Exactly.
Brooklyn isn't a real place. |

No, you can't. But I'm willing to exercise a leap of faith in order to believe that you do. After all, I have more reason to believe that you do exist, than that you don't. The consequences of me thinking that you're merely a figment of my imagination would be too grave for me to anything other than just dissolve into inertia and/or mental collapse. |
I exist on the best terms i can

I'd prefer not to. I like Magritte, though. Nice painting. |

if I answer "no", do I still have to prove it?

![]() you sir, have gotten the brass ring. ![]() believing you exist is a leap of faith. faith is the central tenant of life, as the Apostle Paul explains, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." |
Are you asking me?
|
I don't exist but I don't not exist.
What I perceive to be me is not who I am and what I perceive to be the world is not what it is. All of this is proven as time goes by and things, people, and myself change in ways that I do not expect. |
Put it this way: If I don't exist, than there is a good chance you don't either. Therefore, I feel no need to make a fool of myself trying to prove something to somebody who doesn't even exist.
|
Some people relate to me despite a lack of any attempt on my part to relate to them. Yesterday, I got a phone call from a man I've never met to ask me for a donation to my school's senior gift. If "to exist" could be defined so narrowly as an engagement in the comings and goings in this web of relationships that consist of this world, than yes I exist. You can't ask question of that which does not exist, nor could you really say anything of it all. Even a fictional construct of the mind exists in so far as it is a construct of the mind.

I don't exist.

I exist very much.
|
only part of me still exists
|
We all "exist."
Even if 90% of you were actually bots, programs running on some machine, that program EXISTS. and so does the machine. the real question is do our ephemeral thoughts and ideas "EXIST"? that is the mindfuck. I exist, but to prove existance is nigh impossible, unless i am right next to you and can sock you in the face, so you can experience my existance. (not that I want to smack you in the face...) |
Speculative metaphysics is a bit like AIDS - it's shit and it kills you, why bother getting involved in it?
|
"Speculative Metaphysics" is the height of redundancy
like saying "fake god" or "Beck Sucks." we are all guilty! (I love when fugazi play that freaky oceanic riff right after they scream GUILTY!) |
^^^ha ha yeah i endorse Rob's last post.
