That's the beauty of fantasy football, I suppose: even the most boring game on paper becomes a nail biter once you have players featured in it in your FF team. I honestly think this could be a great tournament generally, though. Unlike the group stages of the Champions League or the World Cup, there aren't any really easy games for the bigger teams to breeze through. |

so join, man. you watch futbOl, no? |
I slowly remove my wizard robe, careful not to disturb the protective wards that are my armor. The dragonsilk falls to the cold stone floor, with a hushed whisper.
Now, naked, and fully_erect, I begin to don my true garments of power: cleated runners and pair of lycra short-shorts, resplendent in the colors of Team Slowly, a garish mockery of fashion in gold, pink and blue, with highly-stylized twenty-sided dice depicted on each ass cheek. "let's do this!", I roar to the crowd of hundreds, "let's play some SOCCER!!!!!!!" |

Not really. I enjoy watching a good match, but I don't normally follow sports. |

it's all statistics and game theory. a long complicated gamble. give it a shot if you can. you can check the odds & figure out what everyone is worth: http://www.oddschecker.com/football/...nals/euro-2012 then build your own math-performing machine across time. it's a kind of pari-mutuel system like horse-betting or stocks. read this fun shit. anyway, speaking of good matches, there are some really good ones coming up this weekend: germany/portugal + spain/italy (no offense to the other teams), then monday we have france/germany, and tuesday (of interest to my gambling scheme) poland/russia; wednesday there's holland/germany (epic), anfd things continue like that until the 19th, then a day of break, then continue... good shit! and if you have comcast or some other isp that offers espn3, you can watch free. begin here and then click on each day: http://espn.go.com/watchespn/index/_...EFA+EURO+2012/ anyhuevos, maybe you like. it beats watching puebla! |

Actually, I'm somewhat curious about Poland and Russia to see how they will fare. Group A is a funny group. The team with the highest FIFA-ranking in that group (Russia, nr 13) is ranked lower than the lowest ranked team of group B (Portugal, 10). Of course FIFA-rankings are often incomprehensible, but still. Quote:
Interesting to see Gomez as the top contender for topscorer. From what I've read he's not even guaranteed to start? I was under the impression that, provided he is fit, Klose is the nr1 striker for Germany (because of his better link-up play)... however, I'm sure the bookmakers know better than I do. Any Germans who can elaborate? Speaking of topscorers, here's some handy fantasy-info for you: Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will be on the bench for Holland, despite being the top scorer of the Bundesliga and the overall topscorer of the euro qualification campaign (12 goals in 8 games). Van Persie gets the nod (link-up, more versatile). While he's had a great season at Arsenal (also topscorer in the Premier League), his record for Holland isn't anywhere remotely as good as Huntelaar's... and let's not mention his performance in the 2010 world cup. He'll be under great pressure this tournament to deliver the goals this time. Also, I suppose it's obvious, but don't pick any dutch defenders if you want to collect points. |

heh....requires quite a bit of research I see. |
OK, I've "auto-completed" a team and if time and work allows me will try and give it some more serious thinking in the next couple of hours.
I'm Michel Twatini, nice to meet you. |
van persie will be looking to raise his value for arsenal this tournament. if he has a good one his value could increase massively.
the only reason him and arsenal wouldn't announce he's leaving until after the summer is so that he can go into the euros in really good form. storm it and demand an extra £10million on his fee to Juve |
Bad news guys, a report says that 30% of eastern europenor hookers got THE AIDS, and that the Eurosoccer teamguys really like to unf them, so BE CAREFUL THEM GUYS when you make it to Kiev!!!
|
I'm playing it pretty safe this matchweek; spending over the odds on players I'm confident will start before seeing how things stand with the cheaper ones.

what do you mean, you have leftover money? |
fuck me, i was gonna put lewandowski as a striker and didn't. FUCKING DOLT! polanski please don't let me down.
|
off to a flying start what with my goalie being sent off an all :D
|
I did ok with Lewandowski and Dzagoev. I was really close to picking Szczesny so was a bit lucky there, but I picked the wrong Russia keeper so swings and roundabouts.
|
fuckit, i don't know who to pick for captain, podolski or kroos
previously i picked polanski and sneijder and they disappointed with 2 miserly points each. owch. who could do this? hmmmmmmmmmmmm AYAYAY. |
fucking piss, software left me stuck with sneijder, i had picked kroos, shoulda stuck with podolski, I HATE THIS GAME.
|
Im dying on the vine at the moment.
Serves me right for picking Arsenal Scum like Sejesny and Van Persie. |
ifuck my internet aggghhhh

Italy - Spain is a bit of a stinker so far, but its picked up a little towards the end.

