Otherwise the Improvised Music from Japan website (http://www.japanimprov.com/schedule/index.html) is a good resource, but only if you're into that kind of improv. It's obviously mainly focused on Kanto and Kansai, but some other areas come up from time to time. Otherwise it's not particularly easy. Searching for live houses on google can do some good. For example a google search for 秋田(あきた) ライブハウス yielded this:http://www.cna.ne.jp/~swindle-/schedule.htm and this http://www.jazzcatwalk.net/. You may find something you like from time to time. You're not that far from Hirosaki in Aomori, right? There are some awesome Izakayas there where they play Tsugaru shamisen while you eat and drink. It's definitely a worthwhile experience.
