i thought nurse was their last great album and then a thousand leaves before that. |
You're a bunch of sonic haters.
fuck fuck fuck. |
bahaha.
nice parody reply. |
it's not a parody reply.
i think that ALL sonic Lps range from good to excellicious to a certain extent. And since you're here, although you do fookin' rule, i hate it when you say an LP is "decent". What the fuck. You sound like a warner bros A&R hahahahaha. |
Murray is fucking excellent! What are you lot on about?
Sympathy for the Strawberry, Karen, Radical Adults, Rain on Tin, Plastic Sun. end of. Rather Ripped has got a shit title but other than that i like it |
Just because I like (or love) a band doesn't mean I like all their records. I'm completely unbiased. Sure, as a natural human tendency, I might overlook some flaws on a record if I really love a band, I might try harder to see the good side of things.
Rather Ripped is an awful record. |
Quote:
wrong (except for 1k leaves is great) |
rather ripped is an OK album but might be the worse from SY, sorry...
|
Its them experimenting a pop format...
Whats the problem? |
I just think it is time for thurston to stop wtriting songs on acoustic guitar.
fuck the folk. |

Strange take. I dont agree. I like this phase. I mean, out of MURRAY ST, SONIC NURSE, RR and TREES I like RR the least. But it sounds good. And I like the songwriting on all those albums. |
Quote:
In Rainbows sucks. popish. and I like them less after this, and for their stupid behaviour. they recorded only one album that counts Kid A. |
Its just what comes out. Nothing more than that...It is not as conscious as you think...

Wow, I really have to disagree Mil. I mean, AMNESIAC is like a way better version of KID A. And OK COMPUTER, THE BENDS and IN RAINBOWS are all fantastic. |
I like Amnesiac too, but it's like half album that is listenable.
Ok Computer is good, but not the best record of the last 25 years, so I don't rate it so high. The Bends same as Amnesiac, only half album. and In Rainbows, is just better than Hail to the Thief, not fenomenal. and for Rather Ripped one more word, it's good album, but not that good. but I hate when people are sayin' : "oh, it's so commercial, oh.. how could they record that?!" (and most of that people are listening Radiohead) you know what I mean? |
commercial or not, i hate rr simply because it's shite.
|
I remember reading an interview with T that said that RR was really inspired by tween shiz that Coco was into. I dnt know. It seems like an interesting idea, really. It's not THAT far removed from the Ciccone Youth concept. Maybe people will "get" RR 10 years from now and appreciate it more.
|
again
radiohead wanted a different approach to their music for In Rainbows, an approach that it is not what i like from them. (because kid a, httt, and amnesiac is what i like from them) same with sonic youth, they knew what they wanted for RR, otherwise they wouldnt have released it. maybe it was like a bunch of pop summer songs to say goodbye to the label or whatever it was... thing is, 'that' approach to music its not what i like from them. (noise, experimentation, improvisation, etc its what i like from them) still i rate in rainbows and rather ripped as good albums. |
fuck radiohead, rather listen to the bad seeds myself.
|
I thought that you had said it was the end of the thread earlier.
|
Aye! Rather Ripped I think is pretty darn awesome. Pink Steam is a beautiful track. When I heard that live I was just blown away. I mean before that I was really into Reena and Incinerate.

I'll take 3 more albums that sound like RR than anything that sounds like Ciccone Youth. |

no! the acoustic is the best thing sonic ever did! Now the tunes have musical qualities! That is why I love post-1000 leaves era the most. I was at This Aint not Picnic when all their gear got jacked, and I could never have imagined that day that it would be the greatest blessing in disguise.. |

Rob have right.

RR is without any doubt SY's least good LP (it don't say "worse" on purpose).
It's just that saying it's awful doesn't make sense to me (sorry Adam) as it tops so many good Lps that were issued that same year. It makes sense to say that everybody has an opinion and can express it; no prob; but it also makes sense to say that although it's far from the best, it's still a "nice" LP. But for some people nice is not enough and i can understand that. LET's AGREE TO DISAGREE!!!!! |
I think thurston writing all his songson an acoustic guitaris exactly why Murray and RR sound so goddamn NORMAL, and normal to me is derogatory when to comes to music. The songs are good, and I rock to them (RR more than Murray cuz Murray is for naptime at the convalescent home) but they are not what I love about SY. I want to hear electricity, noise, feedback, soundscapes, riffs that sound like blenders, fuck, all that shit. Murray street and RR are the only teo albums my g/f likes and all she likes are shit slow jams, sade, amy winehouse, billy holliday, tony bennett, and passive shit like that.
|
and EJST&NS is their worst album by FAR
|

and i actually agree with you on the Thurston on acoustic thing, even if we're talking open tuning, it still sounds alot tamer yes. |
This thread is borderline trollsville.

I like 'em all anyway so i'm not trying to judge which one is the best or the least. waste of time. I can appreciate the inner qualities of each regular LP. but once again i can see why people keep on dissing RR and Experimental.they're "lighter" records which is fine by me but is not enough for most of you. I say we're lucky they're still releasing new LPs at all. cheer up!!!! |

hah |

Agreed. Throughout the years, every single album has at one point or another made me exclaim "Oh my God, I love this album!" for one reason or another. |
4 pages? Jesus.

Perhaps this makes me a piss-stained fanboy, but meh, so be it. |

5 pages soon though.

Quote:
so how does that explain NYC Ghosts and Flowers and Sonic Nurse? those were also written on acoustics. |
Quote:
cause that's fucking weird if it is so. |
Quote:
That isn't what I've read. NYC Ghosts & Flowers was mostly the product of the band jamming extensively at Echo Canyon. It's the studio album that came out as a product of the first few SYRs and most of the songs the band had taken out and played live before there were even vocal tracks for them. |
