I'm quite fond of "Everybody's Got Something to Hide..." by The Feelies and "Dear Prudence" by the Banshees.

Motley Crue did a devastatingly inane version of Helter Skelter with the dulcet tones of Vince Neil, on the shout at the devil record I think.

The Fall's version of A day In The Life is fucking awesome.

johnnywinternoshow 01.05.2009 05:59 PM

Actually, it's by Sonic Youth with a Lee vocal. It was on the Sgt. Pepper Knew My Father compilation, which was one of the very first "alernative bands doing tribute versions of classic rock albums" ever, establishing a longstanding tradition of Sonic Youth's to be on as many of them as possible.

Some of my favorite Beatles covers:

"Day Tripper" by Sergio Mendez and Brasil 66

All of the "Mother Nature's Son" album by Ramsey Lewis, but especially the wacked out version of "Everybody's Got Something to Hide (Except for Me and My Monkey)"

"We Can Work It Out" by Stevie Wonder

"Cry Baby Cry" by Bardo Pond

"Wild Honey Pie" by Das Damen

"Flying" by the Residents

"Flying" by Shockabilly

"Within Your Withoutsides" by Pork Queen (only sort of a cover, but a cool variation regardless).

"I'm a Loser" by Eugene Chadbourne

"Every Little Thing She Does" by Yes (from the 1st, pre-Steve Howe album)

"The Long and Winding Road" by Aretha Franklin

"Come Together" by Ike and Tina Turner

"Rain" by Bongwater

"Day Tripper" and "Tomorrow Never Knows" by Jimi Hendrix

"Across the Universe" by Laibach

"Help!" and "Ticket to Ride" by the Carpenters

"Help!" by the Damned

"Help!" by Jose Feliciano

"Here There and Everywhere" by Perry Como (yeah it's horrible, but enjoyably so)

"Helter Skelter" by Motley Crue (see Perry Como)

"Eleanor Rigby" by Ray Charles

"Something" by Jim Fucking Nabors

"Get Back" by Enoch Light an the Light Brigade

"Helter Skelter" by Siouxsie and the Banshees

Phish did the entire White Album as a Halloween "costume"

noisereductions 01.06.2009 03:35 PM

^that is true.

DeadDiscoDildo 01.06.2009 04:06 PM

There's lots of stuff on your list that I like. But this one in particular is one of my favorites.

Yeah, I'm not that big on their "Dear Prudence". It's o.k., but I like the edginess of "Helter Skelter" way more.
