It would of course be only fair to mention Al Jolson in the fairly important flick The Jazz Singer.

Nice one, MellySingsDoom. Unfortunately some rascal called MellySingsDoom has got there before you, on both nominations. Gah!
|
What, this cannot stand, Hip Priest. I challenge this other Melly to a duel! I choose pasta shells at dawn.
|
Shells, eh? Penne is the traditional choice in these situations, of course, but your maverick selection might just scare and confuse your opponent. Good thinking.

lou reed plays himself in prozac nation,
|
Lou Reed does a voice-over for "Rock and Rule" (animated) and plays a couple of songs.
And of course, "Blue in the face" where he plays himself talking about smoking and his childhood in Brooklyn. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FANQBrCg8vw Includes footage from Jim Jarmusch with Harvey Keitel as well. |
Here's one of the songs in "Rock and Rule"..."My name is Mok." He plays the villain of course.
http://download.yousendit.com/BF6749C8420000C7 Quality isn't the best, but the song is very funny. "I'm the best thing since World War III....Girls?" Lou sings. |

Gasp...
Toko's already mentioned the schizoid Performance, with Mick Jagger and James Fox (who's not a musician but a great actor in that film) Gasp... Terminal Pharmacy's already mentioned Nick Cave's prison movie Ghosts of the Civil Dead, which was rather good, quoted as one of the best Australian pictures of its decade. Cave plays a mad convict placed there to create tension in the most dangerous prisoners area. A beautiful film. Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson was James Taylor's mechanic in Two Lane Blacktop Cris Campion, who played oppostite Walter Matthau in Polanski's Pirates was a drummer in a French boys band So was Mark Wahlberg if I'm correct Rufus Thomas in Cookie's Fortune Lyle Lovett in Cookie's Fortune, and the Player, Short cuts Edson, John Lurie, Arto Lindsay, Ann Magnuson and others in Desperately Seeking Susan (Magnuson would play in the following so-so Susan Seidelman picture with John Malkovich) Ric Ocasek (painting the light from a bulb), Debbie Harry in Hairspray Ric Ocasek and Neil young (truck driver) in Alan Rudolph's Made in Heaven Neil Young would play in another Rudolph film, Love at Large, that isn't great Rudolph directed a picture I've never seen called Roadie, which had Alice Cooper, Meat Loaf and Harry-Stein-Burke-Destri-Infante-Harrison Boss Hog plays in Joe's Apartment cockroach picture The Woodentops in Assayas' Désordre |
don't know if thse were mentioned but:
Oingo Boingo in Back To School Gibby Haynes in Nowhere Bob Dylan in Masked and Anonymous Teresa Taylor in Slacker and of course Richard Edson, Gordon Gano, Debbie Harry, David Johansen, LL Cool J, Kate Pierson, Iggy Pop, Michael Stipe in The Adventures of Pete and Pete... but that's a tv show |
Nick Cave seem's to have appeared in loads of films, but no one mentioned his part in Wings of Desire.
