Is it a legal thing that it has to be at room temperature? Ya weirdos.

The only truly classy way to drink that is IN the convenience store parking lot from a paper bag.

Utah is weird like that too, though the beer here is 3.2 alc by weight which equals 4.0 by volume. Utah has the weirdest liquor laws.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is very very good.

ps rob - tecate!!!

i love this stuff

All I have to say about this:

If I'm not mistaken, you can get Widmer at any 711. That may be a Texas thing, not sure-I don't leave the state often.

Any Sam Adams brew kicks the shit out of any Shiner.

mainstream American beers are shit.

mirrordash, you're flat out racist. get over that, please.

what the fuck-- you need to have a law degree in order to drink in oklahoma? fuck that shit...

reginald 05.30.2008 10:15 AM

This is probably the widest distributed "microbrew" in the US, behind Sam Adams, if you consider them micro. It's a whopping 6.5% ABV and I've found it even in small town grocery stores. It's tasty, much better than Bud, Miller or Coors.

Red Hook IPA

gmku 05.30.2008 11:13 AM

I've wanted to try that but was discouraged by the poor rating on RateBeer.

DNAINTHEDNA 05.30.2008 11:20 AM

anyone have any good local beer they like?

screamingskull 05.30.2008 11:20 AM

THis might seem surprising but there's some not bad beer made in south carolina. In Columbia here, we have Hunter Gatherer, a fairly good brew pub (and actually the ONLY brew pub for miles and miles and miles) that makes really decent strong beer.

There's also the Charleston Brewing Company, which makes some really good pale ale and amber ale (both commonly available for under 8 bucks a sixer in about every store in SC).

There are a number of small breweries in some of the more enlightened towns around here, like Asheville (NC), Greenville (SC), and of course, Charleston.

Savanah (GA) is not too far away and they have some good brew pubs there, too.

yeah.. they don't want you to drive off drinking it.

gmku 05.30.2008 05:29 PM

tonight at Kroger's I bought a six of Brooklyn Brewery's East India Pale Ale. Definitely an above average IPA though it's more of an English style than American, i.e., not quite as hoppy.

Is that true? It would make sense with lagers, but Guinness isn't meant to be drunk cold.

If you're joking, then excuse my gullibility, and I offer a :o .

I've always wanted to try that! I was in NYC last year and didn't see it. Hmmmm....

Oh and that Red Hook IPA, the ratebeer ratings are lousy, but it IS a much better beer than the rating, IMO. For an 'everyday' beer it's good. Pretty hoppy really and potent. It's widely available so thats one thing going for it as this thread is about that. Try it, if you don't like it just chug it and get a really good buzz. :D

I think it is true, but not 100%. You can't buy anything else at a liquor store. Not smokes and certainly nothing to mix booze with...they don't want you mixing a drink on the way home.

Until about 20 years ago, liquor stores could not have names here (made it too novel I suppose). They were only designated by a red sign that said "liquor store". Theyre still up usually, but now they have real store names.

We also used to have other weird things 25+ years ago.. Like having to buy membership at a club in order to drink. We also had weird liquor by the drink laws. I'm not sure how they worked, but it seems like you couldn't buy it by the drink and had to buy whole bottle?? Not sure.

My hangout has a hole in the mens bathroom. It was an escape route for bootlegged liquor during the prohibition. Leads to a tunnel that comes out somewhere. Pretty cool I think. Now it's a gay bar during the day, gay friendly and hipster at night... And open 365 days a year.

Ranger is indeed amazing, you need to try their Winter pack with the RAMPANT IPA and the Abbey Ale.. Fucking BEST New Belgium beers they brew! In fact, I seen a New Belgium IPA variety pack floating around I'm looking to try..

i used to think of fat tire as a cold weather drink so i skipped this summer box a few times but now i know better. btw the 3rd beer is called SUMMER HELLES. yummy.

anyway, i'm going to look for that winter box later in the year then-- thanks for the heads up. viva costco.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 07.27.2014 02:51 PM

I think of Fat Tire as a universal beer.. Its strong enough to be worth your trouble but light enough for session drinking. Its flavorful, but not TOO complex but not too simple. It has enough hops for an IPA fiend like me, but is balanced to regular folks who don't like getting punched in the mouth by hops can enjoy it. A great all around brew.. Now as to their IPAs?? They are top shelf to be sure..

Funny I don't really like "summer seasonal beers" because really they are often just overpriced Pilsners and if I'm drinking a Pilsner lager might as well just get a Rolling Rock ;)

To be sure, that looks like what I like to call American IPA style Pilsner (i.e. extra hops) so it may be good. I really like some Gordon Biersch Czech Pilsner because it was more hopped than a traditional Pilsner lager which gave it that IPA bite I've grown so accustomed too.. I like my beer in the 50s and up on the IBU scale, anything below 50 comes across as flat to me now.

EVOLghost 07.27.2014 03:59 PM

:( haven't been drinking much beer. Wish I could...but it's been messing up with my stomach. ...especially ales. WHICH SUCKS. but oh well...Johnny walker and Jameson are ok with me ^_^

Bullshit, I'm about to drink a 32 of High Life and I'm going pure class, in a beer glass. In fact, I learned years ago the only way to actually be able to drink cheap beer is to pour it in a glass yo

!@#$%! 07.27.2014 06:53 PM

that summer helles is a light refreshing summer beer that almost has the piss smell of corona, but it has soooo much damn flavor for that type of beer, it comes as a huge surprise. i won't touch it once the weather changes, but damn, this is great to drink until the end of august.
