mainstream doesnt translate into "garbage music everyone likes" like so many kids like to believe.

theres plenty of great bands that are "mainstream"...well...not so many at the moment...but we could certainly use some to challenge all the garbage thats currently going on and maybe pave the way for future creative outlets.

ha ha yes rather ripped i saw @ walmart & i wanted to cry

well yes i guess what i mean is they never made millions like thruston wanted. o well.

the thing is mainstream/underground is no longer so sharp a distinction in that blurry zone in the middle, whereas the extremes are highly recognizable, but armies of cool hunters working for the advertising industry will always manage to co-opt anything even vaguely new or revive buried gems such as nick drake etc.

Okay this one is a bit silly, but I think Nitro, for what they were, should've been huge in the hair metal days - they waste Poison, Warrant etc...

4 necked guitars and a singer with a 6 octave range? I can't believe I hadn't heard of them until last year.

And now the 100th time I've posted a link to their Freight Train video...

Hole, they never got big due to credit given out to other people instead of the band.

Somewhat more sensible than my last response to this: Cowboy Junkies

Although I'd hate to become sick of them because of hearing them on the radio all the time.

I want to buy a record of them, always hear about them. maybe next paycheck.

The Eighties Matchbox B-line disaster.
Like current media darlings The Horrors only with much more fun and better excecuted pretention. And one of the best singers ever. And they were Bhuddists.
