Sure !
i hope there will be a place in the danube to cool the beer, like last year in Korneuburg. |
update
The bad news first: due to health problems, Marc Almond unfortunately saw himself forced to cancel his performance at the donaufestival 07. So much better, however, sounds the news that we have managed to add the exceptional Sunn O))) to this year’s line-up. To be marvelled at on April 20th at the Klangraum Krems Minoritenkirche. |
Awww, that's hardly replacing like with like, is it? I'd be sorely disappointed if I was looking forward to seeing Marc Almond and ended up with Sunn O))) instead.

What would be a suitable "like with like" replacement for Marc Almond, though?

Anthony and the Johnsons comes immediately to mind.

Boy George.

Hell, yes! See you next week. |
First weekend was really, really great!
![]() Sunn O))) played in a church (Minoritenkirche Klangraum Krems) , i mean, yeah, Sunn O))) played in a church. How fucking cool is that? That gig was so good i can“t even tell you how ace they were, in a church. ![]() NWW were amazing too. In my opinion they should have played a little louder but i guess that`s just me. Mr.Tibet joined their set for some time, that was also interesting. ![]() Current 93 put on a very beautiful and intense show, i was really tired when they played but it was still fucking great. ![]() On Thursday we came a little late so we missed a part of Fennesz“s set. Don“t know what to say, hm...,he was great and i really enjoyed it. I suck in describing music..... -Simon Finn was awesome (he played a fantastic version of JERUSALEM) -Julia Kent was awesome -I didn“t really like Cyclobe (love Coil, though) -Addictive TV was great fun and nice to dance to -Om suprised me positively -The Notwist were pretty boring -Little Annie was funny and interesting -Matmos were OK -Didn“t really enjoy Larsen Unfortunately i missed Six Organs of Addmitance. But a friend of mine told me he (Ben Chasney) was pretty drunk and they only played for about 20 minutes. |
Oh yeah, and i won 15€ donated by Will Oldham.
I invested the money in a Current 93 T-Shirt and a Heineken. |

