First weekend was really, really great!
 Sunn O))) played in a church (Minoritenkirche Klangraum Krems) , i mean, yeah, Sunn O))) played in a church. How fucking cool is that? That gig was so good i can“t even tell you how ace they were, in a church.  NWW were amazing too. In my opinion they should have played a little louder but i guess that`s just me. Mr.Tibet joined their set for some time, that was also interesting.  Current 93 put on a very beautiful and intense show, i was really tired when they played but it was still fucking great.  On Thursday we came a little late so we missed a part of Fennesz“s set. Don“t know what to say, hm...,he was great and i really enjoyed it. I suck in describing music..... -Simon Finn was awesome (he played a fantastic version of JERUSALEM) -Julia Kent was awesome -I didn“t really like Cyclobe (love Coil, though) -Addictive TV was great fun and nice to dance to -Om suprised me positively -The Notwist were pretty boring -Little Annie was funny and interesting -Matmos were OK -Didn“t really enjoy Larsen Unfortunately i missed Six Organs of Addmitance. But a friend of mine told me he (Ben Chasney) was pretty drunk and they only played for about 20 minutes. |
Oh yeah, and i won 15€ donated by Will Oldham.

I was recently sent this novel, and I loved it so much that I wanted to recommend it to everyone. It is difficult to summarise, as it takes in so many areas--including St. Hildegard of Bingen. But it is funny, tragic, profound and beautiful. People familiar with C93's 'Thunder Perfect Mind' will perhaps recognise the title of the book, which comes from the medięval mystical Christian treatise by St. Julian of Norwich, 'Revelations of Divine Love'. I have read this book twice in two weeks--please obtain it! I also greatly enjoyed the autobiography of an ex-member of Korn, "Save Me From Myself" by Brian "Head" Korn. I find myself meeting more people from my past as I get older. Someone I re-encountered recently, thanks to David Cotner, was one of the first friends I made in London, Scarlett Cannon, who was married to Ross Cannon. Scarlett worked in fashion, but was primarily renowned for running nightclubs and being a London icon. Her face was often on the front of ID magazine, and she appeared in many Culture Club videos, as well as working with Andrew Logan on the Alternative Miss World show. Ross worked at Produktion Hair in London, with Paul Hurst and Christine Glover. Their salon, which had been named by Scarlett, was a remarkable avant-garde hairdressers in London's Kensington Market, where one could buy Whitehouse records. I credited Produktion with being responsible for the haircuts for C93 on NATURE UNVEILED, though of course there were neither photos of the group nor their hair visible on the album sleeve. I moved in with Scarlett and Ross to their squat in Earl's Court, where the previous tenant had committed suicide by burning herself alive, after scrawling "DED WOMAN DED WOMAN DED WOMAN DED" on the walls in lipstick. My mattress was over the hole the unfortunate woman had created with the flames of her self-immolation. The flat was haunted. Forwarding 23 years to last week, I again met Scarlett, as beautiful and fascinating as ever. She is now a highly qualified and highly experienced Reiki practitioner. We spoke for a long time about what we had done and where we had been and what we had become. She is a remarkable woman, and a profound soul. I have been approached by the director of a new art gallery in central London to hold my first solo exhibition of new artwork and installations, and their accompanying voices, in October/November 2008. And now on to events leading up to October/November 2008: David Tibet curates a one day special event at the Roadburn festival in the Netherlands on 20 April 2008 I am proud and delighted to confirm that I have been invited by the wonderful Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, the Netherlands to curate a special day long event on 20 April 2008. Tickets should be going on sale on 1 December, 2007, and cost €32.50 (approximately £23) for the day which I am curating. Current 93 will be performing as well as some special guests that I have invited to accompany us. I can confirm that the majestic OM will be appearing, and that I am presently discussing the appearance of three or so more of my favourite artists. Roadburn is perhaps the pre-eminent festival of doom, stoner, psychedelacidic and othercoloured metal, and I am very touched and happy to have been invited by Walter to bring some of those artists whom I love to a festival whose work I have long admired, and which has featured so many bands in the past of whom I am a fan. C93 as myself and Andrew Liles were asked by Maniac if we could create a collage-mix of C93 material as the introductory music to their live shows, and if we would also create a brief collage introduction to their forthcoming mini-CD, as mentioned below. We were delighted to and honoured to do so. I really admire Maniac and I love Skitliv's work.

