This was a band from the mid- to late-80's called Sperm Wails...

Could that have been released by Load Records last year?

The album is decent, but
"Future Shock" is a perfect single!

The album is better than decent, it's amazing, and it's improved by the Future Shock EP. Future Shock is a great song, I like the part when the guitar stops playing, the bass keeps going, and then the guitar comes back in after a while - it's the perfect hook.

Lately I've been listening to bands like Silverfish, Loveblobs, Ligament, Penthouse, Sun Carriage, stuff that's on the Big-bollocked bonfire blow up compilation 7" and obviously th' ever amazing Faith Healers.

I.e. things that were way more filthier than most of the shoegaze dishwater. Kind of like a british answer to the whole 90's noise-rock/post-hardcore/garage rock thing.

What else are there?

Decayed Rhapsody 10.21.2010 08:58 PM

Th'Faith Healers were amazing. Saw their reunion show in NYC and they still know how to bring it. I don't know why they're so unsung in their native UK.

Though they suck more often than not, Primal Scream had some good years in the late '80s and early 90s. Never noise, but sometimes noisy. Also, historically inseparable from the very bands you're trying to avoid, so probably not a lot of help. Oh, and they're Scottish.

Napalm Death is noisy as fuck, and definitely not shoegaze.

Kinda blanking. Every band I think of is at least a little JAMC-esque.

There's always Spacemen 3. Again, not noise so much, but noisey. One of the best bands ever.

Severian 06.25.2013 06:21 AM

Oh, yeah, and Fuck Buttons... Absolutely.

chocolate_ladyland 07.04.2013 12:56 AM

Bodychoke. Or Sutcliffe Jugend for that matter.

Seeing as noise-rock is pretty liberally interpreted here... I'd say most of the following are more "psych-rock" rather than "noise-rock" but it's all rock, noisy and recent stuff from the UK that I've been enjoying a lot:

Bristol:

Big Naturals
http://bignaturals.bandcamp.com/

Anthroprophh (=Paul Allen of The Heads)
http://rocketrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/anthroprophh
http://zamzamrec.bandcamp.com/album/-

Glasgow:

The Cosmic Dead
http://thecosmicdead.bandcamp.com/album/inner-sanctum

Pyramidion
http://pyramidion.tumblr.com/
(related: Moon Unit, Lanterns)

Manchester:

Desmadrados Soldados De Ventura
http://featheredcoyoterecords.bandca...album/untitled
(related: Chalaque who blunderbuss mentioned above)

also Gnod who are pretty well known by now.

Newcastle:

Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs
http://pigspigspigspigspigspigspigs.bandcamp.com/

.. plus most stuff that Mike Vest is involved in (Drunk in Hell is the most plain "noise rock" band, but better check out Bong, Haikai No Ku, 11Paranoias, etc.

Drunk In Hell

Haikai No Ku

Bong

pokkeherrie 07.18.2013 06:09 PM

Also... maybe I overlooked, but nobody has mentioned Ramleh in this thread? Their early stuff is pretty much all power electronics, but a lot of their 90's albums/compilations are excellent noise/psych-rock: Homeless, Grudge for Life, Too Many Miles...

Same goes for the upcoming Skullflower re-issues on Dirter (Birthdeath, Form Destroyer, Xaman).

Savage Clone 07.18.2013 08:08 PM

Oh man, the "rock" stuff Ramleh did is so fucking great. Lots of excellent singles. My favorites are "Say Fuck" and "Welcome/Pristine Womankind."
"Eight Ball Corner Pocket" is pretty great too.
