Scorpio Rising

The Boo Radleys were a shoegazing band? That's news to me.
And what about Sweet Jesus? They were a good band for the three minutes that they existed.
How about Th' Faith Healers?
I know they're not really shoegazer like MBV or Ride. But damn, I was listening to their Peel Sessions the other night, and wow, there are moments where they can be downright hypnotic. They're like the Pixies on ecstacy or something. It's cool, it's cool, it's cool in a hippy hole. Filled with smoke, Look at the flowers, Try some of this, Shit for hours... |
Swervedriver's Mezcal Head is a masterpiece.I play that album a lot.
Sultans of swing anyone?
Carter Unstoppable Sex Machine with your fries? |
Would you sir like Drop Nineteen with your main course?
Did i hear Adorable there?
No?Seefeel?
Could you pass me some Chapterhouse please?
Spacemen 3 and Loop and Seefeel I consider Dream Pop, so that's why they're not up there. I just forgot to put the Twins up there. The Mary Chain is in essence Noise Pop but they are pretty much the jumping off point of shoegaze.
Lali Puna then.
How about lovesliescrushing?
Who are they?
Mid-90s shoegaze from Arizona. Like MBV but more electronic sounding. Just two people.
I'll check them out if you'd care to kindly up them.Seefeel were one of the bands that were mentioned in the (in)famous article by Simon Reynolds that coined the term post-rock.Main were another one. It's bizarre how that term went on to describe a totally different genre of music.
I would kindly upload them but I have been having trouble tracking down the album.
I know one of those loveliescrushing people. Top guy! Great project too.
The Lilys had an album called "In The Presence Of Nothing" back then that was a pretty fantastic MBV-styled record. They didn't stick with that sound for long, but that album is a keeper! |

Alright, another vote for Ride!
As for first album, Nowhere is a good place to go to begin. Lots of swirly guitar and distant vocals...very good stuff. My personal favorite is Going Blank Again, but Smile, the album that combines their first two EPs, is excellent too. Actually, this kept me company on my hour drive to work this morning. Fun fact: The CD of Smile is mastered from the vinyl of the original EPs, while the EPs, if bought separately, are just mastered normally. Interesting. |
I can't believe there are only 2 votes for Slowdive who really is the most shoegaze out of all those bands and one of the finest ever!! Nothing against the others :)
I would also add bands like Low, La Bradford (more of an evolved shoegaze which shoegaze was defined by a time period much like grunge), Bedhead etc. Even terms like Spacerock kinda bleed across that category but maybe they rocked a bit more, dunno, even though I wouldn't even put MBV quite as spacerock....... Musical categories fit much better back in the day and nowadays I can't classify anything :) |
I had to vote for My Bloody Valentine. Simply because Galaxy 500 wasn't on the list!!!!!!

YES! It's been so long I'm out of touch...Galaxie 500 is a perfect example!! |

Jim Reid is one of the coolest people ever. But they do seem to be staring at their shoes quite a bit. |
my favorite:
My Bloody Valentine Second Favorite: Lush |

The Jesus and Mary Chain were a better band, but I think that My Bloody Valentine could hold their own against them. Give them a good run for their money. |