And long last this book is underway, with all technical problems solved. We have been informed we will be receiving copies before Christmas. We were also told by the technical department that the head- and tail-bands that were listed as being part of the book's specifications were technically possible but would be ęsthetically displeasing due to the gilt page-edging and the size of the book so we have cancelled that feature of the book; our apologies for this minor adjustment. Thank to all of you for your patience. Once the book is in stock, all pre-ordered copies will be sent out. I was recently sent two records from an address in Chicago, in plain brown sleeves with the artist's name stamped using a rubber stamp, one by Tommy Roundtree called ‘Jungle Blood’ and the other by Arian Sample which appears to be untitled. There was no letter with the package and no return address. I was especially curious by the use of the word ‘Arian’, which refers to the teachings of the great Egyptian Christian thinker Arius (AD c.250/256–336)—now regarded as heretical by mainstream Christian thought—and the huge ChristologicaI debate he initiated on whether Christ was eternally co-existent with the Father, summed up in the phrase “There was a time when He was not”. This is an element of Christian theology which has always particularly fascinated me: the relation of the Father and the Son, and how it bears on the Crucifixion: what exactly was the nature of the Christ Who died on the Cross? This relates directly to Patripassianism. Anyway, I digress. Both records are very haunting and moving, reminding me of Simon Finn's ‘Pass the Distance’ and a couple of other beautiful and obscure albums which usually get lazily classified as ‘loner folk’. I haven't been able to find anything out about them at all from the internet or from record collectors. But thank you to whoever sent them. I was touched and intrigued. Sharron has a gift for bringing us beautiful and heartbreaking songs from a deep-seated tradition of storytelling and mythology and this album is no exception. All songs are original bar one. Sharron Kraus is a singer/musician/songwriter who creates music rooted in the folk traditions of England and Appalachia. Her work is characterised by soil-rich vocals, haunting banjo, fine acoustic guitar and visionary wordcraft. Her songs are populated by a carnival array of fatally charismatic characters, telling tales of enslavement, perversion, incest, obsession, love and death. Sharron's live performances are stark, compelling and delicate. As with her music, her performance continues the tradition of the balladeer. She has been featured in Folk Sounds, Arthur Magazine, Ptolemaic Terrascope and Broken Face. She has been interviewed on BBC Radio 3 and recorded sessions for BBC Radio Scotland, Freakzone on Radio 6, and independent radio stations across the US. Her fanbase includes veteran folk artists Shirley Collins and Archie Fisher as well as Michael Gira, David Tibet and Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore. The music describes tides—from the summer breeze through barley, to the shimmering stretch of a vast ocean extending to the shifting birth pangs of stars. Much of the music was recorded at outdoor locations—such as the barley fields of the Clun forest—and is performed on acoustic instruments. FBF is baroque oboeist Mark Baigent, composer Richard Moult, dulcimer player John Letcher, the Canadian flautist Amanda Votta, Shropshire poet Bryony Lees, guitarist Ian Tengwall and Andy Cotterill on electronics. Far Black Furlong: ‘Haidd’ There is a special edition (150 copies) of ‘Far Black Furlong’ which comes with an additional CDR, ‘Haidd’—a beautiful 34 minute remix/reworking of their previous album. Ben Chasny is a genius. What else can I say? I also recently finished reading Michel Faber's ‘The Crimson Petal and the White’ which is, quite simply, one of he most enthralling books I have ever read. I couldn't put it down. No matter how good anyone tells you this book is (including myself)—it is even better than they are telling you. And, long though the book is, I wished it could just have kept on for much longer. I then read a novella by him, ‘The Courage Consor’, which was masterful and haunting. Coptically, I am currently reading the Coptic edition of the Nag Hammadi text, ‘The Gospel of the Egyptians’, also known as ‘The Holy Book of the Great Invisible Spirit’, which can be found, excellently edited by Alexander Böhlig and Frederik Wisse, in Volume 2 of the 5-volume Brill edition of ‘The Coptic Gnostic Library’, as well as in an English translation in Bentley Layton's superlative ‘The Gnostic Scriptures’ (Doubleday). Current 93: April 2008 European shows with Ęthenor, Baby Dee, Rickie Lee Jones, Om and Skitliv Current 93 are delighted to announce a small series of European shows in a build-up to the release of their new album ‘Anok Pe: Aleph At Hallucinatory Mountain’. Also appearing with Current 93 will be some of the artists I love the most, and whose presence on our short outing honours me greatly. The second night of the shows in Moscow and Berlin—those of 12 and 14 April, respectively, will feature Current 93 performing material from their early Birth-Canal Blues albums, NATURE UNVEILED and DOGS BLOOD RISING. We wish to give a big thank you to those who have already supported the recording of ‘ALEPH AT HALLUCINATORY MOUNTAIN’. We have had quite a number of enquiries, so we wish to clarify that this subscription edition is for the album on CD only and not for the album on vinyl. The vinyl edition will be released some time after the release of the album on CD, just as with ‘Black Ships Ate the Sky’. ‘Nature Unveiled’ and ‘Dogs Blood Rising’ remastered with bonus CD containing Andrew Liles’ remixes of the entire albums
The next two reissues from Durtro Jnana will be the seminal two first albums by C93, NATURE UNVEILED and DOGS BLOOD RISING. The first 1000 copies of the CDs will come with a bonus CD consisting of Andrew Liles’ radical and beautiful remixes of each album.
