Ah yes, I knew there was going to be a point when infinitemusic would become an internet prick.

It is the second great equalizer.

infinitemusic 09.27.2009 06:38 PM

Hey! Everyone is a prick sometimes. Especially me

pbradley 09.27.2009 07:18 PM

Yes, you can feel the power of the dark side surging through you. Embrace your prickishness and join SYG and together we shall circle jerk our pricks forever!

Yeah, Radiohead are amazing. That said, I am biased due to the fact that I was totally OBSESSED with them aged like 15, and as such have a great deal of good old judgment blurring nostalgia attached to all their pre-In Rainbows records, but I still think they're fantastic by any standard.

The live version of In Limbo from the same concert as that Talk Show Host is unbelievable!

alteredcourse 09.27.2009 08:52 PM

I'm not sure I can listen to this right now, I'm not drunk enough.

Just too emotional, holds too much painful memory.

Even if the segments in time I'm reminded of arent negative or painful themselves, they were in fact apart of a period of the most growth for me, and its just that somehow their vibe throws this certain long deep shadow over everything. The only things that are illuminated are the failures and the losses. It's always about the past. I dont like being fixated on the past, it's a dangerous thing.

Edit, haha sorry SuchFriends, I think I show up and repeat myself to that effect every time you make a Radiohead thread. It's just that it really does effect me that much. I doubt you blame me.

Also, yeah that In Limbo performance is great.
This one and that one kill me.
This one fucks my corpse.

thats because you people are like musical perverts, if the band doesn't stick things up your ass at the same time you can't get off ;)

_slavo_ 09.29.2009 02:31 AM

y'know suchfriends, let me put it this way.
I used to be a massive Radiohead fan some 11-12 years ago (The Bends era) and I totally loved them to death. The internet era was in its beginnings so I kept swapping xeroxed fan materials, zines etc with pals from across the world, traded tape bootlegs etc etc. There was nothing more exciting for me in the music world than Radiohead (which was a shame because I had absolutely no idea that there was any Sonic Youth and the like).
But about a month ago I went to their gig in Prague, stood there, listened and the music just did nothing for me... the thrill and excitement just wasn't there. It was just an interesting band playing interesting tunes, but, to be theatrical, there's just no soul in them for me anymore. I know it might be because I'm getting older, but that's just one of the reasons why some people might see them as 'boring'.

That clip you posted was very good though.

atsonicpark 09.29.2009 03:43 AM

Right on, slavo. This band ruled me in middle school/early high school. I do genuinely think they've gotten worse, though, in general... because I still put on Kid A and while it doesn't excite me, I can still recognize it as awesome.

yeah, that why I mentioned that only after I said THEY were great...

anyway, for a "big" band with big stage and good budget the whole show setup is important imo. See NIN. amazing. It's all part of the performance, and makes it better than listening with closed eyes. Making a great live better is a good thing in my book.

atsonicpark 09.29.2009 04:22 AM

"See NIN"?

No thanks.

:)

nicfit 09.29.2009 04:30 AM

Ever seen footage from their latest tours?

atsonicpark 09.29.2009 04:35 AM

You think it's something real, you think it's something true?

...A good acquaintance of mine saw them live on their last tour there and said it was mindblowing and I heard all about it.. still, if the music is intolerable, I don't care. Hah.

nicfit 09.29.2009 04:57 AM

Yeah, I don't listen to them either, mine was an example of a band who put on a really great show based not only on their music.
That's part of the live experience, and it adds to the music instead of diminishing its importance. amen allelujahveh.

atsonicpark 09.29.2009 05:18 AM

Yeah, I guess now that you mention it, I've seen some truely awful noise bands who put on a good show. So, yeah.

radiohead? i finally got to see them perform on their last tour, it was pure magic, I danced all around the hollywood bowl, had ecstatic joy, and generally had my mind blown. these dudes are definitely at the top of their game, and in rainbows is definitely a live album.

The funny thing is, that's totally not true. I don't just like insane noisy shit, I also like some stuff that would be even mellower than Radiohead, and in that case, I prefer sad stuff like Radiohead specializes in. But Radiohead doesn't do anything for me. AT ALL