24 July 2007 CANCELLED Current 93 September 2007 concert in Florence/Firenze CANCELLED We are very sorry to say that we have had to CANCEL the 8 September 2007 C93 show which was to have taken place in Florence/Firenze at the Ippodromo Delle Mulina Alle Cascine. We are now working on dates for 2008 to coincide with the release of the forthcoming C93 album. The press release from Important/Larsen follows: Larsen & Friends ABECEDA (CD+DVD, Important Records, IMPREC 129) Release date: 7 August 2007 Baby Dee: harp, piano David Michael Tibet: vocals Fabrizio Modonese Palumbo: guitar, electric viola Jóhann Jóhannsson: electric organ, laptop Julia Kent: cello Marco "il Bue" Schiavo: drums, glockenspiel Paolo Dellapiana: electronics, accordion, shruti-box, theremin Roberto Maria Clemente: guitar Snejanka Mihaylova: performance This CD+DVD set captures an extremely special evening for Larsen; one that places them in a perfect visual and musical perspective, revealing more than a little about this enigmatic quartet from Torino, Italy. For one night only, Larsen assembled their closest musical friends to play to a sold-out crowd at the Teatro Colosseo in Torino. The purpose of the performance was to pay tribute to the work of Czech avant-garde designer, typographer, founder of Devestil, and cultural radical Karel Teige and his Abeceda, a 1926 collaboration with poet Vitoslav Nezva that minimalized text down to its basic components, establishing a poetic dialogue between text and images. Larsen brings minimalist beauty and melody with a live performance incorporating music, dance, and projections. Joining the group are friends David Tibet (Current 93), Baby Dee (Current 93), Julia Kent (Antony and the Johnsons and long time Larsen collaborator) and Jņhann Jņhannsson (Touch/4AD). The music swells in gentle pulses of softly stated melody, and emotion clings to each note while glistening shimmers of electronics dance quietly in the mix. The DVD reminds us of what a rich visual experience Abeceda was, and still is. As The Wire so perfectly put it, David Tibet's performance "provides a vital link between the music and the visuals." Thanks to Larsen's definitive discipline and kindred visual & musical collaborators, Abeceda is an event of great subtlety and complexity. It is truly a gift that this performance was so perfectly documented in both an audio and visual format. Where the work of Karel Teige was a tremendous gift for the eyes, Larsen & Friend's Abeceda is a gift for both the eyes and the ears. "While Larsen themselves sit impassively as their compositions unfurl it's clear that their onstage collaborators are strongly affected by the richly emotional music emerging, with their own contributions seeming to articulate its latent drama and passion. A fascinating and frequently beautiful event."-The Wire. www.larsen.to.it www.importantrecords.com 'All Shall Be Well' by Tod Wodicka: a remarkable novel I recommend absolutely 'All Shall Be Well, and All Shall Be Well and All Manner of Things Shall Be Well' by Tod Wodicka. I was recently sent this novel, and I loved it so much that I wanted to recommend it to everyone. It is difficult to summarise, as it takes in so many areas--including St. Hildegard of Bingen. But it is funny, tragic, profound and beautiful. People familiar with C93's 'Thunder Perfect Mind' will perhaps recognise the title of the book, which comes from the medięval mystical Christian treatise by St. Julian of Norwich, 'Revelations of Divine Love'. I have read this book twice in two weeks--please obtain it! It is out now in paperback in the UK published by Jonathan Cape, as well as in the Netherlands, translated into Dutch, published by Nieuw Amsterdam. It will be published in hardcover in the USA on January 29th, 2008 in the US by Pantheon Books. Tod Wodicka's MySpace, in the persona of his creation Burt Heckler, the fictional narrator of the novel, is at: www.myspace.com/burthecker Some other forms of happiness recently Thank you to, alphabetically, MARC ALMOND, PETER ATANASOFF, OM, RICKIE LEE JONES and SUNN O))), all of whose beautiful concerts I recently attended in London. I also greatly enjoyed the autobiography of an ex-member of Korn, "Save Me From Myself" by Brian "Head" Korn. I find myself meeting more people from my past as I get older. Someone I re-encountered recently, thanks to David Cotner, was one of the first friends I made in London, Scarlett Cannon, who was married to Ross Cannon. Scarlett worked in fashion, but was primarily renowned for running nightclubs and being a London icon. Her face was often on the front of ID magazine, and she appeared in many Culture Club videos, as well as working with Andrew Logan on the Alternative Miss World show. Ross worked at Produktion Hair in London, with Paul Hurst and Christine Glover. Their salon, which had been named by Scarlett, was a remarkable avant-garde hairdressers in London's Kensington Market, where one could buy Whitehouse records. I credited Produktion with being responsible for the haircuts for C93 on NATURE UNVEILED, though of course there were neither photos of the group nor their hair visible on the album sleeve. I moved in with Scarlett and Ross to their squat in Earl's Court, where the previous tenant had committed suicide by burning herself alive, after scrawling "DED WOMAN DED WOMAN DED WOMAN DED" on the walls in lipstick. My mattress was over the hole the unfortunate woman had created with the flames of her self-immolation. The flat was haunted. Forwarding 23 years to last week, I again met Scarlett, as beautiful and fascinating as ever. She is now a highly qualified and highly experienced Reiki practitioner. We spoke for a long time about what we had done and where we had been and what we had become. She is a remarkable woman, and a profound soul. So I write of her to whoever reads this, and talk to myself of how shared pasts are always shared futures. Her MySpace is www.myspace.com/houseofheavenlyhealing. Thank you and peace to all, David +++ durtro.com |

