My mother raised me a bit on grits. She's originally from Ohio. It's nothing so bad but nothing I miss. Flavored grits are good for camping.
|
Grits eh? Reminds me of a Laurie Anderson spoken word story from New Jersey Turnpike. What, you want me to repeat it? Oh go on then.
"I knew this English guy who was driving around down the South, he stopped at a restaurant and saw grits on the menu, he'd never heard of grits before, so he asked the waitress "What are grits?". The waitress replied "grits are .50". "Yes, but what ARE they?". "Grits are extra". "Yes... I'll have the grits please" |
So ummm... what the hell are grits?
|
grits in the us seem to be what plum pudding is in the uk. nobody knows what it is exactly
|
Are they like Pork scratchings? I bloody love those.
|
grits are these
![]() HOMINY a type of corn you dry them, and grin them up like corn meal and then slow cook them like a porridge/oatmeal http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2095/...fe2dc4.jpg?v=0 |

it's corn processed with an alkali to remove the husk and make the vitamins more absorbable. a genius discovery of american indians-- while italian polenta eaters died of vitamin b deficiency (pelagra) in the XIX century, mexicans were fine eating tortillas 3 times a day http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nixtamalization |
it's corn oatmeal basically.
|
I dig em with cheese and jalapenos

I wasnt inside, but I will check that out. I hope they will got some more US-Snacks you wouldnt get inside germany. its horrible, I really love unhealthy food, but the german law when it comes to food is as hard as it can get, nowhere in europe you can get that small selection of candy, and other sweets, cause they all fail the tests. |
grits are not unhealthy.
