I find it charming that you have absolutely no tolerance for the more commercial side of pompous nonsense. I'm pretty sure I've got a few Chris Rea/ Meatloaf albums that would bring you out in hives.

I think the three bands mentioned above are entirely preposterous piffle, but that's no reason for me not to enjoy them - and enjoy them I do.

I can only think of three bands off the top of my head that make me throw things across the room in anger - Pavement, Penduluum and G!YBE. The first because the lyrics just infuriate me in their rubbishness, the second because it's the very worst of commercial dance music (worse still than the pop pastiches done by Girls Aloud, because their follies in DnB never were credible) and the third because it's genuinely very dull music exalted in reverb by cocks.

Oh, Phish are the shittest idea, delivered shitly (which is still shit, not a double-negative thing). Zappa is the musical equivalent of a sarcastic 13-year-old. Funnily enough, u2 or Coldplay or Keane or whatever just pass me by. If I thought about it, I'd find them irritating, but I can block that sort of thing out.

Yeaaaaah.

pokkeherrie 04.27.2009 01:03 PM

If there is a band I "hate" (more accurately: can't stand), then it's usually someone who has a big hit song that I dislike intensely, but keep hearing everywhere/can't seem to avoid.

nas
clap yr hands say yeah
devendra banhart
the casualties
pink floyd

wow at least half of those are actually good and when it comes to bright eyes, tool, and nas, they are great. are you sure with bright eyes you're not just against his image?

Savage Clone 04.27.2009 01:11 PM

With Bright Eyes, it's the voice.
God does that voice bug me.

However, Moldy Peaches (and related solo projects) are my Shit Barometer.
Yeah, there are "worse" bands out there, but I have come into more contact via cultural osmosis with this one, and I honestly cannot believe anyone likes that music. Hacks.

Bright Eyes was absolutely brilliant when I was hammered 8 years or so ago, and I've not heard a note of his since.

Moldy Peaches are one of those bands that say more about a fan's lack of personality than anything else. Much like Goldie Lookin' Chain. But this is getting into the category of 'most hateful fans', which is always won by old-school Manic Street Preachers' fans.

Sorry, doesn't do anything for me.

joe11121 04.27.2009 02:53 PM

Oasis, Nickelback, U2, Green Day, some other bands I rather not say because there are many of them, ex. Simple Plan, Paramore.
Many others.

automatic bzooty 04.27.2009 03:11 PM

rush, styx, u2, razorlight, xtc. etc.

Pearl Jam are great, I sometimes don't understand why so many hate on them around here.

Rancid (Mostly because I hate Tim Armstrong)
Kaiser Chiefs
Fall Out Boy
Mars Volta
My Chemical Romance
Panic! at the Disco
A lot of Austrian and German stuff most of you won't know

you HATE beefheart but LOVE pearl jam? bleh.

afterthefact 04.27.2009 03:56 PM

Nickelback.

There are many bands I don't like, but I hate none as much as I do Nickelback.

automatic bzooty 04.27.2009 04:48 PM

i'd blocked nickelback out my mind entirely until i read your post, afterthefact.

Toxa 04.27.2009 05:01 PM

Screaming Trees

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 04.27.2009 05:22 PM

I really can't think of a band that I hate. I can always find at least one song, by a group, that I like. Though there is some mainstream rap that really irritates my ears.

hevusa 04.27.2009 05:56 PM

Dave Matthews!

Pearl Jam are okay. For the most part, I find then unappealing, but they do have some good songs. And I could see why people like them, but personally, they do not do much for me.

i don't think i have tolerance for pompous anything. as much as i dislike the music the music of meatloaf it doesn't wind me up as much as the stuff i mentioned, it's just far too daft, although i've only heard a couple of his hits. chris rea i don't have a clue about. anyway, you have meatloaf records, does your ironic taste know no bounds?

