Haven't had any lately but an ice cold IPA is my preferred choice.

This one to be precise....

You must be kidding. That is what in the old days we used to drink at parties when nothing else was left. It's like drinking cough medicine.

jico. 05.10.2007 06:56 AM

lol, here's what you people should drink in a hot summer night:

cachaça + lime + sugar + ice

if you dont have cachaça just use vodka.

CAIPIRINHA!

otherwise... just drink a good cold beer.

Toilet & Bowels 05.10.2007 06:58 AM

caipirinha's are nice, it's hard to find good ones though.

anyway, pims is good and also a crisp cold beer is nice and refreshing on a hot summer night.

Pastis is not the kind of alcohol you drink during parties, it's more of an apéritif. I used to drink it quite regularly when i was living in the south of France (event though I was in the south west of France, not the southe east / Provence where it originates), and loved it - it is indeed perfect in summer. I also had it sometimes at parties, at later hours of the night, but it was never such a good idea.

I haven't had some in years and I sort of miss it: maybe I should try to get some of it here for the summer.

Toilet & Bowels 05.10.2007 07:19 AM

Depth Charge

Ingredients:
1 oz brandy
1 oz calvados
4 dashes lemon juice
2 dashes grenadine

Shake with ice in a cocktail shaker.
Strain into a cocktail glass.

Decorate with half a slice of apple.

Everyneurotic 05.10.2007 10:48 AM

you guys are snobs, all booze gets you wasted, it depends how much you want to spend on it and how much quality and flavor you want from it and all these factors are hardly dependent or proportionated to each other.

MellySingsDoom 05.10.2007 10:50 AM

After a session at a Mexican restaurant a few days ago, I vote for tequila cocktails at the moment. Very nice and refreshing.

hahahaa....

I AM a beer snob ! :D

I only like IPA's and sometimes I'm handed a Pale Ale...and turn it down. I'm discriminating and so many people think if you like beer...you'll drink any handed to you...at any time !

I'm selective and I LIKE beer enough to know what I like and WON'T just drink any....I don't like wasting my time like that.

I AM a beer snob !!!! :p

lies! foul lies!

alcohol is alcohol, but alcohol is not the only byproduct of fermentation. you're talking about fruits and grains and sugars of various kinds that are fermented by variety upon variety of yeasts. that's why different alcohols will fuck you up differently, and everything tastes different.

take champagne, the more obvious-- the 2nd fermentation produces aldehydes, and hunderds of other compounds, which are why champagne gets to your head so quickly-- quicker than wine.

my dad always indoctrinated me with this mantra: grain with grain, fruit with fruit, but never mix. meaning you can drink together different grain alcohols (like beer and scotch), or fruit alcohols (wine and brandy), but if you mix you're going to give yourself a headache.

while it's a rough rule of thumb, it works. it's not the alcohol itself but the hundreds of other compounds form the fermentation. what makes one beer taste different from the other has to go through your liver too.

also the sugar content is important-- sweet/sugary drinks like say a black sambucca or sweet vermouth will get you drunk faster. this is because, roughly speaking, you metabolize alcohol into sugar, and if you're all sugared up you block that metabolic path which means the alcohol has more time to kill your braincells. true story.

beyond that-- cheapass alcohol with bad fermentation processes can contain methyl alcohol-- which is metabolized into formic acid (think ants, bees & wasp stings) and can cause nerve damage (it tends to show a preference for the optic nerve) & other beatitudes. sometimes in real ratty countries producers will even spike their product with it. oh, ive had experiences with some real cheap "wine".

anyway, the liver is the only organ that can grow again when you chop it off, but you still have to be kind to it. for that reason, if im planning to get plastered i'll secure a bottle of scotch and drink from it all night. scoth has the cleanest drunkenness of the lot, i think.

Everyneurotic 05.10.2007 11:15 AM

ohh no, i agree man; i meant about brands and prices.

example: it seems a bunch of you are very in love with fake tequila like patron just because it's expensive, while true tequila (because, like champagne, tequila is named and certified by a region where it's produced) like jimador or herradura or sauza might not be as recognized in the states and might be cheaper overall and it's 100% BETTER.

oh yeah, ha ha, silly gringos, paying for marketing-- herradura is king!

i heard from a friend whose family is from jalisco that the maker of cuervo i think or sauze i forget, keeps a bottle of herradura in his office, ha ha ha.

yes well i think up to a certain price point you pay for quality after that you pay for taste & "looks".

--

ps- this post is in no way meant to be offensive to gringos. its just meant to poke a little fun, you know, in revenge for making us "exotic". but just a little.

while, most of anything it's about ignorance, i mean, marketing. they are paying for status not for the actual drink. that said, price and status alone don't make a product good or bad.

yeah, that bottle is legendary.

HairwayToSteven 05.10.2007 02:22 PM

ha, nothing, just silliness-- spotted the fact that "paul mitchell" is paul dejoira (De Joira) and thought the name was portuguese-sounding. after a little research it turns out it might actually be catalonian. which it isn't so far off the mark, globally speaking...

and on that subject hows your famous presentation coming along?

king_buzzo 05.10.2007 03:34 PM

I dont think you can actually enjoy alcohol in summer, it makes your blood hot, thus making it even warmer.

good point man, and that's why i posted gin & tonic.

tonic is made from quinine which was used to treat malaria.

tonic actually cools you down a bit.

and that's why it's a REAL summer drink. & tasty.

--

oh another summer beverage: sangria

Trasher02 05.10.2007 03:50 PM

Yeah! Tonic is pretty awesome and cools you down. I want to try Sangria, I hear its pretty great.

My mom drank this really cool reddish drink in Germany and it was amazing, but I don't remember what it was...

I'm so sick of PBRs. It's the cheap drink of scooter rallies.

I prefer a Newcastle or a Red Stripe.

Mojitos are awesome
Chilled Polish and Russian vodkas are a goto as well.

I'm learning the joys of Gin right now. I'm starting with Seagram's extra dry. Makes a good martini.

are you talking about this:

haha sorry for spaming this all over this forum it's just that it has been taking much of my time and it's also the reason why spend more time in the internet...

the title as my slow brain translated it probably sounds silly(it's works well in portuguese, though), the meaning that it should have is that global warming it's also a local problem wich we can help to solve... the work explains what is global warming what causes the gw, what are the solutions what and we can do (localy) to slow down the global warming...

i will make sure to send you a copy, a ver se melhoras o teu português. :)

oh, that, no, i can read perfectly, but i vaguely remembered having seen it, and i knew there was the world "global" in it-- when i said global i free associated and remembered (vaguely) this thing. if you could send me some pessoa though, or that little old communist man, whats his name... hm.. grrr.. saramago! yeah, that i could use!

Isoflurane 05.11.2007 10:21 AM

I'm not going to read through all of them, but:
Mint Julep
Mojito
