i don't really "play dumb" in front of people about these sort of things, but i sometimes suppress my opinions on shit like music just to get along with people and not seem like an outright cunt. it just isn't important that people irl know what i really think of dream theater.

You know, I try to find the good in anything.. even if it's some ultra shitty pop garbage, I can usually walk away from it and go, "Oh, well there's a cool bassline" or some shit... makes life a lot more tolerable...

Of course, there are a few bands where I can't hear ANYTHING to like, like most of the Mars Volta's output. It just seems like an almost violent attempt to pile on as many sounds that don't sound good as possible.

If I think something is terrible/is shite/atrocious I won't say as such un;ess I'm close friends with the person because who knows, their feelings might get hurt and there's no reason to do that in a friendly conversation..... although my wife thinks 90% of what I listen to is garbage and it doesn't bother me......

But I wouldn't pretend I hadn't heard of something to avoid being thought of as "too smart"....... I work with mostly 60 year olds and a bunch of doctors and if music ever comes up I just say I like Deep Purple (which I really fucking do they are the best band next to Black Sabbath if you want my opinion on such things)........
