I can rearrange cheap, tatty furniture in a room to make it look nicer.

I have no talent. Quite possibly I hold negative-talent.

Not only that, but I'd terrified I'd get so into it that i'd do lifts and start hooping around the neck and catch all my hair on fire or sthg.

I've thought about buying an LED hoop but they are just so.. raver. Fire and kero stench with blackened arms is where its at.

I'd really like to learn ermm.. meteor I guess it's called. the rope with knots, kind of between staff and poi. Fire in that looks really awesome.

I bought the hoop off my friend who was moving to San Diego. It needs to be re-wicked which is kinda a bitch but I'm sure I'll find somebody in the DC/Baltimore/NYC area who can do that.

Twirling fire is so cool!

changing over shouldn't be too hard, should probably be able to do it yrself. most of them are just bolted/screwed through. it's buying the new kevlar that is expensive :(

how far gone is it? even if they are black and wearing that's fine and normal.. unless there is nothing left of it at all....

i'm not quite sure. my friend had two hoops. he sold me the one that needs me to re-wicked for $50 (which is pretty cheep). i have yet to see it (my other friend is holding onto it right now) but i know that he would not rip me off.

notyourfiend 09.10.2009 09:39 AM

maybe it will convince me to stop smoking.

highly unlikely but still...

Glice 09.10.2009 09:48 AM

My opinion hasn't really changed since this thread, except to say that I now consider it so blindingly self-evident it's hardly worth saying. But you now have a link for your own delectation.

Frau Fiend - what is you sig pic from? It's been captivating me with every post of yours.

terriblecanyons 09.10.2009 09:50 AM

I can make a mean grilled cheese.

And my cookies are fantabulous.

My sig is a picture of Japanese butoh dancers. Butoh is essentially a form of performance art that originated in Japan after WWII to tackle the contemporay issues that were considered too taboo to discuss. I'm not really an expert on the subject, but there is a good amount of information about butoh on the internet if you are interested.

Glice 09.10.2009 10:04 AM

I went out with a girl that was studying Butoh actually. It's very interesting, but I wonder if its time has passed now.

I honestly would not know. I'm not expert. My gf's younger brother however is studying Japanese culture in college. He might know something about the current state of butoh.

I need to read something on contemporary dance actually. It's one of those areas where I should definitely know more but am just a void of proper knowledge. Same with architecture.

no no, not saying he would rip you off, just that you might not even need to actually replace it yet. $50 is fine as long as all the welds/parts(depending on how it's made) are still okay and the thing has been looked after. They can be close to $300 to buy or have made if you don't know a metal worker. $200 US I guess.

I am surrounded by it and still find it really uninteresting. I have respect, because I know how much training can go into it. But still, meh.

I am also surrounded by it. I personally hate dancing but that is another story.

I think that I just need to fix the wick, I'm not sure though. Oh well, I'll check when I pick the hoop up.
