I, too, had a cat put down in my time. It's tough. Was the cat sick of something or was it just old age?

both, she was 17 and had a variety of problems and it was either put her to sleep or she'd have a slow painful death with the possibility of seizures.

Sounds kind of like the case with mine. I think ours had diabetes as well as a horrible allergic skin reaction to the outdoors (she refused to be indoors with the cats that we had). Not to mention arthritis and general old age.
