a friend won't play video games despite enjoying them quite a bit, over some sort of discomfort with being judged for it, i guess. he's got a bit of brooklyn hipster in him. i guess he thinks people will think it's uncool? it's weird to deny yourself enjoyment of an entire art form just because they were targeted toward kids in the 80s and early 90s. most games are aimed at adults these days. no more stigma. enjoy what you enjoy. |
Letting anyone shame you into not enjoying ANYTHING, is bullshit man. Fuck them. Video Games were created by adults for adults, and only after the marketing craze for all the bullshit that came along with pac man did it get seen as purely a children's endeavor.
May as well tell people that they should be ashamed of watching movies, or TV shows, or opera, or looking at paintings, etc. |
I still play them and enjoy them, i just think they are kind of idiotic at the same time. Video games are to free time as junk food is to meal times.
|
i wish they would do a great flight sim again, using a proper joystick for xbox one

they stimulate your nervous system with a variety of challenges that require a multitude of skills—from eye-hand coordination to resource management to memory to long-term planning to social communication to performing under pressure to imagination and creativity, and so on, depending on the game. nothing junky about that if you know what you’re doing and why and what for and can enjoy it for what it is. i read about a study that showed surgeons who play console games have greater eye-hand coordination and make fewer mistakes than their non-game playing colleagues. i don’t have the source off the top of my head but should be googable. and then again—doing something constantly and feeling guilty about it is also its own kind of game! if the games you play feel idiotic— find better games! everything we do is games. including mealtimes. |
If video games are so good for eye hand coordination why do nerds suck at sport?

no legs i guess - oh but we now have e-sports espn here broadcasts them |

How will we know? Maybe they're amazing at them. The fact they're spending all their time indoors playing games means we'll never find out. |

Most high school american football coaches use the Madden NFL video game to teach their players about formations, patterns, offensive and defensive strategy, etc., They are very useful.
Pilots, astronauts and the military all use video games (flight sims) to train their personnel and make it as realistic as possible, with amazing results. Imagine all the asshole idiots who railed against the rise of the table-top board game in the early 1900's! I have read articles of people writing about how evil monopoly was or how these games cause dissension in the family and eroded the authority of parents. STUPID SHIT. |

This is how I feel about SF3. I don't need any new flashy new fightman games because this one has all I need. Mind games and reactions heh |
i had been thoroughly obsessed with Breath of the Wild, but i became burnt out. it's almost TOO big. TOO much stuff to do, but kinda the same thing over and over with no end in sight.
i'm on resident evil revelations. it suuuucked on 3ds. just bad controls. i'm glad i gave the wii u vers a try. doo doo doot doo doo, i'm lovin' it. |
I am finally getting decent at BF1.

I'm wondering when WoW Classic will come out. I already think I know which class combo I'm going to make first (if anyone is wondering Night Elf Hunter).

Now on to Dark Souls Remastered, it's approx my 30th run through but my first on remastered, and i shall be co-oping with my brother who has never played it before. Have I ever told you about how i think this is the best game since the 16bit era?

Honestly haven’t played this yet. Been wanting to buy my PS3 broke after like playing this for two hours. Nice to see I’ll have another chance with this remaster. |
Anyone picking up the SF 30th Anniversary?
|
I just started playing GTA V. It's pretty good so far.

Oh gosh, you're in for a ride. The story is great, yet I spent more time just doing random exploring and stupid shit. I'm not even a fan of the series. V is just fantastic. |
Oh yeah? Nice! I loved Vice City. GTA3 was good, although there was some issues with gameplay. Although I played San Adreas through, I don't hold any fond memories for it. The story was grim and the soundtrack annoying.
I had to take IV back to the store because my computer at the time couldn't handle it. |

I only played Vice City, loved it though. The best thing was the radio station where I could import a folder of custom mp3s and play whatever shit I wanted in the game. |
V is just amazing. I got so bored with IV, but this one is the best of the lot in terms of story. The character Trevor Phillips has to be one of my favourite video game characters.
After I played that I played Dishonoured 2 and was shocked at how bad the voice acting in that was. Think that's testament to how serious Rockstar are about every detail in their games. |
Hmm, I haven't checked if you can import your own mp3s to V.
My favourite radio station in Vice City was Radio Espantoso. |
hello, i am playing battlefeild 1 and i am loving it to the end
you might wana also see gta5 online Battlefield 1, rather than telling a single narrative, hosts five short stories following different soldiers in different parts of the world throughout the conflict. It plays out like a fantastic mini-series, each brilliantly voice-acted and believable, with screens of text contextualising each soldier’s situation as the prologue and epilogue. What’s great about each story is they don’t try to portray heroes. These are simply the stories of war, of brave individuals doing incredible things. One story in particular leaves you questioning whether or not the lead character was even a hero at all. It’s utterly engrossing, and thankfully there isn’t a single “hoo-rah” to be heard.Nox Showbox Vidmate best regards |
Played through Doki Doki Literature Club over the weekend. My mind is sufficiently blown...
|
Assange has clearly demonstrated what happens to real adversarial dissidents and insurgents – they’re persecuted, demonized, and threatened, not befriended by and invited to parties within the halls of imperial power

I downloaded Yakuza 0, Monster Hunter World, and Dragon Quest XI on my PC recently. That's it for me for games for a loooong while.
|
Nice, I have MHW on PS4, dope game.
Haven't touched it in a while though... Currently replaying FF7. Except, this time. I plan to 100% it. All sidequests n shit. I've never beaten emerald and I hope to break Vincent and 1 shot Emerald weapon. I'm playing it on PS4, so grinding won't suck thanks to 3x speed. Anyone play SF30th Anniversary? I have it on PC and PS4.... |
I have it on Switch.

It's a new action 2D game for consoles as well as PC and it's just mindblowing! Oldschool graphics kind of sucks however the gameplay is brilliant. |
