favorite EP is probably GET OUT OF MY STATIONS -- but the reissue with live tracks.

according to the GBV book Bob has a huge suitcase filled entirely with cassettes of unreleased material some of which goes back to the early 80s and this is where all the stuff on the suitcase boxsets comes from |
that's true. Which is why the series is called... wait for it... Suitcase. :)
|
just get Hardcore UFOs and call it a day.
|
meh
|
you like the band but frown on the box set??!
|
no I frown about just getting one item and calling it a day.
|
it's a big box. you can always try again tomorrow.
|
True. True.
|
GBV have 5 boxsets now, are there any bands who have done more?
Over the weekend I might upload the first Acid Ranch LP (if I can find my mp3s of it) |
cool I never got Acid Ranch.
yeah there's Box, Suitcase, Suitcase 2, Hardcore UFO's... and then were you referring to Suitcase 3 or am I forgetting one? |

Cool ! It would be awesome, I would really like to hear some Acid Ranch  |
Sandbox doesn't get enough love. Fucking love that record.

REPUTATION ! I'm so happy to see someone say that. This is one of their best records and I consider it to be the most underrated album EVER ! |

Is that the one that has "Liar's Tale?" Great song. |
Nah. That's Self-Inflicted Aerial Nostalgia.
Good record though, An Earful O' Wax is my favorite from it. |
King Shit & The Golden Boys has some good track as well.
|
Well, EVERY GBV release has some good stuff on it, some records are just better than others.
It's amazing just how much he writes yet still how consistent he is. ~Jeremy~ |
Gotta disagree there, Jeremy. It's amazing how much he writes. That's for sure. But he's not consistent. I mean he was in the golden-era of Matador albums. But really, the seven million albums are more about being fun to collect than they are about being consistently good from start to finish.

Actually with further thought I take my post back and agree more with you. Some his records, while not bad, are records I'll listen to maybe a couple more times. Combine with the fact that I don't really like the later GBV records as much outside of some stuff here in there..... .... Eitherway the guy still writes tons. That at the least still makes me go coo-coo for cocoa puffs. ~Jeremy~ |
Please Do Post Some Acid Ranch!!
|
like i said, i will if i can find the mp3s, but i won't have time to look for them before the weekend
|
So... What about those Acid Ranch MP3's ? I've got an album on my computer if you guys want !
|
I thougth of another really rare one I have: Smegma & Antler's THE TROPIC OF NIPPLES.
|
Oh yeah, I see what it is but I have never heard it, how is it ?
|
it's awful.
|
Haha, well sometimes it's just hit or miss with Mr. Pollard, especially his solo stuff.
|
the problem with that one is that it's like stupid beat-poetry bullshit with Richard Meltzer. It's really aimless and pretentious and lousy.
SUPERMAN WAS A ROCKER is great BTW. He took instrumentals recorded with GBV (!!!!!) that were never done and added vocals. So it's basically a lost GBV album. I like it a lot. |
Oh, awesome ! I'll give it a try one of these days !
|
a mate is in a GBV tribute band in dublin...
they are called Voided By Ponces....they are prety damn good! here is glad girls...... and i am a scientist |
Quote:
Woah dude ! I watched their video of "Over the Neptune/Mesh Gear Fox" on youtube the other day :D They're pretty good ! |
I dont think I "get" cover bands.
|
I didn't even understand the greatness of GBV until I was 20 or so. It clicked one night when I put on "Alien Lanes". Been one of my favorite bands ever since.
|
Alien Lanes is incredible.
|
Alien Lanes is my favorite GBV album (and my second favorite album of all time).
My top would be : 1. Alien Lanes 2. Bee Thousand 3. Propeller 4. Sandbox 5. Under the Bushes Under the Stars 6. Same Place the Fly Got Smashed 7. Mag Earwhig! 8. Half Smiles of the Decomposed 9. Do the Collapse 10. Devil Between My Toes 11. Earthquake Glue 12. Universal Truths & Cycles 13. Vampire on Titus 14. Self-Inflicted Aeriel Nostalgia 15. Isolation Drills EPs: 1. Forever Since Breakfast 2. Static Airplane Jive 3. Wish in One Hand... 4. The Pipe Dreams of Instant Prince Whippet 5. Fast Japanese Spin Cycle 6. The Grand Hour 7. I Am a Scientist 8. Plantations of Pale Pink 9. Clown Prince of the Menthol Trailer I probably forgot some though. |
GBV are pretty much perfect in their own way. Robert Pollard is an absolute genius.
Favorite LP from them: Under The Bushes Under The Stars Favorite EP from them: Sunfish Holy Breakfast Can't wait to see them in October for Matador at 21. ~Jeremy~ |

I hope you realize how lucky you are :( I really hope they'll do a European tour after the American one... |
i never liked gbv and its not as though i havnt listened to them or seen them live. they just seem a bit, well bland for my ears.
|
Quote:
Oh, totally. I wouldn't miss it for the world (I hope I didn't just jinx it and I get sick the day of the concerts). I'm sure they'll do a big tour for this thing... Hopefully you'll get your chance to see 'em live. ~Jeremy~ |
I really, really like Devil Between My Toes. I'm surprised it's not a favorite around here. I wish I were more familiar with a larger percentage of their discography.
