Rugrats was just the best show ever. Period.

Satan 11.25.2009 10:37 PM

are you afraid of the dark was my SHIT.

the tv never left nickelodeon.

Count Mecha 11.25.2009 11:38 PM

What I really like about a good amount of those old Nickelodeon shows is that even having watched them as a kid and effectively stopped watching them for about a decade and then watching them again as an adult, they're still good shows. It's not like some nostalgia thing where you have nice memories of it as a kid but can't really watch it now because they actually aren't that good, like Franklin or something. Pete and Pete might be even better now as an adult.

Kids show writers were alot more respectful to the younger crowd then. They didn't treat em like dumbshits.

I personally think Spongebob killed Nick. Which is weird to say, since I don't 100% hate Spongebob, it's actually quite brilliant at times (there's a Julien Donkey Boy reference in an episode... Patrick spraying Spongebob with a water hose and saying "QUIT YOUR MOODY BROODING!" I mean, a JULIE DONKEY FUCKING BOY REFERENCE ON A KID'S SHOW!), but the more annoying cutesy mass-market bullshit is what really probably gets to people, and has made it a mainstream hit and Nick suddenly changed after that quite dramatically. Bring back Wild and Crazy Kids, Welcome Freshman, Roundhouse, hell even bring back Keenan and Kel..

Derek 11.26.2009 12:33 PM

Kenan and Kel ruled with the Coolio theme tune and stuff.

EVOLghost 11.26.2009 12:37 PM

I didn't watch Nickelodeon. I was always on CN.

I spent time equally on both. Cartoon Network had some awesome shows too... Dexter's Laboratory was fantastic and still is a blast to watch today.

EVOLghost 11.26.2009 01:29 PM

Cartoon cartoon was enough for me.

Derek 11.26.2009 02:09 PM

I liked the cartoons on CN, especially Cow and Chicken. But I don't think they are cartoons I could watch nowadays and be entertained.

Whenever I catch an episode of Dexter's Lab, the only thing I'm thinking is, "Oh jeez! I remember this so well!"

Count Mecha 11.26.2009 02:44 PM

Some of those Cartoon Cartoons were pretty good. Dexter probably being the best of them. But CN's real strength was in it's back catalog of Hanna-Barbera, Warner Bros., and MGM cartoons. Tom and Jerry, Herculoids, Space Ghost, Barney Bear and a bunch of those other bizzaro one off cartoons from like the 30's to the 40's. Top Cat, Quick Draw, Yogi Bear. Now, since alot of that back catalog is played on Boomerang CN is largely worthless anymore. They still manage to play Tom and Jerry though. Though that's all considering whether or not you're an Adult Swim fan, which I am not.

Ah, almost forgot Toonami, that was pretty good too.

Derek 11.26.2009 02:55 PM

Fucking hell, I forgot all about Toonami. Great shit.

Count Mecha 11.26.2009 02:58 PM

It really was. I remember being 12 and staying up to see those uncut Midnight Run's of Gundam Wing where they said 'damn' instead of 'blast' and thought "yeah, this is hardcore."

Keeping It Simple 11.26.2009 04:45 PM

Tiswas is the best kids tv show simply for having bands like The Who on it.

I saw a clip of clarrisa on youtube when searching for are you afraid of the dark, I havent watched a full episode yet. I remember thinking she was cute when I was a kid because she liked the same music (on the show, talked about nirvana) but I just realized my ex gf is a dead ringer for her too....

Never put it together,

blonde, more adorable than straight out hot, and wore the craziest, miss-matched clothes...

That and now the ones that aren't blatant about it are trying to sell some kind of materialism. Dumbing someone down is the easiest way to get them to mindlessly consume shit they don't need. I know there were shows like that back then, but they were more the cheapo Sunday morning cartoons.

I think there are still some good kiddie shows, but I feel sad for kids now. I mean, just look at Rocko. It was so bizarre and surreal, it really expanded my imagination as a child. Where can kids get that now?

I hate Chowder, but you're right, Flapjack is pretty awesome. Whenever I accidentally flip to cartoon network and it's on, I watch it. I need to watch that channel more :D, but I always forget about it.

Youth_Against_Facism 11.30.2009 05:45 AM

Kenan & Kel!!!!!!!!!!!!

yr 12.01.2009 04:35 PM

I'm surprised nobody has spoke of all that. That show (before all the cast changes)was really funny

Jeremy 12.01.2009 05:57 PM

All That has actually held up surprisingly well, the early years at least. When they started to add all these new people it took a major turn for the worse.
