MYZERY
- All I Know Iz Pain http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnvGnLZcHdg

WHEN ASKED ABOUT MYZERY,
VIOLENT J SAID:

"Myzery is a rapper that my brother brought to Psychopathic. My brother has family in the Bronx and thats how he met Nay Nay. I always had the feeling that Myzery thought our music was wack. It seemed like he just wanted to get his break so he hung out. It seemed like he thought the Dark Carnival was a joke. Then I got to know him more and more and that feeling went away. He never truly believed in it though. I even showed him the Dark Carnival's magic in our studio and he thought it was a trick! I only show my best friends that shit too.
He's a cool mother fucker though. He gets mad skins. Like 5 times more than he should. Every bitch loves him. He looks like Tupac with his headband on. Him, and his homie Ponch are the shit. They are very quiet about things. You never know what there thinking. They sort of let us know without saying it that they wanted out of Psychopathic Records.
See, Psychopathic is into some bizarre shit and it has that reputation. Myzery is more into New York raps. Even though the shit we say is our reality, it aint theirs. They come from another place, and they are just into different shit than us. They toured with us twice. He dropped an EP on Psychopathic, and it's still out. I dont think they liked our ideas. They said our crowd wasnt their crowd. As for me, I dont give a fuck! Any crowd is my kind of crowd as long as they some Juggalos!!! But they just stressed that they wanted to get a bigger hip hop, rap only crowd. Hangin' around with us was killing that for them I think. Myzery went back to New York to try some other avenues. We stop over and hang when we come through New York. My brother is really close with his family. I wish that ninja and his homie Poncho mad luck out there."

last night i went to a Levellers gig in Brixton.

The Wonder Stuff were supporting (they had the drummer from Pop Will Eat Itself on drums)

it was awsome (ish)

Glice 03.20.2011 07:13 AM

Wow. Good to hear the Stuffies are back. Shame the Levellers never went away.

Welcome to the cheap seats indeed

nicfit 03.20.2011 08:11 AM

My vitriol, argh, the old bassist...
Lift to experience, eeeeh!!!
Uhm...

Except for some lame (in retrospect) italian "indie" bands I must say my tastes have been pretty consistent in time, perhaps Elbow qualify, even if I still love Bitten by the tailfly

_slavo_ 03.20.2011 09:55 AM

Carter USM, anyone?

Oh God, how I loved that band for about a year or so when I was at highschool

Yeah me too!

wills123 03.20.2011 11:03 AM

Most of the bands mentioned in this thread always seemed to be featured on the free cds that used to be given away with the NME - like One Lady Owner who were signed to Creation

I was amused to note that they were #1 in the NME's list of Embarrassments Of The Year in whatever year they had their 15 seconds of recognition.

My standard response to these threads: Whipping Boy. Always had a soft spot for them even though they did veer a little to close to the "actually a bit crap" line pretty often...

radarmaker 03.21.2011 07:58 AM

oh, and "Yes" to everyone in the orginal post.
Didn't Ultrasound reform recently? Tiny had another band on the go up here a few years back. Weren't much cop though.

Torn Curtain 03.22.2011 06:36 AM

Pearl Jam
RHCP
Pavement

EDIT: I'm actually off topic with those bands but nevermind.

Genteel Death 03.22.2011 02:57 PM

I saw The Darling Buds' name on a poster outside a venue in central London, recently, which means that if God really exists he must have shit taste in music.

Now, they were not a timeless band, but this next band did make some sounds that resonate with my teenage years

The Darkside. really. I'm offended.

Savage Clone 03.24.2011 02:33 PM

Hey, they're one of my favorite bands ever. Why do you think I put them in here?

I'll add this gem of a 12inch to the pile. One of the greatest records ever made, and only three songs! Two selections below.

BIRDMEN OF ALKATRAZ, from Italy:

Dreamin' Demon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnRjr...eature=related

Young Maiden Ghost
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rv98H...eature=related

floatingslowly 03.24.2011 03:02 PM

it's funny you should mention them being a favorite as I was going to ask you what you thought in a (soon to be released) pm as (bits of) Salamander remind me of (bits of) The Darkside.

