It's a solid list, no surprises, but I couldn't argue much with that, given what I've heard.

Wu tang clan doesn't sound very indie rock, no ?
It's an american rap band.

pantophobia 10.20.2008 06:58 PM

for comparison here is unwound's albums and their vote totals

20 - Unwound - The Future of What : 20
18 - Unwound - Fake Train : 18
14 - Unwound - Repetition : 14
6 - Unwound - New Plastic Ideas : 6

pantophobia 10.20.2008 06:59 PM

i had somewhere in the range of 28 to 30 or so voters, most shared their results in public, but some sent only through PM

Given how well mostly sub-par SY albums have done in the 90's & 00's lists, I hereby predict that the top 5 in the 80's list will be DDN, Sister, Evol, Bad Moon & Confusion. Probably in that order.

Sarcasm? I'm well-aware of Wu-Tang and they deserve a spot on the list for sure. Indie rock? Where did that come from?

Ok, I didn't mean this band has nothing to do on that list. It's just that Mr Ihateyou was complaining about the too many "american teen albums". I mentioned this band to explain him that he was wrong.
End of the story.

Sonic Youth 37 10.20.2008 07:15 PM

Oh, right-o. Play on.

gmku 10.20.2008 07:28 PM

I cannot BELIEVE that Repeater is not listed as the number one album.

Why, if I were half the man I were FIVE years ago, I'd take a FLAMETHROWER to this PLACE!!!

Only 3 syllables worth hearing: Re-Pea-Ter.

gmku 10.20.2008 07:52 PM

1 2 3

Toilet & Bowels 10.20.2008 07:55 PM

i can't believe anyone actually voted for radiohead

gmku 10.20.2008 07:56 PM

You, Sir, are OUT of ORDER!!!

punkaspoo 10.20.2008 08:39 PM

I was pretty sure that Spiderland would be number one

pantophobia 10.20.2008 08:45 PM

in the first few days, i thought so too, then loveless just took off and was unreachable, washing machine did close the gap at the very end

ok computer was in 4th place for a long time too until the last few votes put at action park and atl ahead of it

batreleaser 10.20.2008 09:04 PM

good top 5

davenotdead 10.20.2008 09:23 PM

damnit, i thought vision creation newsun was deemed as a 2000 release?? so i didn't count it.

also, 4 SY albums in the top 10, ahaha

53) Fugazi - Repeater (This most likely deserves better than 53rd place.)

shame on you all

haha

I'm pretty sure Repeater was in my top 10. Don't blame me.

Really surprised that not a single Fugazi album made the top 50. They're one of my favorite bands of the 90s.

atsonicpark 10.20.2008 10:01 PM

Only one thing to say:

Loveless isn't a very good record. In my opinion. But man what a boring record. Should have been called Lifeless. I've said all this before though so I'll stop............

Otherwise, good list! REALLY surprised "Goat" wasn't in the top 10 or something. What a great fucking record. Not surprised that Thinking Fellers wasn't in the list though they should have been. Good to see so many Boredoms albums in there.

Death & the Maiden 10.21.2008 02:59 AM

I only own about five of those albums (some SY and S&E), and none of the ones I would've voted for would have got in.

blunderbuss 10.21.2008 03:03 AM

Pantophobia: When you have five minutes to spare  , please could you add together the scores across all albums for each of the bands featured and give the top ten bands? Obviously SY will be #1, but I'm interested to see who else is in there, and where they come. Ta.

Maybe it's a bit harsh, but I tend to agree wih you concerning Loveless, Adam, I think this album is overrated, it doesn't deserve the 1st position.

The same for Spiderland. I love this album, I really enjoy listening to it, but I can't put it before my favourite Polvo, Pavement, Sonic Youth, Sebadoh... albums on my list, it's inconceivable.

How many indie points did I lose with this sentence, Alien Anal ? :D

weird, i was already thinking about doing that yesterday, i shall get on that after work

greedrex 10.21.2008 10:36 AM

good thread.
bravo.

Derek 10.21.2008 10:40 AM

Spiderland DESERVES to be number one. Loveless doesn't.

radarmaker 10.21.2008 11:19 AM

"Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man..."

[Sandbag] 10.21.2008 11:51 AM

well.. Loveless is a helluva record... so i guess it deserves nș1... :D

SYRFox 10.21.2008 12:43 PM

This list seriously lacks some Soulja Boy

atsonicpark 10.21.2008 12:48 PM

Yeah I agree with Derek. Spiderland is an amazing record. It deserves all the love it can get. I'd have sex with the worst part of that album before kissing the best part of Loveless on the cheek.

gmku 10.21.2008 12:52 PM

Loveless is hands down the best album of the 90s... right after Repeater.

There. I said it.

haha it is a fuckin good album indeed

Glice 10.21.2008 01:21 PM

So I'm presuming that Me, Herr & Bowels, Nefeli and probably Porky voted Fushitsusha highly - No-one else went for Pathetique? No-one else nominated NNCK's Letters from the Earth?

I'm pleased to see ATR's The Future of War in there, though I suspect without my ranking it wouldn't've featured.

Anyway. Insert usual scathing comment about you all having cloth-ears.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 10.21.2008 01:31 PM

Over all I thought it was a good list. Wish I voted

greedrex 10.21.2008 02:24 PM

no MC Hammer?
Dudes you disppoint me; look:

or Vanilla Ice anyone?

SYRFox 10.21.2008 02:35 PM

No Reel 2 Real?? What were you guys thinking ??
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBnkJQWe0JQ

davenotdead 10.21.2008 03:12 PM

i just realized there's no aphex twin on this list. wtf guyz?

[Sandbag] 10.21.2008 03:17 PM

ye, thought about it, but it didnt make it on my list.. :P
what would you pick?

davenotdead 10.21.2008 03:18 PM

richard d james was #3 on my list

i could take x and wear 90s clothing and listen to that for hours on end

HECKLER SPRAY 10.21.2008 04:26 PM

And the Beastie Boys ? Rage Against the Machine ?
Blur ? Oasis ? The Spice Girls ?....
Why Not ?

uhler 10.21.2008 04:38 PM

i should have voted. i would've voted for every discount album that was released in the 90's and that's it. they still wouldn't have made it in the top 60 though.
