i admire the literary prowess of all in this thread, but if you're really talking about middle school aged girls, we all read the VC Andrews flowers in the attic series, and i loved the "dark forces" series that had to do with the occult. judy blume and all that stuff, that's middle school reading. not to say that little girls can't appreciate more, but teenage girls are a different breed, and you can't force "cool" reading on them if they aren't interested.