Danny Himself 04.27.2009 06:48 PM

Probably this lame-ass prog nerd band. There's a gang of lesbians on my english course and this band is all they talk about, and they're always trying to convert those non-listeners. They all have matching tattoos, as well. Fuck that. Everything I've heard by them is everything that is wrong with music.

canabero 04.27.2009 07:11 PM

Firehose, but really i don't hate them they make me cry because they're the worst "musicians" that i ever heard in my life. Untuned guitar, drum whit no pulse. it's a real shit.

That's understandable. It's the same thing with Captain Beefheart for me; I just don't get into it. He was hyped so much to me that by the time I finally listened, I thought, "This is the guy so many cream their pants over?".

To each their own, though. :)

But earlier in the thread, you put Beefheart as your 4th most hated band ever. I mean I never really "got" the Smiths or post-Clouds Taste Metallic The Flaming Lips or The Talking Heads or whatever other music it is that people go apeshit for and I don't enjoy, but it doesn't mean I claim to hate them. I mean hate is a word I'd reserve for Nickleback or other really worthless crap, not anything with artistic integrity or value.

Actually, I think the only time I regularly "hate" music is when it's shitty stuff by artists I love. Like I kind of would say I hate a lot of 80s Miles Davis or Bob Dylan. And really that's more like disappointment.

Pax Americana 04.27.2009 08:38 PM

Kid Rock. Drop the fuck dead.

Oh and good call on Coheed and Cambria too.

Kuwa_Slayne 04.27.2009 08:49 PM

I'm not really exposed to music that I don't like so I have to go back to my college days for a band that I can't stand: Dave Matthews. Can't stand that Forrest Gump looking motherfucker. Yeah, and Kid Rock can suck it, too.

atsonicpark 04.28.2009 12:12 AM

HAHAHAHA.

Firehose the worst "musicians" that i ever heard in my life

??!!!!!!!!!!

This board has really gone downhill.

Rob Instigator 04.28.2009 08:54 AM

I saw fIREHOSE play live in 1993 and it was at a tiny club and it was fucking amazing. ridiculous high energy RAWK

fugazifan 04.28.2009 09:26 AM

the minutemen are my favorite band, but i never got firehose (maybe because i love the minutemen so much)
but to say that george hurley or mike watt are terrible musicians is just ignorant.

canabero 04.28.2009 06:21 PM

Do you know about music? do you know what is tuning a guitar? do you know about rythymn? OK, Mike Watt plays good i understand his ideas, but the drummer's firehose is hoooooooooorrible he don't know nothing he just sit at the drums and do anything that he want that haves nothing to do whit the rest of the music. And that shit that plays guitar, no comments....

davenotdead 04.28.2009 06:29 PM

green day

automatic bzooty 04.28.2009 07:09 PM

yeah - dave matthews, jack johnson, any chill-ass douchebros of that ilk.

yes i think i know something about music
and i dont like firehose that much. but first of all i think his guitar is in tune (if you dont like untuned guitars that much why are you on a SY message board?)
and seconofly
george hurley is one of the bestdrummers in rock. period.
im not that familiar with firehose but from this random youtube search he sounds ok
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDLMo...eature=related
and mike watt is brilliant.
and if you need further proof of hurley's greatness just listen to any minutemen song

vulva 04.28.2009 08:18 PM

Probably Radiohead or Opeth.

viewtiful_alan 04.28.2009 09:37 PM

Oh come on... how can ya'll name bands like Radiohead or RHCP when bands like:
Styx
Poison
Nickelback
Theory Of A Dead Man
THE BEEGEES
and Soulja Boy
Exist..?

Decayed Rhapsody 04.28.2009 09:44 PM

The Beegees are actually quite brilliant in the earlier days. I also really like Erasure. They are the gayest, greatest synthpop band ever.

[Sandbag] 04.28.2009 09:47 PM

I don't understand how anyone can 'hate' radiohead to be honest.

amerikangod 04.28.2009 10:21 PM

Jazz.
