Okay, so the recorder I bought only records in mono, but it's not a total loss because it was only $20 and it came with a stand mic, so I can use it to record my guitar.

So, should I use my cheap cd/tape boombox to make the tape, or look around in pawn shops for a good dual tape deck? Which would be my absolute best bet?

I remember doing that! I used to tape songs off the radio by holding the mic next to the speaker. My tapes used to be punctuated by angry whines of "Shush! I'm recording this, it's my favourite!".

A dual or single tape deck of any kind would probably be a big step up for you. If you do find a dual deck, make sure to only use the "record" deck for recording and not playing. Play all the tapes you want to listen to on "play only" side.

OH - if your boombox does auxiliary inputs, that should work just fine!

I'm just going to record straight to tape from my cd/cassete personal stereo that I just found downstairs. Thanks for all yr help everybody!!

Give some consideration to joining our Mix Tape Swap group. The Mix Tape # 8 thread will probably appear at any time this next month.
