I'm in with Porkie on this one. There's a nice wide mix he's put there. Interestingly, no sign of the Shaggs or The Fall, but surely everyone knows them by now?
Also: Kenicke, Avril Lavigne, The Master Musicians of Joujouka, Les Rallizes Denudes, The Boundus Boys and Nurse With Wound... and a million others. What was the point of this thread again? Was it something about getting excited about records that are good? |

sorry to correct you, but it's just
Sex Pistols & they take a lot of shit on this board, but they KILL (in the case of Sid & Nancy, literally even) & even with limited output, they are better than PiL (which are good too) of course you know where punk all really started, right? Maybe you do if you caught a post I made the other day. Punk fucking started with "All Day & All of the Night" by The Kinks way back in 1964 when Ray & Dave Davies came up with that uptempo barre progression & Dave sliced his amp speaker with a razor & pieced it back together with pins & tape to achieve previously unheard of distortion. Of course, there were elements of punk already brewing pre-'64 in rockabilly, garage & other styles, but that song is really the catalyst for it all probably more than any other single piece of music. Oh, that little tidbit didn't make it into any VH-1 shows or to wikipedia? Such a pity. Well, you read it here first. you're just trying to bait people with shit like this, right? Quote:
I can go right down everyone's lists & it's crap shit dung waste excrement load pile turd Avril Lavigne? The only other "rock" act in recent memory that is worse than this person is Fall Out Boy... really... I mean how does one even summon the nerve to perform if you're in Fall Out Boy? It makes no sense. They are beyond horrible. 9 out of 10 people making music in their garage have more talent to be developed than fucking Fall Out Boy who are successful artists. |

Sorry, I shouldn't really pick this sore. BUT - surely you see that you could be hoisted by your own petard with that statement? I'm not saying that's necessarily what you're doing, but that is an exceptionally dangerous statement to make if you want to give your side of the (non-)'argument' any gravitas, surely? I personally think Hank Williams is better and more important than Robert Johnson, but again, no biggie. |

If porkmarras can mention Vashti Bunyan then, by God, I can mention
Kate Bush and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts which both came out with new ones recently & blows Vashti Bunyan out of the water any day of the week. Out of all the ones porkmarras listed (20 or so) Frank Sinatra, Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Bedhead & Masonna are the only ones that deserve any notice. And so what?Would that mean that you have more passion for music than i have?I don't think so atari. It just means that even though i like Robert Johnson,i simply shy away from patronizing people with the reminder that he's been an exceptional musician.Put it this way,i give anyone enough credit to assume that they certainly know who he is without me bangin' on about him.And besides,Mojo magazine is available either online or from your local newsagent(figuratively). |

I can comprehend your posts enough to remember your constant reminders that you have an IQ over 130 (because no one with an IQ under that level should smoke pot, according to your standards), and that you used to be involved with Amber Valentine. Oh, and the difficult family relations. I am pretty sure I have read other people posting love for the Kinks as well. Going back to read your extensive edits is something some of us might forget to do sometimes though... |
