Slowdive - Alison (But she laughs and tells me it's just fine, I guess she's out there somewhere. I can't ignore that line I find it really touching)
Joy division - New dawn fades (I've walked on water, run through fire. Can't seem to feel it anymore. Oh my god)
Interpol - Leif Erikson (Has a special meaning to me)
My Bloody Valentine - Sometimes (I don't know how you could not love me now)

That's all I can think of for now.

screamingskull 02.15.2008 02:15 PM

well pretty much every Elliott Smith song makes me upset, i can't listen to him in bars or shops, i have to leave. i can only listen to him on my terms, when i decide.

but especially
Elliott Smith - Fond Farewell

because of the lyrics

"this is not my life, it's just a fond farewell to a friend
it's not what i'm like, it's just a fond farewell to a friend
who couldn't get things right, fond farewell to a friend
i see you're leaving me and taking up with the enemy
the cold comfort of the in between
a little less than a human being
a little less than a happy high
a little less than a suicide
the only things that you really tried"

From A Basement On The Hill is the most beautiful and horribly depressing album i have ever listened to. i haven't listened to it in a really long time.

You shouldnt ever feel ashamed for crying at a song. Some songs ive cried at in the past, many of them id probably roll my eyes at now, but thats just me being a dick. If it made you cry its beyond analysis really.

I was sorting through a cupboard today and found a cassette that came free with Underground magazine (1988!).

One of the tracks was by the Wedding Present and it reminded me how much I used to like them , and found some of their lyrics quite moving. In particular, I loved My Favourite Dress. Although it never brought me to tears, I did have a lump in my throat whenever I listened to it.

Rob Instigator 02.19.2008 04:18 PM

ALL HER FAVORITE FRUIT - Camper Van Beethoven

GOODBYE TO GUYVILLE - Urge Overkill

Agreed. Some of his songs are heartbreaking.

Johnny Cash's version of Hurt was a tearjerker when I first heard it and saw the video.
Roy Orbison is another musician that makes me weep.

ZEROpumpkins 02.20.2008 05:04 AM

Yeah I thought that about Hurt too. I think mostly because he died not long after.

Trasher02 02.22.2008 03:58 PM

Radiohead - I might be wrong
Let's go down the waterfall
Think about the good times and never look back
Never look back

Rob Instigator 02.22.2008 04:20 PM

When I see the sun
I hope it shines on me
And gives me everything...well, almost
Some people seem
To be just small hard peas
Sometimes I think it's me

I try so hard for bruises on your back - just to get you back
I try so hard for bruises on your back, tiny and mean
Just to get you back
Just to get you back
Just to get you back
Just to get you back

When I see the sun
I hope it shines on me
And gives me everything
To be one mile high
Then I would kill you all
What I gave to you, just meant nothing
When I see the sun
I hope it shines on me
And gives me everything
When I see the sun
I hope it shines on me
And gives me everything...well, almost

Not quite crying when I hear these, but they are beautiful songs:
Haunted Henschel's cover of Moon River
Haunted Henschel - Deep Inside Her Bathrooms
Television - Knockin' On Heaven's Door

Sorry, I don't do those mp3 sharing things. But you can find it on "The Blow Up". It's a 2 cd live album, and also has covers of Fire Engine and Satisfaction, as well as 15 minute versions of Marquee Moon and Little Johnny Jewel.

Cantankerous 02.25.2008 01:56 AM

david bowie - heroes
reminds me of someone...which makes me sad. i won't cry though.

velvet underground - ocean

hat and bread 02.25.2008 02:31 AM

Nico - Julius Caesar
Nico - Afraid
Morita Doji - Our Failure

Too many Francoise Hardy songs to name. Something in her voice slays me everytime, even if the song itself isn't particularly sad.

this too

and Eric Dolphy's rendition of Come Sunday on Iron Man.

Torn Curtain 04.28.2008 09:43 AM

Portishead - Roads

you bunch of big babies. take a tazer up the a hole and then youll have something to cry about

Mostly Harmless 07.26.2008 03:25 AM

Eclipse by Pink Floyd was one of the very few songs to actually make me cry, and it certainly rattles my spine everytime I listen to it. In fact, sometimes I cry just talking about that song.
Syd Barrett was just a sad figure.

brain damage and eclipse both

great gig in the sky too

i don't think i would actually cry but i would feel like it

MellySingsDoom 07.26.2008 03:34 AM

+1 for "Great Gig" and "Brain Damage" here.

I actually did cry when listening to Dennis Wilson's "Mexico" last weekend - it really touched me.

Cantankerous 07.26.2008 03:36 AM

hole - "northern star"
really a gem in their spotty discog.

nick drake - "fly"

Death & the Maiden 07.26.2008 03:40 AM

I don't think music has ever made me cry, but it has certainly moved me. The most recent song to do this was Ed Kuepper's "Sleepy Head (Serene Machine)". I love the chorus with the choir:
"So please wake up you sweet sleepy head
When night time comes there's things to be said
No happy end, serene machine
If you don't act now, you'll see what I mean"

DeadDiscoDildo 07.26.2008 03:04 PM

Yeah, I don't really cry but I would say Julia by the Beatles is a great one, someone said that on the first page.

Right now though, this song really does it for me, just hits me hard.

It's called Darling Be My Guest. By a band called Sovus Radio from Atlanta.

www.myspace.com/sovusradio

I urge you to hear this song, immediately. Listen to the whole thing. The first half will just put you in stasis, the middle will pick you up and move you, only to lead you to the very end, which brings you down farther then you started, and it's all very well organized and touching in my opinion.

Sonic Youth 37 07.26.2008 03:46 PM

Diamond Sea will make the eyes water a bit if the mood catches me right. There's a few other songs that will do likewise but I can't remember them at the moment.

batreleaser 07.26.2008 03:51 PM

sonic youth-wild flower soul sounds real sad to me, and mournful

DeadDiscoDildo 07.26.2008 06:41 PM

Go make like your sig.

I agree with that

This board is pure WIN, my friend. You'll get the hang of the general insanity round here, though.
