yes i remember people saying that back when it came out... it's bullshit people hearing hiss and filling it in with what they want to hear. Like backwards masking |
except that it's forwards and actually there.
|
No new info really, except i think these are actually gonna happen in the next few months!!
http://www.originalrecordingsgroup.c...RG_Catalog.htm Unfortunately, it looks like there's no kill yr idols on this CiS reissue apparently... |

I wish they hadn't decided to stick Master-Dik at the end of the Sister vinyl reissue. Even in comparison with other 'bonus' tracks, that one doesn't fit at all with the album's overall feel. At least with a CD you can programme it out but with an LP you're gonna have to leap up and remove the needle just after White Cross finishes. They ought to just reissue the Master-Dik EP as is, which I quite like largely in spite of its title track. |
Rumor is additional tapes of Sister recording sessions exist, Thurston used a set ofg masters from Sister as a half witted/joke technique of getting EJST&NS to sound more lo-fi and akin to the bands they admired at that time (i.e. Sebadoh and Pavement).

I don't believe for a second that they really recorded over the master-tape of Sister, however: even if it were true, it raises the question of what was recorded over. The multi-track tape or the final stereo master? Two different tapes, y'see...
They would've had to have used 2" tape (presumably) for the tracking of Electric Jet Set..., leading one to think they would've had to have used the original Sister MULTI-TRACK tape, not the final stereo mixdown tape anyway. Which means it would be simple to remaster the album, the mixdown tape would still be untouched. It all kinda proves that the whole thing is a long-running gag, nothing more. It doesn't add up. PS: Even if you CAN hear it between tracks of Electric Jet Set..., and I've never tried, there are ENDLESS of ways to do that rather than recording over the previous tape... |
Steve's already posted to confirm they did not record over the master tapes of Sister.

Weird that they added the bonus tracks to the vinyl (particularly the 4 on "Bad Moon"!) and while I do agree with your basic point, keep in mind that Master=Dik is built off of samples from 'Stereo Sanctity' so it at least has some thematic ties to the album. Probably belongs more on a Whitey Album reissue though. That said, these vinyl reissues look kind of intriguing! I have all of these albums on vinyl but would certainly entertain picking up new copies if they're deemed to be outstanding pressings, and in a way the bonus tracks kiiiind of increase the appeal...though I do respect the idea of the 'original album' being preserved. |

Yes. Check the ORG page to see the reissue info and release dates. wwwdotoriginalrecordingsgroupdotcom page 3 of catalogue releases |
Yechh, Bubblegum at the end of EVOL? Guess there's no lockgroove at the end of Expressway then. These will have to either be really damn nice or really damn cheap for me.

absolutely. it just feels so out of place on Sister. As much as I'd rather the extras had been left off the BMR reissue at least they kind of flow with the original album. |

i think hotwire my heart fits in much less and it's part of the actual album |
even if the records were not remastered, i would still love to hear deluxe reissues just for the awesome songs that were left off them. I'd definitely pay to hear them. money.
|
one of the few times - out of anybody's discography - where the tacked-on bonus tracks don't "disrupt the flow" is on the reissue of confusion is sex. goes really well with kill yr idols.
not that i hate bonus tracks at all, just sometimes they sound ... well ... bonus. like "bubblegum" all on its lonesome on EVOL. |

Good point. Any chance these are just incorrect preliminary tracklistings? And yeah, "Hotwire My Heart" sucks. I've grown to..eh..appreciate its spirit, but it's a real stain on an otherwise flawless album. |
whoah... i found originals of all these a few months ago for $30 a piece, and was wondering if they were gonna reissue them soon. not sure if i'll buy these or not. i'm looking forward to some archival releases of vintage SY sound from cassette Lee hinted at recently...
reissue WALLS HAVE EARS!!! also, coltrane at village vanguard should be in everybody's crate. no excuses now... also, do they mean this winter, or like, next winter... |
Outtakes or jams from those three albums would be great. I generally don't care for the extra material for many bands' reissues, but these three I am totally convinced must have produced a wealth of high quality material that didn't make it to the albums.
|
why they tacked on the shitty(er) B-sides on every reissue EXCEPT confusion is beyond me. I want kill yr idols on vinyl!
|
If the catholic block demo is any indication of what is in the vault for a sister RI, I'm extremely excited.
