Very cool.

I'll have to give murmurs.com another look to try and hunt down some shows there....especially the ones I've been to.

atari 2600 09.20.2006 12:53 AM

There were only ten or so there the last time I checked, but you never know when one could be added that's worth downloading.

have you heard "Furry Happy Monsters" that they did with the Muppets?

Kate Pierson did a different backing track for the song, but a muppet voiced her on the show.

no i haven't, but kate pierson makes me angry in general.

atari 2600 09.20.2006 01:05 AM

okey-doke

George Bush makes me angry. Apparently you have an altogether different threshold for anger.

Cantankerous 09.20.2006 01:12 AM

there is a fine line between "annoying" and "angering."
kate pierson is that line.

atari 2600 09.20.2006 01:36 AM

Thank you so fucking much, Atari 2600. I found my bootlist and will send it to you soon.

Пятхъдесят Шест 09.20.2006 08:27 PM

You know, this thread has made me listen to some old REM CD's I have.

Terrific thread. Atari your stories are great.

Is this to say you don't like the B52s either, Tank Girl?

"Shiny Happy People" is on my list of worst REM songs, but in general the good outweighs the bad...

I wish they'd regain their focus, though...Around The Sun was just so weak-but if you've been around a while, sooner or later, you'll make a bad album...happens to everybody.

CHOUT 09.20.2006 09:10 PM

Listening right now! Sounds better than I anticipated. Oh yeah, my band also covers Moral Kiosk.

I should have went to the store earlier in the week. I went this afternoon, and they are sold out of all "When The Light Is Mine" dvds until Monday.

I could have went to another store, but I give my business to Plan 9 Records.

Lots of new good ones have been added at www.murmurs.com

CHOUT 09.23.2006 11:48 PM

listening to the new stipe interview from murmurs right now.

Atari, my net is getting hooked up wednesday, and ill get you my bootlist when i can.

CHOUT 09.27.2006 01:52 PM

Okay, here's my REM boots. This list is way old, and I may have more new ones but my tapes are messy right now.

I got this about three weeks ago, and watched it two weeks ago. There's tons to love here, but
I agree with CHOUT that that the included live performances are a bit of a disappointment and that it's strange they would use TV performances and not include So.Central Rain on Letterman. Besides, the good bands usually don't sound the best in TV performances. I have some pro-shots where they are much better live.

Anyway, it seems the only easter egg is the long version of Radio Free Europe which I was made aware of while the credits rolled. I googled to see if I could find a thread from an R.E.M. board or something concerning hidden videos, but was unable to find anything, so I decided to ask here.

atari 2600 01.19.2007 08:51 AM

I just read something that you press "play" while viewing Radio Free Europe to see the "original long version" that's hidden.
Okay, I did it.
It's the video set the original Hib-Tone Radio Free Europe single.

Tokolosh 01.19.2007 09:14 AM

This link might help in your search for hidden vids. Here's the link.

Edit: Nevermind. This site doesn't have any info at all.

Tokolosh 01.19.2007 09:34 AM

R.E.M (In studio) AOL video.

huh, ill have to check that out. same here with being tipped off about the other version of the vid from the credits. but is it the 'long version' without the live footage?

atari 2600 01.19.2007 05:41 PM

It looks like the video has been slightly resequenced/reedited. The audio is the Hib-Tone single, so you hear the longer intro and there's a video part to go with it.

Just press 'play' while the regular RFE vid is playing and the hidden video will start. After it ends, it'll go back to the regular version and play it if left to itself.

I really like the song 9-9 from Murmur for some reason. I love REM, especially the IRS stuff.

I grew up about 45 minutes from Athens and I used to go there all the time to visit UGA's library in high school. Too bad I wasn't into rock music then. My best friend and my brother live there now, so I still go there often. I was there for a week this past summer. I'd do the REM tour, but none of my friends are into them. Maybe I'll do it by myself one of these days.

Also, I kind of like Up, even though it is usually shat upon.

LittlePuppetBoy 01.19.2007 07:46 PM

I love Sitting Still and Pilgrimage.

I should try to coax my parents to get the I.R.S years. They're hug REM fans, yet until I got them Murmur, they only had their post 1991 material.

Pilgrimage is employed as the soundtrack for the credits on the When the Light is Mine dvd.

I moved to Athens in '89 at age 21 and it was just as they were going to WB. During the subsequent years, just about everyone I knew who professed to really like R.E.M. didn't own or just plain didn't care all that much for the I.R.S. albums! Life's Rich Pageant and Document were the only ones they really knew.