This has happened here too. I really don't know how this can occur. And with a similar unknowingness, I could connect again (my furniture is probably relieved). I'm close to bragging about the results - except my backline didn't do well at all. And, aside for 3 goals from group A, already two assists from Ireland-Croatia... |
I had that problem yesterday too. I had to get them to resend the password to my email address and then log in from the link on that. I've not had any trouble since (fingers crossed)
I've had mixed fortunes so far with my selection. I did ok on the first day, thanks largely to Russia's and Poland's wins but was let down a bit by Spain and Holland. Tomorrow should be interesting for me, although I'm largely being governed by my heart rather than my head for the England v France game. |
this just in.. Ethiopia upsets South Africa and qualifies for the next round by beating Central Africa Republic for their group in the world cup qualifiers.
also, props to the danes for getting their payback against the Dutch after the World Cup 2010 fiasco |

I really want an African nation to emerge as a genuine footballing superpower. The reigning Euro-Latin American dominance is getting tired. The game needs a new name, to challenge it. That's why I'm keen for football in the US to pick up, but I think the right African country could have the most impact. One of the problems seems to be that no African country has really managed to have any sustained success. They have a couple of years where they look really good then fade, and another one takes its place. One minute its Cameroon, then it's South Africa, then it's Ivory Coast, and maybe next it'll be Ethiopia, but they never build on their success. There's obvious political reasons why that's the case but I do hope one of them can get their act together and become a real force, in the way that say Argentina or Brazil have. |
fuck .. i was so happy that Jelavic scored a goal yesterday as I have him on my team, and then I realized i left him on the bench and forgot to substitute him.
yo. |
i tend to do that with fantasy football. I set the team up and then pretty much forget to do anything for the rest of the season.
season before last i picked drogba, but he was injured in pre-season so i left him on the bench. then he recovered sooner than anticipated and scored a hatrick on the first day, but of course i hadn't bothered putting him back in the team |
i was able to login but that ddn't fix the problem that basically i picked the cheapest 1/2 of my team to NOT play-- i thought they'd fuck up and give me - points so i chose them from the deep bench, eg kelly and jagielka
QUICK QUESTIONS: 1) if i substitute someone out, do i lose their points for the matchday???? or do i get to keep the points?? 2) what about when i transfer someone out? keep or lose points? looks like im gonna burn all my points just fielding a team that will actually play. and yesterday iniesta was awesome just i just got 2 points out of him (doubled for captain). how come not more? statistics--blagh! |
^^ FUCKERS, HELP ME BEFORE THE GAME STARTS.
pleeeeeeeeeeeease |
1. you will lose their points.
2. you will lose their points. |
shiiiiiiit. okay.
thanks man. btw, i drank for the irish yesterday. true story. from a green cup and all. |
so who is worse? kelly or jagielka? none will play you reckon? i got the worst players-- on purpose!! fucking dolt haa haaa
-- ps i put in a french dude. kock-something. sounds vaguely polish. http://www.soccerway.com/news/2012/J...st-earn-place/ nope, he's not playing either, ha ha ha. |
Jagielka might play but I'd be surprised if Kelley does.
You only have one free transfer at the end of this matchweek so, if you really want a major overhaul in time for the next one (ie tomorrow), you could gamble on using your wildcard which'll let you change as many as you want for free. But obviously, once it's used it's used. Having a quick look at your squad, though, you do seem to have a lot of bench warmers. It's up to you but personally I'd use my wildcard. It's a gamble for sure. |
Quote:
oh shit i took my free transfer allready, dzagoev in for kroos where is the wildcard button? my initial setup was misguided. yes, bench warmers: ON PURPOSE ("if they sit it out they can't fuck up"). i didn't know you could get points for just showing up, so defenders looked to me like a losing proposition (they get penalized even if someone else fucks up, unlike forwards). i also thought you had to keep the squad through the whole thing so i didn't focus on teams with little chances-- clearly the danish GK would have been better than the 3rd italian substitute. anyway you clarified that but i had already done too much work to backtrack much. here's to the frikkin wildcard |
Speaking of gambles, Hodgson has gone with starting Oxlade-Chamberlain. Hmmm. We'll see, I suppose.
|
To use your wildcard, do your transfers as normal then, when you get to the bit when you're asked to confirm them, there should be an option to use your wildcard. You can then make as many adjustments as you want - on top of the ones you've made already - before the next deadline.
|
Quote:
aaaaah, awesome, thanks. i just made ribery mon capitan (said Q) iniesta just yielded 2pts. 2. |
Not doing well so far. Did pick my squad a bit last-minute on Friday, wonder if should just use my wildcard now or save it for later. Do you get unlimited transfers again after the group stage?
Also didn't realise you could change your captain on a daily basis. I would've picked Jelavic then, but that can still be compensated as long as Benzema scores against England. Go frogs! |