Thanks for the link.
Some of his prints is quite interesting, but Livin' Fear of James Last [Product Placement #1] is totally crap. I don't understand how someone who's made some really amazing work, can be so unoriginal to use the photoshop plastic wrap effect. Didn't expect that from him. A very disappointing piece. |
Dear all:
a very brief update with a longer update to follow in the next few days. Nurse With Wound live shows in Berlin and Venice in November 2007
Nurse With Wound, as Steven Stapleton, Colin Potter, Andrew Liles, Matt Waldron, Hazel Two-Twigs and David Tibet, are playing the following shows with the wonderful Blind Cave Salamander as NWW's special guests. 21/11/2007 @ Volksbühne, Berlin, Germany www.volksbuehne-berlin.de 24/11/2007 @ Teatro Fondamenta Nuove, Venezia/Venice, Italywww.teatrofondamentanuove.it

NWW thanks all those involved in, and attending, the Moscow show Many thanks from all of us for the wonderful audience at the Moscow show on September 30, and to all the lovely people we met there. There are so many names to remember, most of which I have probably forgotten, but especial blessings and thanks to: Grigory Goldenzwag, Inna Makarenko, Igor Tonikh, Alexey Aliaev, Father Kosma, Nicodeme, Geraldine Fagan, Andrei Bakhmin, Elena Zichon, their lovely friend who was with them and us wearing a white linen cap and whose name was suddenly blocked mentally in me and whose name I requested from Andrei but who did not reply in time mea culpa), Zufia and Fabrizio Palumbo. So many faces and so many memories and such kindness. THANK YOU!!!
UK postal strike
The UK Royal Mail is striking for 6 days from this Thursday 4 October. We will still be sending out orders but please be aware that this strike naturally implies a backlog—and hence slower delivery—of orders. Love to all, you and yours and all that is around you, David Tibet+++ |
And may I just say, Blind Cave Salamander are not just wonderful, they're actually very wonderful. Fabrizio Modonese Palumbo and Marco Milanesio Larsen from Larsen, plus Julia Kent (my new favourite cellist), plus Paul Beauchamp, whose details I can't remember. Their new CD is beautiful.
The track "BCS Falls" on Fabrizio Modonese Palumbo's myspace is one of theirs, as is "Time Piece" on the Blossoming Noise myspace, AND there's an MP3 clip of another track, "The Great Mountain" here. |
Thank you.
|
Have you heard / seen the new Larsen CD/DVD, abeceda, with David Tibet and Baby Dee? It's very good.
|
I have come across that but I haven't heard it yet. I'm not too familiar with Larsen, but seen as you have mentioned them a few times I'll give them a shot, thanks.
|
Quote:
I've heard it and didn't really like it. Don't know, maybe i'm always listening to the wrong stuff but i have absolutely no idea why someone could like Larsen - boring, boring, boring. |
When you reach my age you'll come to appreciate the appeal of slightly less exciting music :)
|
Ok, when I'm reaching your age i'll let you know.
Will you still be alive then? edit: I like how you used "less exciting" instead of boring |
I'll be alive, but I probably won't be able to remember my name or where I live.
|
I'll remember for you, i promise.
anyways Cool that you like Julia Kent, she was one of my highlights this year. So beautiful..... ![]() |
Beautiful woman & beautiful music.
|
I'm seeing her play next weekend. I'm very excited about it.

