All of my CD's, vinyl, DVD's, cassettes, CD-R's, VHS and V-CD's are catalogued on Rate Your Music. I have rated all but about 60 or 70 items...I think I have about 1438 music-related items.

Toilet & Bowels 07.27.2006 07:07 PM

only about 7 of my haino records would be tricky to replace i think. but replacing them would be a total bitch, i'd have to spend my life trawling ebay.

Iain 07.27.2006 07:36 PM

Fuck no. Mine used to be in alphabetical order but that went out of the window about 3 house moves ago. My current system is basically what I am listening to at the moment in big piles on my desk, some stuff in a cd wallet case thing, some in a big plastic box and the rest (mostly cdrs in thin slipcases) in shoeboxes.

Toilet & Bowels 07.27.2006 07:56 PM

i have 1300 or so alphabetised in ringbinders in my house, and another couple of hundred older things that i don't listen to anymore in a cupboard at my mum's house. i don't have space for 1500 CD cases in my house.

EMMAh 07.27.2006 08:08 PM

Though about doing it only I'm too lazy and disorganized.
My grandparents have all their movies listed in this catalog type thing, organized by genre. They're all movies they've taped off TV over the years too, which sucks because you can't buy tapes like anywhere anymore.

Everyneurotic 07.27.2006 09:00 PM

i sure as hell do!!!

i don't ever want to find myself in a situation where i go "didn't i have this record already?"

i value that shit so much, i would hate me if i lose any tape or cd-r, let alone vinyl.

and it's not for the collector's value, i don't like collecting ugly stamps just because they are on a limited run.

but my shelves are fucked, bands and related are together and in chronological order, but they are just randomly there.

i can't imagine imagine i'd ever accidentally buy a record twice, if that's what you mean.

Cantankerous 07.27.2006 09:18 PM

basically since i file records all day 6 days a week (tomorrow's my day off, thank god) and i have so many i can't be assed to do such tedious work.

i meant it as losing a record, losing sight of it and not being able to find it when i know i had bought it.

You obviously don't have enough records then. ;)

Cantankerous 07.27.2006 10:00 PM

if it's on colored vinyl i will buy every color they pressed. otherwise, no.

golden child 07.27.2006 10:05 PM

Everyneurotic 07.27.2006 10:07 PM

Alex's Trip 07.27.2006 10:12 PM

golden child 07.27.2006 10:17 PM

but i have to keep inventory for my mailorder... stock is low now but i just ordered about 300 dollars worth of shit.

narlus 07.27.2006 10:28 PM

i have a large excel file for my mp3s...which contain all my cds, and other, er, stuff. i don't have a catalog of my vinyl or tape-only releases.

terminal pharmacy 07.27.2006 11:25 PM

i keep all mine listed and always updating for insurance purposes, have my collection insured seperately

The 97th Hammer 07.28.2006 12:41 AM

My LP collection is somewhat alphabetized and my CD collection is onlly organized by artist. I'll probably clean it up properly after I move.

Norma J 07.28.2006 12:49 AM

For insurance purposes, everyone should be.

toxic johnny 07.28.2006 02:22 AM

I really need to catalogue my collection... oh fuck I can feel another obsession coming on...

Toilet & Bowels 07.28.2006 07:42 AM

That's why when I get round to doing my list I'll back it up onto disk.

Savage Clone 07.28.2006 08:04 AM

That's the thing.
If I had a fire, I would have to make sure the info was stored elsewhere because my computer would probably burn too.

atari 2600 07.28.2006 08:23 AM

I have little to (in some cases) no organization & as a result am seemingly always wondering if I have something or not when it comes to bootleg downloads.

I can usually find things fairly quickly though because I generally have a handle on where everything is, but sometimes it gets tough with Sonic Youth especially, because there are stacks & stacks & also a few spindles worth that I haven't even made cases for & so forth.

& that constant process of making cases & such always seems to keep me from getting to the task of documenting everything.

It was pleasant to read that I'm in the same boat on this as mostly everyone else heh.

lps I have in alphabetical order, but I think I may have to sell them all off soon.

interesting. I have most of mine catalogued there, too. It's pretty convenient. But the trouble there, I've found, is there's no good way to keep track when you've got more than one copy, a copy on vinyl and cd, extras on colored vinyl, etc.

I was thinking about insuring my cd collection. I'll do it when I move out. A list will be made there and then.

soniknirve 07.28.2006 11:37 AM

bowie, cash, coltrane, lennon, o'rourke: are these artists filed by their first or last names?

h8kurdt 07.28.2006 11:38 AM

Last

soniknirve 07.28.2006 11:41 AM

k thx. i'm gonna try to do this when i get some free time...

k-krack 07.28.2006 11:52 AM

i do make a lsit on paper every couple of months, and i try to update it, but its too hard trying to keep it all in alphabetical/chronological when you have to write in new things every week...

golden child 07.28.2006 12:24 PM

i keep a list of bootlegs to, for trading purposes... i was just thinking this morning though, its not up to date so it looks like a got work to do.

Vexing.
I put it under Xasthur because I had other Xasthur stuff.

I'd just put it under which band I liked the best.

Not a chance with that particular album. It's an absolute blinder, and both sides complement each other beautifully. I need more Nortt. Nocturnal Poisoning is probably my favourite 'new' purchase of the last year or so.

golden child 07.28.2006 03:33 PM

put it under both

Savage Clone 07.28.2006 07:15 PM

Full concurrence with Glice re: the blinding awesomeness of that split LP.
