actually - it was a really big deal when we elected our first Irish Catholic president with JFK - and a big to do was made about it back in the day.

A big deal was being made about Lieberman being chosen as Gore's running mate back in 2000 because he's Jewish.

A little deal was made when Nancy Pelosi was named Speaker of the House because of her Italian Catholic background and a biggish deal was made because of her gender.

These things are big deals to a lot of people. - As an Italian American I was pretty darned psyched when Pelosi was made House Speaker.