19 November 2007
Dear All:
Peace and Love to You. This is an extensive update with news of some of the many activities which will be occurring over the next twelve months. David Tibet and Current 93: October/November 2008 and what will occur then
October/November 2008 has been chosen as the focus for several major activities from David Tibet, Current 93 and Durtro Jnana. It will be the month of David's first solo art exhibition, which will take place at a gallery in central London. It will watch over the release of Current 93's new album. And it will finally mark the long-delayed release of ‘Under the Rain and Teeth of Gods’, David's book of lyrics and notes. Please see the information below for full details on each of these areas, as well as details of the hand-printed book, signed by David to the recipient, which is being sent out free of charge to all those who paid in advance, so long ago, for ‘Under the Rain and Teeth of Gods’. This hand-printed edition is NOT AVAILABLE FOR SALE, and is ONLY available to those who have so patiently waited for, and supported, David's book, and will NOT be available for retail or wholesale orders from Durtro nor elsewhere. ‘Under the Rain and Teeth of Gods’: the endless journey of David Tibet's eternally delayed lyric book
I am very grateful for everyone's patience at the endless delays with this book. All of you have been so supportive; I have received only 10 requests for refunds, and all of those were courteous and friendly—and supportive too! I owe you all a great deal for your kindness. As I desire that this volume is officially published at the same time as my art exhibition opens and the new C93 album is released, I have decided that all of those who have paid for, and thus supported this project by ordering in advance, either Edition I or Edition II of the volume will receive, with no charge whatsoever for the book or for airmail postage, a hand-printed book of 4 new works by myself. Each copy will be signed and numbered by me, and inscribed to the recipient if he or she wishes. This book will not be available for purchase from Durtro at any time ever. I am hoping this small gesture from me will pay you all back in some small way for your immense support with this project—and, indeed, in all that I and we have done. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Needless to say, on publication the book will be posted to you all immediately along with the free CD that comes free to those who pre-ordered the book. Anyone who does not wish to wait till this CONFIRMED publication date of October/November 2008, please get in touch and we will refund your payment IMMEDIATELY. More details will be released of the free Subscribers' edition as soon as we have them in stock. I have been told by the printer that it will arrive at Durtro in mid-January/early February 2008. We will then make an announcement on Durtro explaining how people who have pre-ordered ‘Under the Rain and Teeth of Gods’ can contact us with details of their personal dedications, should they wish one. David Tibet: his first solo art exhibition to open in London in October/November 2008
I have been approached by the director of a new art gallery in central London to hold my first solo exhibition of new artwork and installations, and their accompanying voices, in October/November 2008. There will be a substantial catalogue of the artwork on show published at the same time, as well as other items connected to the exhibition, which will last for between 4 and 6 weeks. †
And now on to events leading up to October/November 2008: David Tibet curates a one day special event at the Roadburn festival in the Netherlands on 20 April 2008 I am proud and delighted to confirm that I have been invited by the wonderful Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, the Netherlands to curate a special day long event on 20 April 2008. Tickets should be going on sale on 1 December, 2007, and cost €32.50 (approximately £23) for the day which I am curating. Current 93 will be performing as well as some special guests that I have invited to accompany us. I can confirm that the majestic OM will be appearing, and that I am presently discussing the appearance of three or so more of my favourite artists. Roadburn is perhaps the pre-eminent festival of doom, stoner, psychedelacidic and othercoloured metal, and I am very touched and happy to have been invited by Walter to bring some of those artists whom I love to a festival whose work I have long admired, and which has featured so many bands in the past of whom I am a fan. More details will be posted on Durtro, and will also be found on the official Roadburn website:www.roadburn.com/frames.html |
Current 93: concerts in Europe and England in April 2008
C93 are presently arranging a series of concerts in Europe and England for April 2008. We hope to be playing two nights in London, Berlin and Moscow, as well as shows in Latvia or Poland, Scandinavia and perhaps a Francophone country. More details when the dates are confirmed. David Tibet and Current 93 to collaborate with Skitliv and their singer Maniac, formerly of Mayhem
<IMG height=150 width=200>
The below is taken from the press release by Skitliv's manager, Patricia Thomas. I was introduced to Maniac recently by Attila Csihar of Mayhem and Sunn O))), and we have become great friends. C93 as myself and Andrew Liles were asked by Maniac if we could create a collage-mix of C93 material as the introductory music to their live shows, and if we would also create a brief collage introduction to their forthcoming mini-CD, as mentioned below. We were delighted to and honoured to do so. I really admire Maniac and I love Skitliv's work.
Skitliv play London's Camden Underworld on 13 December, so I hope to see many of you who are reading this update at their show. www.theunderworldcamden.co.uk A brief biography of Maniac, once again by his manager, follows: One of the original members of Mayhem, the group that encapsulated the early black metal scene with its suicides, murders, and onstage bloodletting, Maniac has always been one of the genre's most recognisable figures. David Tibet invited to collaborate with Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry on his forthcoming ‘Repentance’ album by his producer Andrew WK
<IMG height=200 width=170>
I have been invited to contribute lyrics and vocals to a track on the forthcoming Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry album, ‘Repentance’, by my dear friend and beloved collaborator, and the album's producer, the inexhaustible Andrew W.K.. What more can I say except how honoured and dumbstruck I am. It doesn't get any better than this. Or any odder. www.myspace.com/leescratchperry
David Tibet to appear in vocalic form on the forthcoming Chris Connelly album
David has recorded spoken vocals for the forthcoming album by Chris Connelly, whose previous album, ‘The Episodes’, was released on Durtro. Also appearing on the album are Shirley Manson of Garbage, actress Torri Higginson and David Miller of Finitribe. Titled ‘Forgiveness & Exile’, it is to be released in 2008. www.chrisconnelly.com and www.myspace.com/christopherconnelly David Tibet contributes vocals and texts to the new Ęthenor album

