Yes, it seems to be a grower (like most of their previous records). |
sounds like a very 'open' album...
can't wait for december. want to hear it on my stereo (and loud!) |
I am barely listening to it, I will tell you about it later.
|
I like it, it is good. I have to listen to it more so I can make my final conclusion.
|
I should probably listen now, so when it comes out, I like it 18 times more...
They're such a grower band. I couldn't stand Hail to the Thief (especially this one, but the others too) when I first got it, and now it's one of my all time favourites (of ALL TIME!!!). I still don't want to listen yet... |
From what I have heard so far, a wonderful album, well worth the listen... Not much filler here, the music is impecabbly rendered, as should be expected. My initial 'clinical' reaction is that this album is reminiscent of electronic artists like kid 606 or scott heron - but tempered with a shimmering, almost aquatic sheen that permeates every sound, from the subtly echo-ed snares to the ringing reverb drench of the vocals (in some songs). Thom's voice might turn some people away, as usual, but if you can piece his voice into the whole framework of the music, you'll be rewarded with a worthwhile listen... My two cents, thank you for reading...
|
I think this is one of his best vocal displays out of all the albums.
|
Stop praising it! I still have two months to wait.

Videotape is the new Fog. ah ha. Now I want a tour. |
I think I still need a few more listens, but I can say I'm disappointed by Videotape (compared to the live versions - including the one from the show at Rock en Seine which I attended). It's a bit like Motion picture soundtrack for which the early live version works better in my opinion.
|
Radiohead have never disappointed me. I feel like I should be open to critizing them more, comparing the album to thier best stuff. I heard the live Spin collection they put together on thier site, and I just burnt the album onto CD, yet to listen to it. I know its not terrible, at worst its a really good album.

Same goes for videotape, the version "From the Basement" is soooo beautiful. But, hey, even the "in rainbow" version isn't bad. |
body snatchers is just an incredible song.....

Or, have you heard the pre-OK computer version of No Surprises? The one recorded live at Planet Paradiso with only an acoustic guitar and different lyrics. I thought that one was much better than the album version. |
What's a fair price for the download?
|
$0
In fact, based on the quality of the album, I would say $0 is probably too much. |

this version does not stand up to these songs live versions.. |
I don't think $0 would be fair or appropriate... There is definitely a factor of musicianship involved within this album that has value beyond just a couple of digitally-rendered audio files. True, it might not be worth as much as you would like it to be, but I liken it to a band playing in a venue with an entrance fee. The fact that the band is playing there and you don't like it, doesn't change the fact that you have to earn the right to gain access to the venue in the first place, namely by paying the entrance fee. After you've done that, and you've determined that the band sucks, then you have the choice to ignore the band's subsequent performances and you can have a say by voicing your opinions on the band, or by spreading word on the band's quality. But it would be unfair and detrimental to the artist and to art in general, to pay $0, just because you can... You owe them at least 6-8 bucks, which would be the price you'd pay for a self-pressed CD sold by hand by a local garage indie band...
|
I paid $0 for the mp3s because I will be paying for the CD release when that comes out. These files are just promo to me.
|
Yeah, if you're going to buy the CD later on, then this download is more like a sampler. I have a feeling the CD might contain more tracks, and as well the audio quality is going to be better, because even if you have an MP3 player, you can rip the tracks in any format and at a higher level quality in terms of bitrate or compression. But, for those who might want to stick to this and not get the CD, I think it would be fair to give them compensation. It's hard work making music.

HOLY CRAP, that album is wonderful.
It took me about 4 listens, but it just fucked my skull for good. |
All I Need is the new Climbing UP The Walls.
ha ha I like this album quite a lot, I keep on posting stupid comments, though. |
I haven't listened yet. I'm a procastinator.
|
Yeah, it's great. I've been listening to it over and over since it came out.

No, I mean the ghey ass guitar ballads coming out of my speakers. |

Agreed. When the discbox version comes out, it will be Radiohead's 1st double album. My local paper gave the album 3 and a half out of 4 stars, and AllMusic.com gave it 4 and a half out of 5 stars, so I decided to take the plunge and download the MP3s. I have just finished listening to them, and at times I thought it was the best thing the band's done since Kid A, but now that I'd heard everything, I'm a little disappointed...not disappointed as in I didn't/don't like it, just in that it might be just a bit over-hyped. Then again, everyone says this album is better with good bass, so listening though $10 subsonically challenged computer speakers probably isn't the best way to hear this music. Not only that, but Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief had to grow on me before I really liked them, so maybe that's the way it'll be with this one too. Though I do agree with whomever said the more rockin' tracks seem a bit subdued (with the exception of "Bodysnatchers", which sounds like garage punk when compared with nearly everything the band's done this decade)... I'm preordering the discbox with my next paycheck, so it doesn't really matter. Somewhat off the subject: Why aren't Radiohead on a label now anyway? Did they leave or did the label drop them? |
i was never big fan, but i always liked Radiohead. this album sounds great. some great melodies there and yes it's probably grower. on the first listen it reminded me Kid A or Tom's solo album a bit. atmospehre of the album is SO Radiohead.
wondering how they going play this album live and how it'll sound. Kid A was amazing live. I was nicely surprised when I heard it live compare to how it sounds on the album. same case probably. not really something extraordinary different (or new) from Radiohead, but it's all good. great album, great listen. |

I think it's quite good, but still not as good as Kid A.
|
15 Step is obviously a reference to the Greater Perfect System of the ancient Greeks.
|
Or maybe it has something to do with the fact that the song is in 5--it could go either way.
|
|
after listening to it for a week, i'm kind of over it.
|
Well, I got it yesterday.
It's not very good, is it? Maybe it's a "grower", maybe I'll REALLY dig it soon, and I can't deny it's got some good parts and moments of good musicality. But man, it's just the same old shit. Pretty boring if you ask me. Also, hilariously, the music in the second track reminds me of if Radiohead did a Queens of the Stone Age cover. But yeah. I'd say it's probably.. hmm.. it's just above Pablo Honey in my book as far as their album rankings go. It's not BAD, just.. underwhelming.. yeah. |

"Weird fishes / Arpeggi" is my fav at the moment. Gets some awesome momentum going. love the breakdown and singing at the end.
One of the guys at Atease did a mashup of it with the Ether Festival version from 2005. It sounds amazing. He did a pretty fair job synching it up considering ones faster than the other and pitch is slightly different: "Weird Fishes / Arpeggi" Album-Ether mix |
Listened it once... and I don't have a feeling that I should do it again.
