Neal Schon of Journey. Although it was he who reeled himself in for the almighty dollar.

Keith Moon was better than the rest of the group....

Morrissey has achieved more success going solo than he did with The Smiths.

This is another example of argumentum ad populum.

Meat Loaf sells more records than Morrisey.

He has? In what terms -- record sales? Cuz, um, he's released, what, 3 times as many albums as the Smiths, and has been doing the solo thing for, what, 25 years, compared to the Smiths, which was around for like 4.

Yeah, he's sooooooo successful, considering he still gets nothing but people screaming for Smiths songs at his concerts, to which he obliges, playing THERE IS A LIGHT, HAND IN GLOVE, and probably a few more at every show he's ever done.

Morrissey would be nothing, a nobody, without Johnny Marr's band The Smiths.

Jonny Greenwood is a genius.. and so is Thom Yorke/Radiohead
people don't like 'em for other reasons, hype-related & such.

I think Syd Barret was better than Pink Floyd
huh

atsonicpark 05.12.2010 07:47 PM

I dunno, I will politely disagree with Thom being a "genius"; I don't like to use that word often anyway, but Thom's lone solo album is really, really, really bad, imo, even worse than In Rainbows. I'd venture to say that Thom might be the least talented member in that band.

demonrail666 05.12.2010 07:51 PM

Neil Haggerty in Pussy Galore

atsonicpark 05.12.2010 07:52 PM

sure... and I bet your shit don't stink either.

atsonicpark 05.12.2010 07:58 PM

Eh?

I don't like his voice. I like the music. I don't like his solo album. I think, stripped from Johnny Greenwood's interesting contributions, it shows he's just some electronic nerd with a somewhat interesting-if-annoying voice.

Just not a fan of him, sorry.

atsonicpark 05.12.2010 07:59 PM

Another one. I like Deerhoof just fine, but I think Greg is about a billion times better than the rest of the band.

i think he's a great songwriter..and i think his solo album is good (bit boring though and i like bodysong better) .. and i think in rainbows is awesome.. :P
but of course you can disagree..there's nothing wrong about that.

wtf is wrong with his voice? His song writing skills are amazing.

atsonicpark 05.13.2010 03:03 AM

What is wrong with it? I'm not sure. I've been trying to figure that one out! I'm not a fan of that whiney shit. I can tolerate Kid A and Amnesiac, though, mainly cuz his singing is left to a minimum, or ran through a filter. Maybe his skills are amaizng -- I wouldn't know, aren't all the songs contributed to the band as a whole? How do you guys know who wrote what part?

I guess this is a joke...

Morrissey solo has had one hit I think (Everyday is like sunday).

atsonicpark 05.13.2010 05:14 AM

Was Every day is like sunday a hit? I saw the video for Suedehead on VH1 once. HOW SOON IS NOW is probably the biggest Smiths song, it was covered by like 600 bands..

loubarret 05.13.2010 06:17 AM

Many hits(mostly only in the UK and the rest of Europa) and it's quite decent, he had some great albums(viva hate, your arsenal, southpaw grammar and of course bona bragg). His last albums were god dam awful.

And for Marr, The healers album was decent. Never been a fan of we were dead before the ship even sank and the cribs album he plays on is very mediocre.

But it's a better living then being Andy Rourke.

most are written by thom, and when its a particular thing, it always comes up in interviews.. like 'jonny's piano chords sampled on the eraser' 'phil drum loop idea for airbag' the tourist was written by jonny' 'pyramid song is one i wrote in 5 minutes' etc
but his skills are not amazing, it's just a matter of taste really.

atsonicpark 05.13.2010 08:49 PM

interesting.

I love pyramid song btw. Actually, I love all of Kid A and Amnesiac. Great albums.

Have you ever heard Bitchslap/Do Nothing off of Mate, Feed, Kill, Repeat?

It's insanely cool.

The NFL actually used Every Day Is Like Sunday in their promos during the 2008-2009 (American) football season...which I thought was REALLY funny.

As for the topic at hand: I'm surprised no one's mentioned Kim Thayil yet...

atsonicpark 05.16.2010 06:04 AM

joe, i LOVE mate.feed.kill.repeat. Amazing album!
