Ole
Live at Village Vanguard (4cd version is all inclusive, or spread over many disparate Lps) Live trane: the European tours (7cd set, official release of former unofficial discs) One down, one up: live at the half note Selflessness Kulu se mama Expression You can't go wrong with Coltrane really, and if you're like me, you will need it all. I'm still working on that, there is 100+ releases. Impulse records era is my fave, though earlier discs are awesome too. |
last year A Love Supreme changed my world, then Asscension knocked me fucking over
at the moment i'm digging Blue Trane. really nice My Favourite Things is wicked too |

Absolutely. Not for someoncense just discovering him, of course, but Ascensipn is his best work and one if my favorite albums ever ( that is, if you consider the Verve reissue containing I and II an album.) |
the second side of A Love Supreme knocks me unconscious everytime
|
Not sure if this has been mentioned as it is pretty goddamn obvious, but Coltrane's work with Miles Davis's quin/sextet is universally required listening. He is the highlight of even Kind of Blue in my opinion. I just listened to the album yesterday for the first time in years and his solos come close to upstaging Miles himself.
