I can appreciate Bob Dylan and his importance and influence etc, but when it comes down to it I honestly only truly enjoy two songs of his out of everything I have heard, which is a goddamned ton. I'm sorry, but with singer/songwriters it comes down to the voice most of the time, and I HATE his voice. A lot.

Butthole Surfers on the other hand are a band I love, if only up to and including Hairway To Steven. They also did a lot of music I hate after that, but the ratio of love:hate is far better for me personally regarding the Butthole Surfers.

ok, i'll have to clarify, i like his early stuff, some of the best songs written in the 60's, for sure. but most of the stuff he did after that is just plain boring, too self righteous, egotistical, self indulgent and half assed. "like a rolling stone" is a good song but does it have to last for 6-plus minutes?! it should have lasted for half of that. if he is really the greatest singer/songwriter ever, then why would he make such repetitive and over-indulgent songs?

again, i don't hate him, in fact, i hardly think of him, but it irks me that every person who knows jackshit about music and every person who does know about music feels the need to whip out their "authorized music listener" license by saying dylan is the best there has ever been when that's short sighted.

and as i said, the buttholes were fun, scary, contrarian, funny and downright innovative and creative. i have a better time listening to EARLY buttholes, whereas EARLY dylan i have to really be in the mood to listen to him.

i prefer jack rose and no trend anyway.

I like 'em both....for different reasons.....THe BH Surfers rocked my world at a show outside Boston in about '92-'93 with the Stone Temple Pilots and The Flaming Lips. I even like their 'commercial' disc....Independent Worm Saloon.

You a Zappa fan too, ehh ? I've been into his music since about 1973-74. Saw his bands in '74, '75 and '76 and even have the recording of the '74 show. I haven't checked out all the pages of the various threads, obviously, I've just joined. Maybe we should start a Zappa thread. Haven't seen one yet.....

I thought the best title of a Butthole Surfer album was their 'Neurotic Arseholes'.......way back in the early 80s.....great title.....:D

Niiiice. Yeah man I love Zappa. I got into them from my friend/bandmates older brother when I was like 12....just around the time I started to listen to SY. Freak Out, WOIIFTM, Hot Rats.....shit blew my mind. Everything up to Apostrophe is pure gold to me.
