what i don't understand here is how come you went to college 3-1/2 years without any debt, and one semester to finish would have burdened you with immense loans? |
wonderful
we laid out by my pool and jammed some mozart drank a glass of wine going to dinner in a few |
Quote:
not at all! i need all the encouragement i can get just to get through this semester. |

I had some savings and went to a cheap school. I wasn't referring to my personal situation. I was speaking in the general sense regarding debt, as most college-bound folks seem to incur quite the mountain of debt in the present climate. Yes, statistically the odds are in your favor with the degree; all I am saying is that there are nuances within that statistical construct and nothing is guaranteed. |

If it's the second, what is the Latin translation of the song? |

of course nothing is ever guaranteed-- in that vein i could say you shouldn't buy a house cos maybe a volcano will erupt right underneath. with val already having invested 5 years of his life into this, to throw it all away so close to the goal would be a total waste. that's the reason i asked him how far he was into it. had he been in his sophomore year i might have recommended otherwise. at this point, a degree (ANY degree) will serve him better than "a bunch of courses". fact is, often recruiters will regard your degree simply as your ability to finish what you've started. unfinished studies will peg you as a "quitter" whether you actually are or not. a recruiter doesn't have time to know you personally, so they have to make quick judgments. degree > no degree. (i should know what im saying, i didnt finish my phd). a b.a. functions as a credential, nothing more-- but it's an important one. |

Now you're just being silly. A bombing is far more likely. |

or godzilla could come out of one of the 10,000 lakes :D === val -- here's another option for you. after 5 years you're probably fucking fed up from that shit. so instead of throwing it all away consider taking a leave of absence. tell them that you need to get a job or something, i don't know. then after you're done curing your book fatigue, you can go back & finish your courses. see there's a reason this shit is meant to last 4 years. it gets fucking BORING after a while. but whatever you do, try not to blow it impulsively, or it will cost you more in the long run. |
I hope I don't get that frustrated. I do want to finish college.
|
at this point i must withdraw momentarily from the board as i have been a total slacker for the whole day.
the risk of returning is quite high but i should at least try. |
My day was excellent. Very nice indeed.
|
started well, got worse as the sun went away, like most of them

don't be ridiculous, godzilla comes out of the sea anyway, my experience of university has lead me to believe it is ultimately a waste of time unless you plan on working in a field that requires a certain degree. i'm thinking about becoming a plumber. |
![]() I know a few plumbers who make a decent amount of money. Though they are also drunks. |
Quote:
The Audacity that you have to say such comments. Are you saying Toilet isn't a alcoholic. |
I suppose I was saying, he'd be a better alcoholic if he were a plumber. And he'd have gobs of money. People like this always make the best drunks.
Aim high, comrade. |

as a future plumber you need to be acquainted with the existence of underground rivers ![]() these are the highways of the acquatic monster world. how do you think the loch ness monster hides so well? he actually vacations in tahiti. |
Nessy doesn't hide at all!

Don't be lying, we all know tahiti doesn't exist. |

i'm regularly presented with the task of watching them, and i figured since the older two are on spring break i'd take them somewhere fun. |

oh oh... wait a second, i thought of this. i assure you i'm not trying to be a total pain in the ass. but see, after you left college, you had no debt and bought a house. now, if you had stayed, you would still have no debt, and you would still have bought a house, but you'd have a college degree also. now, i don't know if you would have been able to use that degree, but generally speaking there are more advantageous employment opportunities for people with a degree-- even on a temporary basis. and to contrast your particular friend with the mfa who works at a coffee shop, i have a friend with an mfa-- in poetry no less-- who is doing great. she used to be my TA in college. she's published a couple of books, enjoys a tenured position in a liberal arts college, has been a state poet laureate, lectures, travels, and makes quite a decent living while pursuing what she likes, with all the perks of a tenured position, including sabbatical years of course. now there are also people with advanced degrees working as permanent adjuncts-- people who get paid by the course. they will be forever fucked. for various logistical reasons i was set to be one of them, and so i quit & started working on my own. however, the MA has opened quite a few doors, and i can assure you my grad school experience didn't go to waste. even if i don't directly use my studies today, having to teach for several years was quite a formative experience. anyway, i certainly do not believe that college is for everyone, and a lot of people would be better served by a trade or technical school, but for those who can put it to good use, having some sort of degree is a lot better than having none. statistically, sure. but i do like my chances. |
i just got off of work. i love my job but it really is starting to destroy my soul.
|
where do you work?
|
