Okay, American Teenage Whore.

Only on my bicycle. Racing is too dangerous in a car or other motor vehicle.

It is possible to break ones reactions to any stimuli down to Categorisation, Stereotyping, and Prejudice. In Lehmans terms they are the 3 stages that one goes through when one learns that grass is green, rain is cold, 1+1 is 2. The thing with people is there isnt so much of a uniform pattern, which creates cognitive dissonance. So if you like noisy music that should ring true to you

i am a little prejudist but try not to really take it into account at all.
|
I'm prejudiced against psychology/ sociology/ philosophy/ linguistics students making sweeping statements then wearing smug faces like they've solved the world.
Strangely, I admire economics students that do the same. |
As a sociologist, I am going to make a sweeping statement: If you haven't actively purged yourself of racism and were born in the United States, then you are probably a racist.
just sayin. |

YEAH. exactly. this guy gets it. |
Fuck man, I hate it when I go to a bar with some friends and a friend of a friend overhears that I'm a philosophy major and asks me "so what is your philosophy on life?" As much as Glice might possibly like the idea that such students bring it on themselves, that kind of smug simplification is often prompted of us.
I don't have a pez-sized answer to all woes and joys. |
Quote:
ha ha ha your "philosophy of life" hilarious. |

I was a philosophy student as well, I'm feeling your pain. I'm also going back to study Theology, so I'm criticising myself as much as anything else. The ones that irk(ed) me most are those who say 'Philosophy, eh? You should read Bruce Lee's book. It's really deep and philosophical, you'd probably like it'. |
when you say racism... we arnt including against blacks are we?

You're in IT, right? If I meet someone socially and their eyes don't glaze over at me mentioning I work with computers it's always "Ah! I've got a problem with my PC - you know when you're in that programme that's got a blue background? Well, there's a funny box comes up - I forget what colour it is - what do you reckon's wrong with my computer? Virus?" |
have you tried rebooting?
:) |
hahahahaha.
i'm afraid to mention to people i'm reading also sprach zarathustra because i might get prompted the twatish questions "are you a nihilist?" or "what's your take on his philosophy". also, when i say what i studied in college i get either of this questions asked "what the fuck did you study that for?" and "is it, like, sales?". i also get the defining answer "you don't look like one". |
at least when people hear i'm studying architecture and say "oh, maybe you can design a house for me!" i can say "sure, what's your budget?" at which point they usually remember that they were never going to hire an architect to design their house in the first place.

Quote:
oh, ha ha, i just realized, you haven't emptied your inbox in ages. yeah this has nothing to do with architecture, but i figured i'd mention it while i have your attention... |
done and done.

oh JESUS CHRIST, i hated reading that book in public. i got "what's a zarathustra" or "you read weird books!" and all sorts of shit. when people ask for my grand scheme in life, i say "well, probably i'm going to study communications and art history and do stuff in advertising or writing or PR", they look at me like a twit for not becoming a lawyer or something puffed up and useless. |
i know nietzsche loved his zarathustra but i hate it-- it's grandiose, juvenile, and silly. beyond good and evil is where it's at.
|
eh, the book kind of "fit" my mindset for a while.
|
i thought Nietzsche loved Cosima Wagner.

sure-- it's just that his serpent and his eagle make me think of some kid playing d&d. |
haha, i pictured my brother every time. it's probably why i got weird looks in the first place.

There may not be much difference
Between Chairman Mao and Richard Nixon If we strip them naked There may not be much difference Between Marilyn Monroe and Lenny Bruce If we check their coffins There may not be much difference Between White House and Hall of People If we count their windows There may not be much difference Between Raquel Welch and Jerry Rubin If we hear their heartbeat We're all water from different rivers That's why it's so easy to meet We're all water in this vast, vast ocean Someday we'll evaporate together There may not be much difference Between Eldrige Cleaver and Queen of England If we bottle their tears There may not be much difference Between Manson and the Pope If we press their smile There may not be much difference Between Rockefeller and you If we hear you sing There may not be much difference Between you and me If we show our dreams We're all water from different rivers That's why it's so easy to meet We're all water in this vast, vast ocean Someday we'll evaporate together What's the difference? What's the difference? There's no difference! There's no difference! What's the difference? |

the reason i don't want to bring it up is because my answer is going to be "it's a very fun book". i get the symbolisms and all that shit but overall, i rather read it like a straight narration of some crazy hermit coot who runs into tons of people who know him and tells them weird shit (not to mention his dr doolittle moments). i see how someone can look at it as the new bible for a new living, "god is dead" and all that shit but i certainly don't feel my beliefs challenged at all. it is an enjoyable book, but if i were to have a conversation with a philosophy major and tell those words to him/her, the response would be "you're an idiot"...actually, i'd love to say that to a philosophy major just to see the irritation on his/her smug face. ...i forgot what else i wanted to write here, i'll post it when i remember. ED: ahh yeah, i remember. to me it's like amateur guemará or talmud stories. |