She is exploring the possibility of the translation of essential meaning through singing, which honours language as sound and as a spiritual resource. And long last this book is underway, with all technical problems solved. We have been informed we will be receiving copies before Christmas. We were also told by the technical department that the head- and tail-bands that were listed as being part of the book's specifications were technically possible but would be ęsthetically displeasing due to the gilt page-edging and the size of the book so we have cancelled that feature of the book; our apologies for this minor adjustment. Thank to all of you for your patience. Once the book is in stock, all pre-ordered copies will be sent out. The book/CD set will then be re-added to the Durtro shop page, as well as the CD which will also be available separately for purchase from the Durtro and Jnana shops. 222 copies have been printed of this volume, of which around 160 have been pre-sold, leaving around 40 or so copies for sale at the moment of writing. Flemish/Dutch reviews of NWW, Baby Dee, Julia Kent & ‘Wild Tigers I Have Known’ soundtrack CD on Dark Entries
These reviews are listed under October 2007: www.darkentries.be/index.php?nav=cds Beautiful and mysterious records by Tommy Roundtree and Arian Sample
I was recently sent two records from an address in Chicago, in plain brown sleeves with the artist's name stamped using a rubber stamp, one by Tommy Roundtree called ‘Jungle Blood’ and the other by Arian Sample which appears to be untitled. There was no letter with the package and no return address. I was especially curious by the use of the word ‘Arian’, which refers to the teachings of the great Egyptian Christian thinker Arius (AD c.250/256–336)—now regarded as heretical by mainstream Christian thought—and the huge ChristologicaI debate he initiated on whether Christ was eternally co-existent with the Father, summed up in the phrase “There was a time when He was not”. This is an element of Christian theology which has always particularly fascinated me: the relation of the Father and the Son, and how it bears on the Crucifixion: what exactly was the nature of the Christ Who died on the Cross? This relates directly to Patripassianism. Anyway, I digress. Both records are very haunting and moving, reminding me of Simon Finn's ‘Pass the Distance’ and a couple of other beautiful and obscure albums which usually get lazily classified as ‘loner folk’. I haven't been able to find anything out about them at all from the internet or from record collectors. But thank you to whoever sent them. I was touched and intrigued. What I have loved and am loving recently

