For those in London

Koenig Books at 80 Charing Cross Road have this in stock I just bought mine £58.

I dare say The Serpentine Gallery have it in stock also.

tesla69 01.22.2009 04:37 PM

I guess we in the States have to wait for the shipping container to cross the Atlantic and arrive in Newark.

Thanks for the tip off Sir Paul will duly investigate further...

I now have my grubby hands on a copy... and what a beautiful monster it is. This tome is packed full of information and visuals... and is well worth the money in my opinion. I have always been fascinated/inspired/intrigued by SY's use of the visual image and this book is a total wet dream for someone who has been following their every move since the early 80's. There are also decent length interviews with each member of the band which I can't wait to devour over the next few days.
Steve's 7" side is an excerpt from a sweet Sonic jam (Recorded by Cody Ranaldo), Thurston's side is pure squall and scree, Kim's side is the vocal from the Reverse Karaoke installation, and Lee's side is a stripped down demo of Rats, which is very different from the Rather Ripped incarnation and at this point I think I prefer it.

All I need to do now is see the exhibition!.

Go forth Sonic buddies and spend, SPEND.

radical adult 01.25.2009 05:40 AM

Is there really a german (or french) version out there? I don't think that this would make sense - even kraut as I am I prefer to read the original text... because the specific "sound" of the pieces, interviews ... would get lost in translation.

I bought mine in the deichtorhallen Hamburg.

It's wonderful. The format, the paper, the arrangement. It's nearly perfect. A book, a fetish, an object and an endless spring of sonic information.

Even my wife (I took her some months ago to the sy-concert in wiesbaden) slowly seems to understand my obsession for sy. I mean, even here in Hamburg you can draw lines to the sy-universe (the dan graham-pavillon for an example).

greedrex 01.25.2009 05:42 AM

stu did you order it from that german site?

stu666 01.30.2009 11:41 AM

yes straight from the publisher, i got an order confirmation straight away and was waiting for the total price including postage to be confirmed, but it arrived today. even though it was expensive this way i'd definitly say it's worth it.

greenlight 01.30.2009 12:10 PM

I don't know if to buy it from there or wait for amazon...., no clue when on site in german, hehe.

by the way, that PM of yours.....You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to stu666 again.

hey, what's with the different versions of the book : the 720 pages Verlag der Buchhandlung König german(/english ?) edition http://www.buchhandlung-walther-koen...865605397.aspx and the 856 pages presses du réel french/english edition http://www.lespressesdureel.com/EN/ouvrage.php?id=1382, any clue ?

nicfit 01.30.2009 03:17 PM

Well, I'll order a copy as soon as it's available, then I'll be able to tell you. I want another 2 copies, so I guess it's worth to order one from them and check the differences (if there are actual differences, sounds a bit weird to me..)

al shabbray 01.30.2009 03:24 PM

misspelling
I dont think there 2 near-the-same-versions

Moshe 02.01.2009 01:56 PM

All you need to know about the book:

the book has been published in an edition of approximately 2000 english copies, of which 1000 are being distributed/sold in europe through walther könig and 800 were bought by the malmö konsthall, which will be the next venue for the show. the other copies are for artists in and lenders to the show and for promotion etc.

the vast amount of facsimiles (in english, of course) are translated in separate inserts in the other language versions, while other texts that don't feature as facsimiles in the book are translated straight into the edition's language. this way the german/english, french/english and italian/english versions DO NOT contain all text material in english. however, all versions have the 2 7" vinyl discs with unpublished material, among which a rehearsal for the forthcoming album.
Hpefully there will be a reprint as soon as the initial 1800 copies are sold.

mklllr 02.01.2009 03:16 PM

thanx moshe fr clarification! I knew you'd know. so you're positive the walter konig version (http://www.amazon.de/Sonic-Youth-etc...8683947&sr=8-1) is english only and free of any german text, right ?

greedrex 02.01.2009 05:08 PM
