led zep - physical graffitti.
it has some cool shit |
yes it does.
why are people so hellbent on hating zeppelin? it seems like it's trendy to hate them these days, particularly amongst folk of this board. |
amon duul ii - made in germany

Those aren't double albums, they're just long. That doesn't count. |

Well, I know "Lateralus" is a double LP, 'cuz it's in my collection, but IDK about "Aenima". & I'm pretty sure they haven't even come out w/ "10,000 Days" vinyl yet. |

Yes, but I think what GeneticKiss is trying to say is that it's a double record only because vinyl is more restricting than compact disc. It's not 2 records because that is how the album is intended to be heard, like Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, Doubt Seeds, etc etc. Ps - Zeppelin are great. |
^: I read ya'. Some albums are suppose to have that seperation, & some are not.

Tell me about it! Pink Floyd - Ummagumma |
here's some good ones too:
minutemen - double nickels on the dime sun city girls - 330.003 crossdressers from beyond the rig veda sun city girls - dante's disneyland inferno acid mothers temple - absolutely freak out (zap your mind!!) caroliner - rings on the awkward shadow sunroof! - bliss P.I.L. - metal box les rallizes denudes - live -77 and there's plenty of others too but i must go eat lunch now... |
Neil Young - Decade
Various - Harmony of the Spheres (one side each by Flying Saucer Attack, Roy Montgomery, Loren Mazzacane Connors, Bardo Pond, Charalambides, and Jessamine) and, just for the sake of excessiveness: Philip Glass - Music In Twelve Parts (6 x LP!) |
The Clash - Sandinista
I bought it when it came out and didn't really know how to take it. It has such a diverse range of musical styles, which isn't so unusual for bands these days, but back then it was something quite shocking. Not all of the tracks work, but even the ones that don't, to my then 14 year old ears, sounded pretty amazing. |

I don't hate them but I've always, since day one with them, been on the fence about them. Sometimes their stuff--especially on those first four albums or so--sounds like an ingenious expansion of the blues-rock genre. Other times it hits me as the most mediocre of mediocre blues-based 70s-era cock rock (see Bad Company, Foreigner, et al). |
I agree with almost everything mentioned so far. I don't agree that BoB is the best double album, though, because that last side is a complete snore fest. There are two double/triple albums I think are close to perfection: Velvet Underground - 1969, and PiL - Metal Box. Not a wasted moment on either of those.

The only double albums i have are -
Todd Rundgren - Something/Anything? Elliott Smith - From a basement on the hill Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation |
Has anybody mentioned Exile on Main Street? I'd say that's another very nearly perfect double album.
