Someone else overheard us and said that you just bury it in your garden, but then their friend got involved and said that you're not allowed to bury it - something to do with a new law after the foot-and-mouth-crisis. I wasn't sure about this, but I did wonder what someone who lived in a flat would do - they can't bury it anywhere, anyway. Surely you don't put a dead dog in the bin?

Can anyone on here solve this mystery for me/us? I'm from the UK but I'd be interested to see if there are cultural variations.

Laws vary based on your locality, municipality.

I've been through about 5 dog deaths in my life so far. They've happened when the dogs got seriously ill from old age and I chose to "put them down," as they say. The vet took care of the body disposals.

Then you basically go home and cry for about a week.

my dog is only 2 years old, and i dont want to even think about her dying. But, I think when it does actually happen, Im gonna get her stuffed in a weird position and keep her around the house.

But i think it depends on the dog. Some of these teacup pieces of shit can just be put into a blender or garbage disposal. Plus, theres always gasoline. And lest we forget, any decent sized body of water.

Be utterly confused that I had a dog all along and never knew it.

My friend's gay uncle and his partner run a cremation service (Six Feet Under status) and apparently they do pet cremations because otherwise they the vet just burns a bunch of dead animals together and divides the ashes evenly.

In another related story, my friends 4 month old dog was acting out of character. Rather than being extremely hyper and jumpy, he was calm and he hardly moved, we were all like "Oh it just needs rest, it'll be fine, because he isn't acting sick, just tired." Later that night she got a call and apparently he stopped moving all together and threw up a bunch. They took it to the vet where it died. Apparently it found some moldy food and ate it. SAD, RIGHT?

I really wanted my dog to die at home but it was not to be. I was OK when I left the vet's office but a couple hours later I cried really hard; very cathartic. I only cried once more about a month later.

I'm actually a bit surprised at how easy it was. But she was ill for some time so I was able to spend a lot of time with her and felt really good about it. Plus it was really obvious when to put her down--no wondering if I waited too long or did it too soon.

Then I waited about 4 months and got another one! I treasure my memories of Su and am having fun creating new memories with Ava.

You put contact mics inside of its body and use it as a noise instrument.