I (still) listen to The Darkside (almost) weekly...they are the reason I love The Spacemen3.

it'a criminal that they should be mentioned in this thread. :(

Savage Clone 03.24.2011 03:05 PM

I got into the Darkside when they came out because of the S3 connection. I was lucky enough to have found about about S3 when they were still happening.

There are a couple of groups from here that are VERY Darkside-ish sounding. Flavor Crystals for one.

floatingslowly 03.24.2011 03:08 PM

does buying Recurring on it's release date count?

it doesn't. does it?

:(

Savage Clone 03.24.2011 03:10 PM

Not unless you were excited that it was the "new Spacemen 3 album" you had been waiting for, and were a little disappointed with some of the songs.

floatingslowly 03.24.2011 03:42 PM

yes, but it was tempered by the fact that they had already broken up.

once, while mindmelting on hallucinagenic drugs at 2:30am, The Darkside's Waiting for the Angels came on the radio. the DJ mentioned the relationship to the Spacemen3 and I bought the entire catalog the next day.

on a side note: this DJ now lives in OKC and tried several times to get a radio station off the ground (the spy). the station had Tyson Meade of the Chainsaw Kittens as a DJ and still stands as one of the best radio stations I've ever listened to. OKC---huh---go figure. inb4 John Peel.

Glice 03.24.2011 03:52 PM

John Peel wasn't a radio station - he was the only worthwhile thing on a radio station (Mary-Anne Hobbes/ Andy Kershaw not withstanding).

inb4 non-hilarious comeback smugly delivered in some hysterical veneer of humour.

Glice 03.24.2011 03:53 PM

Also, tl;dr - floatingslowly is a prick.

floatingslowly 03.24.2011 04:47 PM

The Late Great Sir Peel began his radio DJ career at the (aptly call-signed) KOMA radio station in OKC. to this day, they are playing the same set-lis......ooh yawn...almost fell asleep there...set-list.

so, cunt off, sausage-bagger.

Glice 03.24.2011 05:12 PM

floatingslowly 03.24.2011 07:06 PM

I've been banned from ever playing that song (again).

cockblocked my irl trolling. :(

Glice 03.24.2011 07:28 PM

Can I recommend this? Same people behind it, far, far more horrendous.

jon boy 03.24.2011 07:39 PM

i remember ultrasound had a massively obese singer who was emotional a lot of the time.

the ikara cult 03.26.2011 06:13 PM

Cornershop

They are so many streets ahead of every band mentioned in this thread (by me at least), and theyre still going, but they get unfairly forgotten in my humble opinion. A really great band

Glice 03.26.2011 06:16 PM

Yeah! I seem to remember Clone was a fan of their pre-Brimful of Asha stuff. Didn't realise they were still going.

the ikara cult 03.26.2011 06:32 PM

yeah, Brimful of Asha was when i was 13 or so, but i always remembered Sleep on the left side being the quiet follow up song that didnt get alot of play but i liked more. I think that and the original "slow" version of Brimful of Asha were big in starting me liking indie music.

They did THIS GEM in 2002, but again i didnt explore more once i heard it. Theyre such an unassuming band they got subsumed by the hype machine.

I feel bad discussing them in a thread in which i have also discussed Intentions of an Asteroid...

SonicBebs 03.27.2011 01:14 PM

6music had a thing on Screamadelica this evening

tunes sounded nice with the sunshine

The Coral, anyone?

The Coral...oh jeez, I remember when every music press outlet was calling them the next big thing, and I was wondering what they were hearing and I wasn't...then it seemed everyone agreed with me.

Other not-so next big things (judge for yourself how "underrated" they were)

Abandoned Pools
Kinesis
Head Automatica
Leisureworld (maybe not a "next big thing" per se, but I remember Music Choice's Alternative Rock channel played this a ton in 2002/2003...and bad as it it may be, I kinda wish I had written this song, if only for the riff)
The Music
Dirty Vegas
Dragpipe (somewhat NSFW)
Vaux
Pepper (note: many of you will NOT like this)
The Secret Machines
The Vines (yeah, I know they're still around, but to the average music listener they belong in the "remember them"/"where are they now" file)
Kasabian (sorry UK boardies)
Fischerspooner

I saw this thread earlier...just didn't reply 'til now.

jon boy 04.01.2011 01:19 AM

i hated them.
