http://brainwashed.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5749&Ite mid=90 The Bark Haze LP & CD Written by Important Records Thursday, 30 November 2006 artist: The Bark Haze title:untitled catalog #: IMPREC128 format: lpupc: 793447512822 release date: Feb 27, 2007 This limited edition lp was pressed in an edition of 500 with letterpressed covers done by Manifesto. These are completely different recordings than the Bark Haze compact disc also on Important Records. The Bark Haze is primarily a guitar duo of GOWN (nom de plume of one Andrew Macgregor) and Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth etfuckingcetera). Auxiliary members have been know to include Pete Nolan (Magik Markers, Virgin Eye Blood Brothers, Cops et al). Their name came from a mis-hearing of the radical early 70s R+B group the Bar-Kays and from that moment the concept of mis-hearing and allegiance to presenting the mis-hearing as some open-ended musical course became The Bark Haze's identity. So far all concerts have taken place in Western Massachusetts and once in the confines of Cambridge, MA's Twisted Village record emporium. They anxiously await their debut gig in the UK at the Nightmare Before Christmas event curated by Moore. As the heroic and potentially bonkers Carpenters refrained We've Only Just Begun. Damn straight. ![]() artist: The Bark Haze title:untitled catalog #: IMPREC127 format: cd release date: Feb 27, 2007 This exclusive CD release is entirely different from the LP release on Important which is also untitled. man sonic youth 2007 is going to be so fun
|
I heard some whispers about a Thurston Moore, Wally Shoup, Paul Flaherty, Chris Corsano release of a live recording from 2002. Might be out later this year or early 2008.
|
Another book to add to the list - this taken from "publishers weekly" website:
"Da Capo bought world rights to Entertainment Weekly music critic David Browne's Goodbye 20th Century: Sonic Youth and the Rise of the Alternative Nation, an authorized biography of this influential band; pub date is September 2007" ISBN: 030681515X The author has also written a book about Tim Buckley and Jeff Buckley ("Dream Brother"), which seems to have received plenty of praise on both the UK and US versions of Amazon. Hopefully his SY book will be similarly praiseworthy. |
Thanks sonicl. this one seems the most interesting book out of the 3 coming.
|
See Thurston is doing the musical score do the dvd you get with the new Richard Kern,er..'art' book published by taschen i believe.
|
thanks for info.
seems to be more comming, huh? |
I'll buy pretty much anything Sonic, but I draw the line at buying porn just for the sake of a Thurston soundtrack.
|
Quote:
I'll bet you buy porn if you can hum the soundtarck :) |
You don't hum along to porn soundtracks, you grunt, pant and groan. :p
|
Quote:
Looking forward to this. |
Quote:
And will they credit him as Thruston Moore? :D |
Quote:
Haha, I was thinking something similar. "But it's for the music...! You know, like some people buy Penthouse for the interviews." |
It doesn't help that Richard Kern's porn is just so... wierd. There's nothing aesthetically pleasing about it.
|
Richards work isn't always about porn.

It's a photo from his short film "Fingered", but I know what you mean.
The makeup or stare maybe? ![]() (Edit) Louise Brooks |
some samples of the upcoming book which will include the DVD with Thurston soundtrack:

Is there something wrong with soft porn?

Didn't you just read what I said? It's not porn, it's art. I bet you never read the interviews in the Penthouse either. |

Maybe it's just me, but the yeah yeah sounded sarcastic. Art? Art would be pushing it a little to far, don't you think? :) I like his earlier work much more. Ps: Sorry Sonicl Back to the topic. |
your sarcasm detector appears to be working fine... no need for repairs or maintenance.

If you want a taste from David Browne's (author of Goodbye 20th Century: Sonic Youth and the Rise of the Alternative Nation) writing about Sonic Youth click hear:

hahaha:
"''Oh, I totally remember that,'' Moore says, who at 44 still looks as if he never needs to shave. " |

Thanks a lot for that Moshe! |
''Well, the songs didn't stop on a dime,'' Shelley cracks, ''but they did stop.''
"Steve Shelley must post something on the board before you can rep him" ;) Going on the article that Moshe linked to, I'm looking forward to David Browne's book far more than either of the other two. |
cheers for the link moshe!
|
I'll bet this is going to feature SY memebers too:
RHYS CHATHAM-(w. the Guitar Trio All-Stars)-"Guitar Trio Is My Life" CD TOE-CD-808 (Radium) |
Quote:
|
This cd will be made out the best performances from the tour. Considering the fact that Chatham is kind of a NY "hero" (a no wave "godfather"), I don't see how they could leave the NYC show out of it even if it sucks...
If TOE wants to sell any copies they better include the NYC show :) |
forgot about this one:
coming soon: dba069 - Thrash Sabbatical . Thurston Moore / Men Who Can't Love / Barrabarracuda / Kevin Shields . 4way split 12" + 2x7" |
Text of Light/MCIAA split cd shoud be out soon on A Silent Place records.
|
Quote:
yes? want this one definitelly. |
We didn't see this one coming:
Graham Moore/Thurston Moore split LP out soon February 13, 2007 "Graham Moore/Thurston Moore split LP Head honcho of the splendid Blossoming Noise label (and latest addition to To Live & Shave in LA) teams up with head honcho of the venerable Ecstatic Peace label (also of the band Sonic Youth) for an all out noise attack!" Pro-pressed covers, 140 gram marbled color vinyl in an edition of 500 copies are available for preorder on the Nihilist Records website. |
Has anyone heard Flipped Out Bride yet? Is it worth getting, or is it self-indulgent crap?
