Meat pies: steak and ale, pork and pickle, and fatayer for a bit of middle-eastern flavour.

SonicBebs 04.27.2012 01:47 PM

Steak and stilton, chicken bacon and leak, or pork and apple

Pookie 04.27.2012 01:50 PM

SonicBebs 04.27.2012 01:52 PM

stu666 04.27.2012 04:38 PM

really? i love fish but i don't like to overcook it. the closer to raw, the better.

wouldn't baking for a long time kill all the fishy goodness?

splain, man, splain how it worx!

SonicBebs 04.27.2012 04:48 PM

Ooh fish pie, nice

I think a pie needs pastry on top and bottom. None of those casseroles with a puff pastry lid that pubs sell. Thats not a fucking pie. But fish pie gets away with it cause its so nice

that is more of an empanada where i come from but looks like tasty deep-fried goodness.

demonrail666 04.27.2012 04:54 PM

Has the simple pork pie been mentioned yet? Cut into quarters with a tomato on the side, a generous smear of Coleman's and a pinch of salt. Sunday evening eternal.

SonicBebs 04.27.2012 04:56 PM

Did you know that pork pie jelly is there to protect the meat from bruising when your on your horse?

this is getting deliciously pornographic!

what's the story with fish pie though?

SonicBebs 04.27.2012 05:09 PM

Fish pie is fish in a cheese sauce with mashed potato on top. haddock and macrel and salmon and prawns work well but you can use pretty much anything. As long as its fish

Goes nice with peas

Fish pie usually has a few different types of white fish but salmon is good too, cut into pieces maybe with some prawns and some people put boiled eggs in along with some white/béchamel sauce/gravy (whatever you want to call it) and topped with mashed potatoes. no pastry.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh

that explains, lol. cooking the fuck out of fish would be wrong!

i'm not crazy about béchamel, but i don't hate it either, and i can see how it would work w/ maybe cod or something.

damn, this is making me hungry. i got a fuckton of salmon cans, maybe i'll experiment. this is good wild alaska salmon tho so i better not fuck it up.

^^ good shit, that. maybe i'll eat it just like that with some shots of vodka. ha!

I didn't but it's a pie fact I'll definitely use in the future. You can never have too many pie facts.

stu666 04.27.2012 05:30 PM

Oh and Game pie.

mmmm.

If we're moving away from strictly pastry topped pies, then I think the winner has to be shephard's pie.

stu666 04.27.2012 05:38 PM

Yes, Shepherd's pie and Cottage pie is better than Fish pie

LifeDistortion 04.27.2012 07:16 PM

and Swanson's Chicken Pot Pie. Have we totally gone off the rails at this point? How do you leave off cherry pie on the main selections? That's my pick.

Those tinned salmon things make a tasty fish cake too. Just make sure you season the breadcrumbs properly

demonrail666 04.28.2012 07:58 AM

I love fish and I love pies, but not when the two are combined.

To look at, yeah, but I have a thing about fish in any kind of sauce. Fried or grilled, it's one of my favourite things ever but I can barely eat it if it's in a pie or a pasta sauce. It's my loss, I know.

http://www.higgidy.co.uk/pies

Our traditional short crust pastry case is deep filled with a rich steak, ale and English Stilton stew, then topped with a heap of potato mash. Our stew is simply made with carefully selected cuts of British chuck steak simmered very slowly with in a rich beef stock with a generous slug of ale.

floatingslowly 05.01.2012 02:01 PM

A....slug.

Gross.

EVOLghost 05.01.2012 02:11 PM
