jon boy 03.07.2007 03:42 PM

i need to get a dentist let alone tip them!

ploesj 03.07.2007 03:56 PM

last time i had a haircut was about nine months ago.. i wanted something i couldn't do myself and payed 50 euros for it (the price differences between men's and women's haircuts are ridiculous)

i have only cut my own hair since, i have curls so you don't see it when the layers aren't perfect.

Пятхъдесят Шест 03.07.2007 03:58 PM

Mine are basically free, as one of my best friends is a stylist.

Rob Instigator 03.07.2007 04:04 PM

it is customary here in usa to tip your hairdresser, especially if she/he did an outstanding job.

the only people I do NOT tip are the fuckers making me a coffee at a coffee shop. I pay $4.00 to have someone make me a coffee. they do not bring it to y table, they do not take my order at my table. I have to stand in line like at mcdonalds. I do not tip at mcdonalds. i will not tip at starbucks or any coffe ehouse. fuck them. they do not get paid waietr salaries (around $2.15 an hour) and do not rely on tips to make their living like waitresses and waiters do in usa.

tipping is reserved for those who "serve" you and earn wages of misery. for some tipping is a way to assert their superiority; for others it's a sort of working class solidarity. i can tell you that working for 2 months as a waiter made me a bigger tipper, because i understand what shit people have to put up with in order to make their money. in that sense countries with a fixed service charge, like france, give the professional waiters a greater dignity than their american counterparts. and hair people in hair salons would make shit money if it weren't for the tips. it's sort of a free enterprise method that bonds them to your service in exchange for a higher reward. like doggie treats. am i awake yet?

Silent Dan Speaks 03.07.2007 04:26 PM

I have a friend cut my hair, but the quality has been going downhill.....

I haven't been to an actual establishment to cut my hair in years, but I think it's about time I start doing it. I don't even know how to talk to a barber/hairdresser/whatever to make sure they make me look sexy.

And I'll have to find one in a few months when I go off to college anyway.

Nobody tips anybody here. I've never tipped anybody in my life and I don't know anybody who has. It does seem customary in the US flicks though. I always found that weird.

Cantankerous 03.07.2007 05:44 PM

look at my hair and you tell me.

Rob Instigator 03.07.2007 05:59 PM

cantank paid about $8.00 for hair bleach!

Hey, I've seen your hair, deadman. A kangaroo couldn't do a worse job.

you're so perceptive rob.
it was manic panic flashlightning.

Prisstina 03.07.2007 08:16 PM

I used to get my hair cut at the Great Clips or Super Cuts or whatevertheheck that place is called, but about a year ago they fucked up REAL BAD and I haven't been back since.

I prefer this local place called the Fetish, which is all trendy and whatnot with this super-good looking guy that does a damn good job. He shampoos, cuts, styles, etc. With my student discount I pay about $30, plus tip. Damned worth it.

yeah, I found this out a few weeks ago...trying to tip a cute waitress at a japanese place, and then i got a strange look and a 'what are you doing' from the australian i was with....i think its because the wages here in australia are so much better than in the US...

you should have offered A LOT MORE, and who knows!

davenotdead 03.07.2007 10:21 PM

i ended up not tipping, since its kinda strange to do so down here...i think anything extra can be viewed as an invitation to 'who knows'...but i don't need to pay for that...

ZEROpumpkins 03.07.2007 10:39 PM

I miss my long hair.

noumenal 03.07.2007 10:41 PM

I tip 20% at restaurants, unless 20% is more than $5 per person. So, if I spend $150 at The Melting Pot w/ 2 people, I tip $10. If I spend $25 by myself at a real restaurant, I tip $5.

contrelefuckingsexisme 03.08.2007 12:16 AM

$16

20%!!! That's pretty kind of you. I'd tip 10% at a restaurant if the service was actually good. If the service was only OK I'd probably just round up the bill to the nearest pound and if it was mediocre or bad then I wouldn't tip at all. I wouldn't tip anywhere else.

I don't think hairdressers are that badly paid in this country. Besides, there are loads of people that work jobs which pay minimum wage where they have to deal with awkward people where no-one is going to tip.

Now I go about every 3-4 months and have my hair trimmed and colored. I am always wanting to try new colors and highlights and streaks and just do different things to my head; so having a friend as my stylist works out well. I usually go to her salon after business hours and tend to pay her half in cash, half in weed. On average I would say I spend $200 p/year on my hair.

your hair looks nice. its very thick isnt it?

Pookie 03.08.2007 07:14 AM

I had my hair cut yesterday and it cost £19, including tip.

What did I get for my money?
A 12 year old girl washing and massaging my hair, and making me feel VERY uncomfortable in the process.
A girl called Gemma asking me where I'm going on holiday for the umpteenth time.
Every other person I see saying, "You've been shorn Sean".

I kind of feel obliged to go where I do because a friend has a hairdresser's (salon?) which is opposite my house.

And I tip because last time I didn't, Kate told me off and made me go back.

sonicl 03.08.2007 07:23 AM

She's a good lass, that Kate. Quite what she's doing with a disgusting non-tipper like you, I'll never know.

sarramkrop 03.08.2007 07:26 AM

I didn't wish a happy birthday, I wished a distinctly average one. But I don't want to upset you, so, for the next significant birthday on the board, I will start a thread called "Fuck off, birthday loser". Will that do?

sarramkrop 03.08.2007 09:10 AM

Did you find a cockroach in your sandwich, miss?

sonicl 03.08.2007 09:16 AM

You're the sort that starts a fight and then skulks at the back looking all innocent, aren't you?

sarramkrop 03.08.2007 09:20 AM

Oh i'm ever so sorry miss,i thought that you were well aquainted with the fact that i was joking. Here, a nice cup of hot camomille tea to calm your nerves!

Pookie 03.08.2007 09:22 AM

Are you two doing "arguing in the style of hairdressers"?

sarramkrop 03.08.2007 09:22 AM

Where is fishmonkey when you need him?

A Thousand Threads 03.08.2007 09:24 AM

so i pay with love.
That´s a good deal in my opinion
