Did you know he came up with the song title "I Don't Know What It Is But I Love It" when having a particularly satisfactory dump eh?

ihateyouth 10.20.2008 05:37 PM

They were my favorite band until Get Behind Me Satan.

After that I just wanted to kill myself.

I still listen to "I Fought Piranhas" and De Stijl once in a while.

I love their debut (blues with a punky edge, so many good riffs!) and De Stijl (Beatles-y). After those they just seemed too exposed - I'm going to find it difficult to listen to those albums after the James Bond theme - and Jack White is too gimmicky whatever he does (i.e., that shitty Led Zepplin-tribute band he's in), and has a whimsical, vaudeville-side that rubs me the wrong way... but their debut is awesome and I like the version of Jack The Ripper they do in concert.

Decayed Rhapsody 10.20.2008 08:09 PM

I like some of their stuff. Jack's alright.

Green Magnesium 10.20.2008 11:18 PM

They've always had catchy singles but I've still always wanted to hate them because Jack White seems like such a fucking dildo...

However, I recently got a hold of the vinyl version of ICKY THUMP (for free) and really love the album, with the exception of maybe 3 songs. I'm considering checking out past work now (not SATAN though, because it seems to be universally bashed).

ALIEN ANAL 10.21.2008 02:25 AM

yeh i enjoy them
have a good time listening to them

damn now i get -2 indie points

finding nobody 10.21.2008 02:38 AM

I like everything they've done. First LP is my favorite.

Death & the Maiden 10.21.2008 03:17 AM

I don't mind them, but I don't have any of their albums. I remember when I went to a music store and I had a spare $10, and I was looking at albums by The White Stripes, Kaiser Chiefs, and some others, but I eventually got The Strokes' Is This It? That's the closest I've come to getting an album of theirs.

[Sandbag] 10.21.2008 06:04 AM

i personally can't get into their music. but i think they're fine...

atsonicpark 10.21.2008 06:07 AM

meh

atsonicpark 10.21.2008 06:10 AM

That's totally not meg white in the sex video. THe chick on the tape actually has rhythm.

Dead-Air 10.21.2008 06:17 AM

When they got famous it was certainly weird because there were dozens of indie bands who sounded similar, but somehow they had the lucky lottery numbers. I've always found them fairly o.k., but couldn't figure out what the fuss was over. Still, I'd rather have them be the famous alternative band than Jesus Jones or the aforementioned Offspring. Doesn't make me buy their records though.

lechaoscestmoi 10.21.2008 06:17 AM

rather listen to shellac.