<IMG height=99 width=100> We are delighted to announce a new release on Durtro Jnana by the wonderful Sharron Kraus. Sharron has a gift for bringing us beautiful and heartbreaking songs from a deep-seated tradition of storytelling and mythology and this album is no exception. All songs are original bar one. Sharron Kraus is a singer/musician/songwriter who creates music rooted in the folk traditions of England and Appalachia. Her work is characterised by soil-rich vocals, haunting banjo, fine acoustic guitar and visionary wordcraft. Her songs are populated by a carnival array of fatally charismatic characters, telling tales of enslavement, perversion, incest, obsession, love and death. Sharron's live performances are stark, compelling and delicate. As with her music, her performance continues the tradition of the balladeer. She has been featured in Folk Sounds, Arthur Magazine, Ptolemaic Terrascope and Broken Face. She has been interviewed on BBC Radio 3 and recorded sessions for BBC Radio Scotland, Freakzone on Radio 6, and independent radio stations across the US. Her fanbase includes veteran folk artists Shirley Collins and Archie Fisher as well as Michael Gira, David Tibet and Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore. The official release date is 10 March 2008, but it will be available from Durtro and Jnana from 18 December. £11 plus postage and packing and VAT where applicable. The music describes tides—from the summer breeze through barley, to the shimmering stretch of a vast ocean extending to the shifting birth pangs of stars. Much of the music was recorded at outdoor locations—such as the barley fields of the Clun forest—and is performed on acoustic instruments. FBF is baroque oboeist Mark Baigent, composer Richard Moult, dulcimer player John Letcher, the Canadian flautist Amanda Votta, Shropshire poet Bryony Lees, guitarist Ian Tengwall and Andy Cotterill on electronics. Far Black Furlong: ‘Haidd’ There is a special edition (150 copies) of ‘Far Black Furlong’ which comes with an additional CDR, ‘Haidd’—a beautiful 34 minute remix/reworking of their previous album. A beautiful and sinister version of this song by C93, from their ‘Sleep Has His House’ album, has been covered by Skitliv, the group fronted by ex-Mayhem singer Maniac. It can be listened to on David Tibet's MySpace at www.myspace.com/davidtibet Maja Elliot and Marc Henri Lamande live in Paris Thursday 27 December Maja Elliott appears in performance with Marc Henri Lamande on 27 December. I have to say this is one of the most mesmerising records I have heard for many years, a monumental, and monumentally sad, epic. It is the first album I have ever heard by them. I played it eight times in two days, and then on the train to London—and then on the train back from London. REALLY remarkable. www.jester-records.com/ulver www.myspace.com/ulver1 Then the next day KatieJane Garside, of Queen Adreena and Daisy Chainsaw, sent me ‘The Ventriloquist’, the new album by her project Ruby Throat. This is absolutely and beautifully hypnotic—for me her most thrilling and touching work to date, in a career which has produced already many works of great power and beauty. It is limited to 500 copies so it may be already sold out. www.katiejanegarside.com www.rubythroat.co.uk Six Organs of Admittance's new album ‘Shelter from the Ash’ is as stunning and unpredictable and gorgeous as I expected it would be. Ben Chasny is a genius. What else can I say? I also recently finished reading Michel Faber's ‘The Crimson Petal and the White’ which is, quite simply, one of he most enthralling books I have ever read. I couldn't put it down. No matter how good anyone tells you this book is (including myself)—it is even better than they are telling you. And, long though the book is, I wished it could just have kept on for much longer. I then read a novella by him, ‘The Courage Consor’, which was masterful and haunting. Coptically, I am currently reading the Coptic edition of the Nag Hammadi text, ‘The Gospel of the Egyptians’, also known as ‘The Holy Book of the Great Invisible Spirit’, which can be found, excellently edited by Alexander Böhlig and Frederik Wisse, in Volume 2 of the 5-volume Brill edition of ‘The Coptic Gnostic Library’, as well as in an English translation in Bentley Layton's superlative ‘The Gnostic Scriptures’ (Doubleday). Love and peace to you all, David+++ |

We hope to add these to the Durtro and Jnana shops in late February. They will also be available from Andrew Liles at www.andrewliles.com.

I'd read in one place that Marc Almond was going to be appearing at the London show, but thought that whoever wrote it was misinformed. This is very exciting news!
