. Tracks all untitled. I will try and get on the Parker at some point this week, but I need to listen through and check whether I was imagining my disc being screwed up first. FLAC, hence the monster file sizes. In retrospect it would probably have been wiser to torrent it. Ah well. Enjoy! |
