Bernie is only 60 or so delegates behind, right? Has the media gone overboard with Joe's "success"? Isn't Trump on tape saying he fears Bernie the most? I don't buy this notion that Bernie as the nominee = another 4 years of numbnuts. I fear that Joe as the nominee could mean that.

anyway... there was an article i linked here 2 days ago with a journo's prediction that the media was going to overrate biden. not because "conspiracy" but because geography favored early release of his strongest states while his weakest would trickle down over days.

nevertheless, he's beaten expectations. and warren didn't meet them, hence her announcement.

as for risk: any of the candidates could mean another 4 years of the beast. they all have their weaknesses, one way or another, and they appeal to different sectors of the electorate and not to everyone. the issue is which sector is larger.

i agree with your previous post that bernie makes a better presentation, but the outrage you mention, which i find at times appealing, is a huge turnoff for suburban moderates. i'm not a suburban moderate, i'm just telling you they exist in very large numbers and vote reliably.

and in a country like this one, going after "the billionaires the billionaires the billionaires" doesn't quite fly. this culture makes icons out of billionaires. you can only run so far on resentment against the rich. resentment here works better when it's targeted towards poor people and minorities, which is trump's playbook.

anyway, add to this that now we know bernie has failed to turn out the youth vote, and it adds up to a large risk for his potential candidacy. i bought for a moment the argument of greater turnout making him viable, and while he does show decent cross-demographic appeal, the turnout didn't materialize, and his own campaign has recognized that.

i'm supporting wholeheartedly whoever wins the nomination. however, it's a bit of a tightrope walk no matter who gets it.
