Obviously peoples idea of pop is alot different than mine. I see 'Pop' as The Shins, The Dissociatives, The Sleepy Jackson, etc etc. And, of course, the Beatles.

Regina Spektor
Fiona Apple Fiest the Shins |
i dont know if you ever heard this record, thriller or somethin made by some insane guy named jacko or whatever, but its prolly the most perfect pop (pop as in that its good music that appeals to the masses) record made, besides pet sounds.

Blondie, but you probably already have it.

pop music does NOT ROCK
if it rocks, even in the slightest, then it is "poppy" ROCK, not POP MUSIC! the beatles were ROCK. never forget it. |
Rob, man, The Beatles WERE POP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have a skewed MTV perception of what 'Pop' is. |

I give up. |
I'm not sure if I'd call the Beatles a 'Rock' band at all. Maybe a few individual songs, but generally they were Pop. It's obvious that Lennon was heading sllightly more in the Rock direction, but the band split before they could ever really become a Rock band, as such. Besides, with Macca's interest in avant-garde composition, Harrison's growing interest in electronics and Lennon's political 'radicalism' I'm guessing that had they ever BECOME a rock band, it would've probably been more along the lines of something like Amon Duul or Faust than AC/DC. Unfortunately, we'll never know, and the post-Beatles solo albums offer next to no help whatsoever.

definition of pop is an odd thing... i fucking hate that joy division is pop now - love will tear us apart is like the only song people know if i ever play a cover live and you i saw it in an ad the other day for some compliation it really makes me fucking sick for a couple of reasons that i wont go into... but ive always kind of liked bands that were really alternative but flirted with the mainstream in a big way - the cure are a perfect example... i dont feel like getting into the subject right now. however - i think i'd define it as anything that's been manufactured in someway or another... or really indicative of the time - being heavily marketed that kind of stuff...
The Pippettes are the best pop band ive seen in years... http://youtube.com/watch?v=BrCK2dbcJ0o&feature=related |
I second Serge Gainsbourg.
|
The Pipettes are fun ... I saw them last year on a summer festival and I loved their concert. Catchy, funny and amusing.
|
dont forget slutty!
but yeah same here - and they were actually a lot of fun opening the fest. |
A lot of The Cure's singles seemed like really good pop to me - The Love Cats, Just Like Heaven etc. The 2 singles compilations are very good.
|
blondie is beaauuutiful pop music
i also reccomend a lot of disco: andrea true connection - more, more, more the trammps - disco inferno etc. all the disco hits were fantastic. |
Snoop Dogg - Sensual Seduction
That song is the jam! |
Britney's new single is catchy as fuck.
